    D's sketchbook

Hello, everyone! I've been hanging around ConceptArt.org for a long time now, and always admired the art posted on these threads. I'd really like to improve my drawing/painting skills, so I decided to start up a sketchbook. I will be posting my rough work here mostly, as well as works in progress. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

    Ulla the Hag - WIP

One of the characters in the story I am writing I still have to decide on the colour palette, but I am pretty happy with the layout so far.

Not so bad overall. You must work on the poses ( in the moment they look twisted and not very believable or just stiffed) on the human anatomy and you are still very shy with the colors. Use different colors and tones to make the value - not only light and shadows.
That's from me I hope this will give you a direction to take.

Kitana_mk: Thank you for pointing those things out I've been told before that my characters look a bit stiff, and this is because I do a lot of construction before I block in the colours. I'll be taking some figure drawing classes starting in January, so I hope that will be remedied in the near future As for the colours... you are right: saturated colours scare me. But, I'll try to add some colour to this piece before I finish it Thanks again

Yay Finished it I generally do not do such elaborate backgrounds, so I am really happy with the way it turned out. I also tried to push myself and use more saturated colours to make things pop I do need to practice more, though

It's very interesting to see your WIPs, and you have skills! for your last one, the background should be less blurry maybe (but I think it's not finished yet) Nice work with the trees, but maybe the ones at the back should fade a little more in the background, and the ones near us should have more details. I see you already did that a bit, so it's a good start It's a depth thing ^^

On your first painting with the 2 characters, the stone on the ground in front of them should not be blurry either: it's right in front of "us" so we should see it well, with more details ^^ there is a too big contrast between the details of the characters and the blurry ground in front of them.

Hope it helps! keep up the good work

Evolvana: Thank you so much for the awesome tips I've only recently started incorporating more complex backgrounds into my paintings, and will continue to push myself to make them more detailed and realistic

    Figure drawing

I like drawing these by hand sooo much better, but I want to develop a feel for proportions while using the drawing tablet as well. For somewhat reason I am not as well coordinated in Photoshop as I am w/ a pencil O.o
