The Mindscape of Alan Moore (Interview/video)

This is a fairly awesome interview with Alan Moore. You may recognize him as the writer of The Watchmen and V for Vendetta, etc. Hope this hasn't been posted already!

He discusses his origins, writing, mentality, entrance into celebrity-hood, sex, the Self, mysticism, etc. As an aspiring comic book artist I found this to be a good watch, but I think it has an application to anyone. DEEP.

Rather long video. Mind the ads if you watch it. brrrrr. If anyone has seen an ad-free source go ahead and post it

I'm actually not a fan of Allan Moores comics, but I appreciate what he did for the industry. He's a great writer, but his panel layouts give me a head ache. There's usually more dialogue bubble than image in his average panel and a dozen panels on each page. I actually say this a few years ago at Comic Con. He has one hell of a head on his shoulders.

yeh I often find him tiring too, especially in From Hell. Although, there was a whole complicated logic beneath the layouts in Watchmen, symmetry, repetition and so on, which is interresting if you notice it.

Exception is V for Vendetta. That Novel is so perfect I have no idea how it could be consieved. The guy could write only that, and he'd be a legend, let alone the rest of the stuff he wrote!

Dream I've had that will probably never come true: A Comic/Graphic Novel co-created by Alan Moore and Moebius. Their combined esoteric/metaphysical sensibilities would be pretty interesting, I think. Or maybe not. But, it's fun to dream.

PS: The "hairy" tag cracked me up.
"Contrary to the belief of the layman, the essential of art is not to imitate nature, but under the guise of imitation to stir up excitement with pure plastic elements: measurements, directions, ornaments, lights, values, colors, substances, divided and organized according to the injunctions of natural laws. While so occupied, the artist never ceases to be subservient to nature, but instead of imitating the incidents in a paltry way, he imitates the laws."-Andre Lhote
