    Anatomy studies

I've been studying anatomy from a book I bought, Anatomy for the Artist by Sarah Simblet. It's a very detailed anatomy book if you're looking for one, with loads of very good reference pictures.

    Charcoal

Here's one more charcoal drawing. I'm not gonna lie, I couldn't resist using liquify to fix some details.

    Hello! Welcome to the forums
I see you're studying as well as doing imaginative work so I don't really have much to say.
Obviously there's problems to point out but I can see that you're already attacking the problems.

So it's all good! Just keep studying a lot every day. Make it a habit and you won't mind it at all.

    Ty

I'd like to thank you all for the encouraging comments, greatly appreciated .
Here are some illustrations I've made a while ago (had uploaded them to WIP section), I know there is quite a few things to be pointed out and plenty of stuff to correct, but I just thought I'd post them to compare for progress later on. I am actually quite new to coloring and painting. These were my first (done digitally), and no painting done traditionally so far. Waiting on my courses to begin for that, don't wanna mess up the materials .
Also, I prefer working on new pieces instead of always going back to correct at this point, not only because it's more fun, but also because there will always be stuff to correct at my current level.
The one with the girl was actually a photo that I redrew (changed it a bit) and painted.

Here goes (from oldest to newest)

I've been having really bad back problems every time I sit to draw which gave me no choice but to take a 2 day break without drawing anything. Thing is, when I draw on the easel my back hurts (Somewhere around my right trapezius) and when I draw on the tablet my neck hurts. I've recenlty come up with a solution which is to take a 5 minute break every 30-40 minutes and do a bit of stretching, but still.. If anyone has any advice on that, it'd be awesome .

Anyway, here are my newest studies. The latter one is charcoal (which I took up recently and am trying to learn). I think I'm not doing a bad job with it so far. Gonna try pastel soon.

I've decided to train a bit more today in digital painting, even though I haven't got a clue about colors till now.
Waiting on the classes to start to learn more about painting. Here's what I got, on that sketch I 'd previously done. I'm also posting these in the critique forums, hoping to get some advice.

I think there's a whole lot of improvement on this one, and this solely by following the advice of people posting on my W.I.P. forum thread. Conceptart.org for the win.

And here's my latest and last digital illustration, for one month at least. I'm planning to take on traditional painting and drawing for now, as to prepare myself for my foundation classes.

Your portraits show great improvement. Good job on that last one!

Given what you have shown us here, I would say that you should lay off on doing colour right now and focus on getting your underlying values right. Your last piece says a lot. There aren't enough midtone variation, and in the parts where you decided to go lighter or darker, you went too far and made them either too light or too dark (for instance, the shadow underneath his left eye). Also, you perspective is off, but I won't say too much about that since you've already gotten feedback on that aspect of this piece. The red is WAY too saturated and brings a lot of unnecessary attention to itself. The way you lit the figure is confusing. Where is the light source coming from? It's seems to be coming mostly from the back, but, if that's the case, then why is his forearm and face lit so well? You see what I mean? Your lighting doesn't really make sense.

In terms of composition, I think the piece is not bad. It's mostly symmetrical but you've added a few elements in there that throw the symmetry off just a tad bit, which I think is a nice touch. The colour palette is not bad, though it is pretty rudimentary. Like I mentioned before, I don't think you should dive into colour just yet.

All in all, I admire your boldness but I think you're getting ahead of yourself with this last piece. For now, I'd say you should focus on anatomy studies, value studies, drawing from life, and just doing imaginative sketches/doodles when you're not doing your studies. Also, doing master copies (colour or black/white) will help you improve as an artist tremendously.

    Hope this helps
    Onwards and upwards my friend!

Mr. Pryminista, thanks a lot for your taking the time to post this. You bring great advice and encouragement . I will lay off the colors for awhile and work more on my values and my drawings, master studies etc.. The thing is that while I know I need to learn more about composition, color, light and form, perspective, and whatever else I just get too excited sometimes looking at the great pieces here on CA and want to try for myself. I guess I'll need to contain myself from now on, for a little while at least.

Cool. You seem to be really good at drawing armor, which is something I fail at. Keep up the good work.
