    Kay's sketchipoos (UPDATED 13 July PAGE 3)

    Hi there!
I've been a member for a while but not very active...George(CGAddict) dragged me over here to start my own sketch thread. It took me a while and a bit of nagging, but here I am
I really should do more sketches and stuff anyway, it really helps me improve. But I just need DISCIPLINE. I just suck at being disciplined :/. Hopefully being here with George will help a lot.

These are from Barbara Bradley's book http://www.amazon.com/Drawing-People.../dp/1581803591 Including the notes. Copying her drawings and observation tips has helped me a lot in drawing fabric..

    from imagination, no ref

I used Shashi Kapoor's face as reference for the one on the right
It's supposed to be my version of Rama and Lakshman

Very glad you finally made a sketchbook! Trust me, it'll definitely pay off with all the advice and critiques you'll be receiving - you'll be a pro in no time

Really enjoy the work here so far, especially those drapery studies, especially regarding your use of values. Keep going!

    Cow ahoo!

Joe, Justyna, George - THANK YOU so much for the warm welcome

This is a character I've been having in my head, perhaps an updated cartoon version of me. I'm drawing concept and sketches of her because I have plans to do two paintings that include her, and I want to get a feel of how she would look like and who she is and such.

will tidy up and colour her later, hehe

Hannes, thanks! I'm sure you will find them useful
    today: doodles doodles from imagination
    1. Just something from the ladies wearing gowns genre...well im just drawing them being totally knackered and having a smoke break. You know standing around a lot all day is got to be tiring.
    2. more of the ladies in gown. I might make a full painting of it so I'm just conceptualizing the facial features. The right half is sketches of a full painting I plan to do of my uncle and cousins ...They have asked me to draw them a while back and I haven't gotten round to it. Just...lack of ideas until now I suppose.

They're pencil drawings and I scan them and adjusted the colours in Photoshop

    boobbeedoop beebeedoop.

Hi everyone I haven't updated for a while. I'm not trailing off I swear!
Ok more stuff, mostly digital sketches and such this time.
Ok these are done earlier this year. They are copies of Ramon Kelley's excellent artworks. I'm experimenting with different art brushes in Photoshop (99% of the time I just use the standard round brush), along with blocking in colours and getting the general form laid down instead of getting hang up with little details.

Go check his book out, it's awesome. I'm sure it will help you too!

You did it well!! I think The second one is my favorite - so soft and tender ... The hands seems really big and not well shaped... even for speed painting - If you touch them a little this will be great.
    Congrats

what I like about your studies is that you write notes beside them. Do you find that is more helpful than just doing tons of sketches? I'm curious.
