Some tries at painting in Photoshop

Some sketches and 30 sec to one min drawings. More like scribbles then drawings 30 sec ones = total fail T.T some not ref others are using pixelovey and stock

I don't want to be rude but ... forget about the color pencils... And do more of the drawings like the second one and.... about the first one with photoshop - find the brush presets and play with them. Find a color tutorials because you don't use the colors and the shading well. But It is just a matter of time

Awwe but i like color pencils... Plus i bought a bunch of bristal board because it was on sale I will try messing around with the brushes and with color i know im pretty horrible at digital painting right now =(

Anyway another digital painting Its a tuskar and some human muscle stuff from the lessons Jason is giving. I noticed my proportion looks absolutely terrible even worse then my normal humans... probably because i never give them muscle XD

Actually, DON'T forget the coloured pencils. Coloured pencils are a great medium and can teach you a lot (even the cheap ones you get for school). See if you can pick up a book on coloured pencil drawing (from the library if you don't want to buy one).

One thing you have to remember about coloured pencils is that they're really not all that great for doing solid colour. The grain of the paper tends to show through unless you press really hard and if you press really hard you saturate the paper with colour and then you can't layer the pencils well. It usually works better to slowly build up colour in multiple layers and not mind the paper grain too much. If you want solid colour there's always paint.

The peanut butter jar is a good start. Set something like that up and see what you can do with your coloured pencils. You likely won't have all the colours you want (not like in Photoshop) but that's actually really good because it'll force you to think about what colours you can layer together to get the colours you see or how you can change things around. It'll get you thinking outside the "red label is red, jar is brown" box.

And don't stop doing the ATCs or cartoons either, if you can't draw something really fun and fluffy once in a while then why do art at all?

Some digital stuff, the first 3 started out with black and white and greys and i used multiply and color layers but I think the colors look kinda dull when i do that but i see other people start greys and then color. Do you know any tutorials on how to get from greys to colors and picking the right colors so it doesnt turn dullish?

The last two i didnt do black and white just color on sketch.

Great sense of form with the pencil studies. I especially like how well you did the snakes. I cant do snakes for the life of me.

Your animals are very expressive with their own personality. The studies have been coming along well, too.

With that said, I think you should be more careful with your lines. Right now it looks like you are "petting" them. The various sketches you did of the cats and such are much cleaner. I can read them better, if that makes sense. Just try to develop more confidence in your line work and make sure they all have a purpose.

Post up the color pencil work when you're done! Keep drawing.

You have some really cute animals in here. If you want cleaner lines then maybe you could try a harder pencil for that. I noticed that using 3b or 5b is good for shadowing but not so much for putting down clean sketches. When geo advised me to use 2h i really saw a big difference. Also its important to sharpen your pencil a lot to get cleaner lines, if you use a soft pencil you will need to sharpen a lot more.

Hey, i wanted to suggest to you the gesture tool from pixellovely you can choose all kinds of animals also.

keep up the work. and yeah you are totally right about me drawing too light.
i think its just some fear of putting down lines that you cant remove afterwards. This and the fact that i use a 2h pencil.

Your cartooning in those animals is so awesome. They really catch that lively, Disney-in-a-good-way vibe. Bring back the coloured pencils! They're a great medium for colour practise, as long as you blend them together, use strokes of complimentary colours etc.

You're on a good track, get in plenty of practise. That portrait of the dog in post #22 is lovely.

First I want to say I love your avatar pic! And yes like others have said, your animals are looking really good. The people can use more work, but that just takes practice, just keep studying from Loomis, etc, photo refs and the like and it'll come
Not sure if anyone responded about turning a grayscale to a color image, but add the color to another layer and play around with the different layer types, mainly color, overlay, softlight, then you might want to duplicate them too if needed to double the effect. It really just takes a lot of playing around to get it right. Then when you do get it how you like it, you might want to flatten some of the layers and paint over it with color to boost it more. So that's it in brief... I'm sure there are tutorials around I just do'nt know any off hand.

i really like some of your cartoons, there kewl. i would recomend studying anatomy for awile - like bridgeman or loomis....that can really help with your drawing. but of course do the cartoons so u dont get bored!! i know i do it all the time, art has to be fun in the end. or it aint worth it. good luck mate! i think u shud level up to lvl 2. =p

I see that you are very much like to draw animals
and that is just great. I do not have anything to
criticize, you are doing fine, you just keep up this
pace that you are doing. For an advice, I would say
for you to draw maybe more human figures, but that
is just a suggestion, not a must of course. Take care
