Study_1- struggled..
Hey guys, I was awake till like crazy hours yesterday and every year near this sort of time..I begin to wonder whether I made any progress so i decided to do a self evaluation. from looking at my work, I can definitely see a pattern and im not making bigger steps with my progress as i would have liked to have...
1. "Comfort zones" I think I am playing it safe with a lot of my work and this is evident with the number of black and white sketches and a lack of colour sketches, this is not necessarily a bad thing because if im doing this to improve my tonal work then its good but deep down I know i am not that confident with my color work and a lot of the time I generally put off doing colour work. So i definitely want to attempt more colour work!
2. One thing that's more obvious to me especially is the the level of understanding of different materials and surface type is very limited ( like a lot!), and rendering in general. i can go for a overall feel with a tonal sketch but it isnt necessarily helping me with my knowledge on rendering as a lot of them are speed paints and i seem to have unconsciously seem to use that as an excuse to not render. Once again it isnt a problem if I consciously decide to just go for an overall feel but I shouldn't do it for the wrong reasons...like for example photo comp is a great time saver but I shouldnt do it because I dont know how to render...it just seems like im screwing myself by doing that.
How I'm hoping to fix these issues.?
I am basically going to do studies for the next few months on various subjects and improve observational skills. I also have 3d modelling and other stuff which I need to improve for my final major projects next term so at the very least I could do a study every day (i hope) . I really want to practice stuff I am bad at which would really help me improve; especially if I post it here in CA so even if I cant spot those mistakes, you guys would.. and hopefully critique it .....or at least point out "hey saran sort that stuff out"
Thanks

Thanks for stopping by my page Saran, i really appreciate it and you do have some point and i've been struggling with no being able to apply my studies, any tip?
Beautiful study of the train, the perspective seems to be accurate. keep 'em coming!
another quick study to get an overall feel as the original http://www.flickr.com/photos/belhaven2011/8294050810/
another study..http://www.flickr.com/photos/2164416...n/photostream/
I really, really enjoy your environmental speedpaints! You've got a great control of depth, and the actual worlds you're creating are pretty inviting! I'm super excited to see what comes of your continued studies of the human form!
I finally got my hands on game of thrones and decided to watch it but i get the feeling ep is gonna take a few days to watch it since im stopping it every few mins to do a 1 hr speedpaint. this is from ep3
more to come
starting from colour is soo daunting sometimes.
i would suggest you try textured brushed, you composition and colors knowledge is good and you use it well, but try to add textures through brush or paint the textures and apply
cheers

Post 116 is a REALLY strong image. Good values, composition, scale, perspective. All it needs is some color to take it to the next level.
Awesome job. Keep it up!
