nice work on Alice ....just don't make mistake with light source and it will be awesome
Mmmh I would suggest that you maybe make a second version of alice! Yeah a second! And in this you just through in the craziest shadows and colors you can think of, a lot on different layers =). Could be fun maybe XD.
I can do so little in so much time!

You feel frustrated and don't know where to turn this frustration on? No problem here is your salvation!
Just critique me in my critique thread and let it all out, please *bow*!
Ooo your alice is really coming out quite awesome! Really anticipating how this will look when you finish it lol. But if I had to say anything I would agree with Sivonja and the light source, but I'm sure you're going to get a handle on it.
Oh and as also a person with astigmatism, lol I also feel your pain. ^^: Every morning I have to deal with seeing things a little cross-eyes with my contacts for a good hour or so. Also, trogdor

qlotzan: Thanks! It's helping me to stay motivated with the piece. Keeps me responsible for it
Sivonja:Yeah, it's pretty strong as is, I need to commit to a source!
Klaus Reinbach III: You mean a second version of the same image? That sounds fun
Pervy: Thanks so much! It's fun to do a beloved character once in a while. Kind of takes the pressure off from starting from scratch. And it's a relief that at least someone experiences the effects of astigmatism! I was starting to feel alone

Another 20 min warmup, I'm trying to wake up early (omg it's reeeeally a struggle for me) to do these every day.

You are working hardly, I see my dear darling,
and you are posting with a rapid pace.
Rabid, rabid artist you are, I can see, you are
just making me to start a fire in my living room
in an instant moment. Huh, hardly can extinguish
my fierce desires.
Go moooooooore daaaarker with Alice.
Her sexiness is unbeatable, but you just put her
in a more darker and more mystique environment.
Will catch you later...
I want to get up early eighter! XD alice is looking great, but here face is passionless.
Hey there,
Ahh ...Alice is looking lovely. You're doing a great job here.
few suggestions; That green background is too bright i guess.Shadow casted from her arms are too thin. Also, since shes inside a small space im guessing a little amount of light is coming in. so dont you think it should be more dark inside?. increase the contrast between shadows/light. you can push the highlights more when this kind of a scenario is considered. (especially if its a single light source)
Keep it up mate. Time to do more imagination stuff i guess. just like the 'Ice princess' piece.

Hahahah! Everyone is loving Alice. This might be one of the best incentives to stick to it, and finish the work! It'll be great to see it once it's finished! Keep it up!

Hey everyone! Thanks as always for all of the support!Oh and, this represents the last post of Christmas break. School is back in! I have no idea what kind of time I'm gonna have now...
LtPlissken: A fire in your living room? I hope that's from the furious drawing that you are doing! And darker on Alice? More shadows you mean, or less luminosity in the colors? Off I go!
Ramalooke: Yeah, she does look a bit vague, but then, she was always kind of a ditz in the story hahaha! I'm afraid to mess up the face though, I tried a few different, more extreme expressions and felt that I was pushing it into a less attractive realm.
devastacio: More shadows! I agree. I toyed with the green walls for a while, and I think they're still too saturated. I'll mess with that
teapo: Thanks friend! And yes it is. *yawn* but I remind myself that it's for the sake of my future!
whisper_wm: I know! I'm really excited that so many people enjoy her, it's fun. I just hope I can resolve the picture
...
Another warmup, with a ceramic milk pitcher. This one makes me want to puke, and or kill myself, and or puke and kill myself by drowning in said puke.
I reeeally suck at digital stuff.

it's all coming along well ^^ i especially like that ink stopper
for the milk jug it might help to use a bigger brush- try using the biggest brush you can for each location
how long did you spend on the still life? looks like a good start but implies it was rushed D:

Thanks for passing by my sketchbook again =D
I agree with FootstepsBeckon about the last still life
I like your Alice ^^
I agree with the 2 above, really look at your object or photo and try to break down what kind of surfaces and edges you are seeing. The gradient from dark to light inside the jug, I would assume was a smooth transition - so use a large soft brush with low flow, just as quick and so much more effective.
Hello again! Loving that picture of Alice
No crits from me, just keep up the good work mate!
vices: Thank you! I keep avoiding the bigger brush...I've gotta figure out a way to get comfortable with itThanks for prodding me
FootstepsBeckon: Yeah, it is rushed. I give myself 20 minutes, and I spend 15 minutes stressing over the shape, then realize I have 5 minutes left and try to do it in a hurry. It's frustrating because it should take me 2 minutes at most to get the form. 20 minutes is way more than enough time to do a decent still life! But hey, that's why I'm pushing myself to do this.
Gof: I agree with him alsoAnd thanks!
monstertree: Yeah, I need to slow down. Actually the shadow was as hard as it is in the drawing, I had a strong lightsource.
Naidy: Thank you, dear! I will keep working hard

