Cool character and pose. You have a great style. Maybe do some studies to understand an accurate representation, but doing inaccurate proportional people is perfectly fine. I find those types of characters far more fun and entertaining. Keep it up.

LtPlissken You are a creative wordsmith if I've ever met one. I would love to see inside your brain. Thank god you're an artist so I can get pretty close!

    Sweron Grazie!

loper42 Thanks and thanks! And I tend to agree, though my brain makes me frustrated that it looks less than realistic

Hehe that Peach is cute! The forearm (holding sword) looks a tad too long though, and I've always thought that holding your arm out that way while holding a sword is unnecessarily taxing on the model...

teapo Thanks, and you too! I'm doin my best, dude.

krysjez Hi! Thanks for the crit! You're totally right. I always tend to make the wrist/forearm connection longer than it should be. I don't know why that is! I should just do extended arms a lot to figure it out.
    ---

Uggh. Okay, so I've something to confess. I've been at art school for a couple few years now and after I left community college where I was doing figure drawing like a fiend every single day and was rockin', I started my degree in Printmaking. The staff is all about looseness and not being tight and not anatomically proficient, just contemporary and "something new". The sort of "dung on a canvas" forward-thinking sort of mindset. Now, I've come to realize that they are in part right, but also in part extremely wrong. I used to be able to draw with little effort (save for the creative part of course) and to produce something pretty good. Now I'm having to retrain my brain, combine my technical with my contemporary art training and make something of magnitude rip your brains out awesome! I've a long way to go yet.

So, help me get back on track here folks!

Here are some creature heads, to see what would happen if I attempted them again, was cringing, but decided to post. I've resolved to post even shit things, it's all part of the growth process!

Some head-heads, in effort to give my characters more expression and individuality. I started each with a random "ovally" shape so that I would avoid premeditated expression. Each felt much more natural (and correct) this way. It's like hitting a sweet spot in a gesture.

And finally, some fleshing out of the "ovally" shape technique.

    Enjoy!

...and my scanner died. Just now. T_T

In the movie 'Stone Cold' from the year 1991,
Chains Cooper said to Joe Huff:
We will look in each others heads,
and Joe Huff answered, that he just might
not like what he find there.
So that is where my idea is coming from.
Wordsmith; I like that word, everyday
I learn something new, I just wrote down that
word in my little learning book, and I will be using
that same phrase, when you will be the least expecting it.
I will surprise you in a very sudden fashion.
Nice new drawings and studies, your lines are so relaxed
and cool, just as butterfly wings in a light breeze on a warm
    sunny day.
    Take care.

Hey this weeks CHOW is wicked!! i love the topic. and your idea of your muse is really cool. So i guess you're talking about something like a forest nymph/ Dryad maybe a unicorn, right?

well try to use proper light shadow (especially shadows) setup since itll help you to portray her elusive nature using the contrast. Use a color scheme thats blends the character to the background a little. try to pick the colors that resembles the element of 'Air' (for the muse) and earthy tones for the background. Eyes should be half-closed. That will magnify her elusive/cunning nature. Her pose should resemble 'nimbleness' especially her fingers. Use some 'Blur' , 'Motion blur' when you want to blend her motions to the background, if necessary. That will add to the final output and overall theme.

*Sigh* i hope i could use more technical terms to explain myself but im trying to explain the series of images coming to my head when i heard about this character. Hope i made myself clear as i could.

Best of luck and keep updating.

Hey Kiwi thanks so much for your comments in my SB. I really like what you've got going on in yours. I know your trying to get back to your former drawing self, which is good, but I wanted you to know that I do like the loose sketches and your CHOW concepts. You have some great marks and lines. I wish you well.

Hey, Kivi, I gotta say that u aint lame at all, at least you catch the characteristics with your sketches quite nicely, though it seems that you experience some problems with rendering studies from nature could help you to use it more easily in your imaginary sketches aswell.

Thumbs up Kivi, Imo this SB has a very great potential

Hi Guys! You're all so awesome for leaving me comments, I really needed it. Was feeling pretty down this evening

    Mischeviouslittleelf Moar you shall get!

LtPlissken Hee Hee, I appreciate esoteric movie references. I will have to seek out Stone Cold. Have you seen Donnie Darko? I've a feeling you've got a liking for that movie if you have...

devastacio She's sort of, kind of a unicorn/nymph thing, but really, she's just a rabbit. A "mythical" rabbit maybe. The result of the coloration is pretty different from your suggestions, I think we have a different image in our heads What do you think of my stat?

Marion Rowling Thanks so much, I'll continue to develop. It's all a process and a journey!

Justas Thanks so much! I do rush through rendering...in the future I'll add some more developed still lifes and such to get some feedback on that aspect of my technical skills

    hücumkedi

ste Hi, how do you say your name? Hee hee. And thank you, I hope that I do progress!

    Tigermilk Wow thank you!

Masayasu Thanks so much, I will do my best

    Hi there,

well i meant elusive like a nymph/unicorn. But i like the outcome. only difference is you made her a 'dark' and i was thinking about going for 'light'. Nevertheless i think you have captured all the qualities i was imagining about her, except her nimble hands. Really like her eyes, skin/fur details as well as curvy ears and tail. btw you are not going to leave her 'backside' glowing in luminous green, are you?

her legs seems little off(looks flat too). Maybe its because you haven't finished with rendering. Especially her left leg. Also check her right shoulder. I just felt its little odd. maybe just a thought.

Add more Fur detail because otherwise itll look flat ( check her neck area ). need some good shadows/highlights for this. All in all add more details to make it realistic.

well thats all for now.Hope it helps. Btw just voted for the CHOW- Viking warrior. There are some really good pieces there.

    Good luck and keep updating.

Well, as long as her 'backside' doesn't look flat ( that will be seriously unappealing :p ) due to self emitting glow, itll be ok. try reducing the contrast and keep the fur details on. Here is an example of using a glow effect nicely. I don't mind using a glow in this manner, but make sure your color scheme goes along with it.

Nice linework on the pen drawings. Something I found when moving from pinework to brush(digital or actual paint), is to stick with monochrome, figure out tonal strengths and then bring in the colour. Just a thought, but it helped me relax, because I was trying to figure out too many visual problems at once!

    Keep posting, it's looking good.

Thanks a lot for commenting in my sketchbook, Kiwi! Thought I would return the favour.

Fun to look through your sketchbook, I like the people you draw, especially the faces in post #37.

I really like your idea with the bunny, although I feel its feet needs to be more leveled with the ground, now they almost are like they are floating in the air - but maybe that was your intention. Haha neon-green butt as well.

Keep it up and I hope you finish the bunny!
