Important Austin POD Update (for all those interested in coming to The Austin POD)
Almost Full and then we are FULL and a lot of important news below: As stated in another post, the Austin POD has only four spots left. There are eight more worthy students joining us, leaving four spots. There are two all-star art school graduates joining us to study in the spring as well, once their degrees are completed. We will fill this semester and there will be no additional spots until either the current crop graduates or we grow into the other space in our gallery/venue/school downtown.
If you are planning on joining us or even considering coming to Austin's POD, you will want to know this stuff below. It is about to get very interesting.
There are relationships being formed in TAD that will last entire careers. Austin is focused on the entertainment side of things for now and as we grow. This means learning to work in the film, games, toys, comics, new media, interactive, and entertainment industries, for the students here. This means TAD brings this industry to the PODs and the online program too.
This week TAD Austin brings the International Game Developers Association's Microtalks to our place. 100 IGDA game developers, and creatives from companies like EA: Bioware, THQ, and more will be joining us for a day of industry power talks, networking, friend making, and presentations. The Online Program will be getting it's second Industry and Career Day in the coming weeks as well. Opportunity continues to come and when students are ready it will be there for them.
There are more companies and professionals coming to TAD Austin this week than came to the private art school I went to over both my years there combined. TAD Online has another exciting Career and Industry Day coming too. This is going to be an incredible year coming up. On top of student relationships, professional relationships will become realized as students are ready.
UPCOMING GOODNESS FOR THE COMING SEMESTER: We have three weeks of workshops coming in Jan with most all TAD faculty joining us in person. We have capped the number of students who can attend. It will be a life changing experience for all who can make it. TAD Online students will get Online participation through our panel talks during that time as well.
We have two weeks in March where the famed SXSW music, film, and interactive festival sees one million creative and interesting people engulf our neighborhood. We hold the opening event for all of SXSW, and are an official venue for the South by Southwest festivals. We will be holding industry VIP shows, art gallery openings, live music, art, performances, live life painting, live digital painting, dance and more...you know how we roll right? Well it is about to get going. And this coming semester Austin is going to rock...and be at the heart of the entertainment and creative business.
TAD will also be presenting, via my panel I have put together for the SXSW Interactive conference. There are big things happening. I look forward to sharing them all
With that said, Dr. Sketchy's continues to flow throgh one Sunday each month, and the models in figure have been muses in the true sense. It is time to mix it up with some real character types too!
On other good fronts, Austin's most respected DJ, DJ Manny is going to be giving Monday night classes to the TAD POD students for free. He has moved his DJ Dojo right into the space, which means responsible and interested students have full access to a pro dj studio when you attend and a teacher who can give you something to do in your free time that is outside drawing and painting.
Saturdays, the city's top aerialist Agent Red teaches aerialist classes and from five to seven that evening the acrobatic ladies twirl from the ceiling. We do our best to see that life goes on as if nothing inspiring is happening, except for the comments of "wow"..."oh wow!" between making drawings. Seeing the figure from all views, perspectives, and angles, is important to visualizing from imagination. Might as well move the imagination...onward and upward
And finally, The Illustration Academy Art Show has been hung in the POD and there are works that move us every day, hung and on full display. One of the pieces inspired me to study with the Academy faculty in the 90's. That one is never leaving the building if I can help it
Gary Kelley, Mark English, John English, Sterling Hundley, George Pratt and a host of others have their works up for show. Great stuff. Come on by if you are in the area. The gallery is now open to the public by appointment.
Best and thanks for the interest,

sxsw last year...and some ATX POD fun...
a little pic of the whole show (low res apologies, but this gives a good idea of what we like to do : ) There were more than 500 professionals from companies around the world and more than 1000 guests.

Even TAD's admissions and assistant queens bring the inspiration...and if not the Monster mascot will be sure to get you.

An incredible semester is coming. See everyone soon.