So, in the spirit of the new semester, and a couple of classes that are going to broaden my horizons as an artist (one of them being "Sketchbook", so I will always have something to update with, yay!), I pose a question unto you, worthy friends:
What is an installation?
We had quite the discussion over it (in my installation course, of course). Very difficult to place into a category, or to describe.
What we determined is that an installation:
-interacts with the space it is in
-and by that space, its meaning is activated
-it is a bodily, visceral interaction with the viewer, but interactivity is moot, as every form of art is an interactive experience
-intent plays a strong role
-as it is a temporary art form, it is nearly always driven by a contemporary social stance
I expect that many of these rules are to be questioned and broken.
What is installation?
It is mind boggling to me. And yet, in the contemporary art world, the rise of installation is at the forefront. What is it? How do we as artists harness its power?
Is this at all relevant to you all? Do you care? Do you want me to avoid talking about my art education in this sketchbook?
I want to figure this stuff out. It's kind of an obsession that I can't quiet my mind over.
If it's okay with you all, I think I might pose discussions like this as I go through school...Along with drawings, of course.
Sorry for the imageless post, it will come later today, after I do my readings (about what the heck installation is)
Oh and, if you have any artists you want to recommend that do installation, please fire away! I think we can all benefit from this.
THANKS FOR READING, IF YOU HAVE! You are awesome.![]()

Hello Kiwi.
Now I know that Kiwis are flightless birds endemic to New Zealand,
thanks to you. You are gorgeous, just as your art is. You are gorgeous
and your drawings and paintings are like gold and diamonds, and I am so
honored for having the privilege to look at them. Thank you very much.
I mean both. And darker on Alice? More shadows you mean, or less luminosity in the colors?
That one made me laugh, cause I was instantly thinking that someoneAnother warmup, with a ceramic milk pitcher. This one makes me want to puke
is puking in that ceramic milk pitcher that you painted.
That would be so interesting to paint.
I am so happy to hear that my dear friend, I will be here to followSo, in the spirit of the new semester, and a couple of classes that are going to broaden my horizons as an artist (one of them being "Sketchbook", so I will always have something to update with, yay!)
your work all the time.
I am sorry, but that is just too heavy question for me, I amI pose a question unto you, worthy friends:
What is an installation?
just a poor farmer, living out of fishing and milking cows.
I can tell you a lot about dairy products, and how can you
grow pigeons on the attic without your eyes being poked out,
or how can you make a dead body to disappear, and never to be found,
but I do not know nothing about the installation.
This visceral interaction word combination made my mind instantly
to drown in harsh pain, and I am so confused now. My eyes are red.
Hope that you will find the answer to your question, I will be visiting
again pretty soon. Thank you for sharing your great masterpieces with us.
LtPlissken: hee hee! You are such a wonderful person, you make me blush! That puke pitcher...It's perhaps a bit too small to accomodate for the amount of expulsion that I felt was necessary. However, I like the idea haha! (psst, can I have a pigeon?) For the record, I believe the answer to my question is, there is no answer! Installation is all about the contemporary flux of ideas, and therefore impossible to categorize. So, in essence, the sky's the limit!
I shall continue to follow you closely as well!
...
I apologize in advance, these are photos, not scans...
These are a few google results gestures (dip pen), some gestures from the bus today, and a disgusting ideation of a possible installation(both staedtler technical)...
Enjoy!
(p.s.) I'm so sorry that I've gotten so wordy (it happens when school gets back in)! I'll try to tone it down![]()

most recent still life is definately a step in the right direction...tbh it's probably worth taking up to an hour to do a still lfie to get used to the basics before trying to break the time down to 20 mins, although the leap between the two still lifes is certianly a good sign of progression.
Keep on kiwi'ng

Nicely done. Your loose brush-work holds together because you work with BIG SHAPES. Keep up those studies and such, your loose painting is great.

Better job on the cup this time. It looks like you were paying more attention to that oval at the bottom. As a way to add interest value in the future, you might put something near the cup that causes a reflection on the surface. Those are always fun.
What a nice SB i don't know why but i really dig your post #62 maybe cos of the experimentation thing lol and also i love brown recycled paper too!! its awesome to bad where im from theres not such thing, keep it up! can't wait to see more!
