    Smile Balor's sketchbook - dark fantasy/mythology/sci-fi

Hi everyone, I am new here. Stuff shown here is (mostly) related to the graphic novel I'm currently working on. drawing is my hobby - I do something different as my day job. I've published some stuff here and there (comics - related, mostly), but nothing special. So, here are some of my works. Any feedback is appreciated.

That's some enviably neat hatching you've got there, and your values really pop/are nicely defined.. I think I learned something just looking at these.

Here's some more stuff - this time, some finished pages from the comic book that was started, but abandoned very quickly. I may try to finish this in the future.

I did this one last night - this time, I was inspired by one of the characters from the Steven Erikson's "Midnight Tides" (Trull Sengar).

Actually, when I was a teenager, Spawn was one of the comics that had a lot of influence on my style. I guess it can be seen even now

Awesome awesome stuff mr, love the dark look of your work I can definitely see the spawn influence in there to. Your rendering is superb too I am vey jealous. The last character piece you posted is really strong love the pose and the intensity in his face, he has a real sense of emotion and personality. Not sure if your still working on it or not, my only though its that sometimes you darks could be a bit darker just to make certain areas pop more. Really want to see more great stuff.

Your linework is bloody incredible and your hatching is seriously insane. I like how much these images pop out, and even the power with which static images can explode across a panel.

    Really outstanding stuff here!

Love your style man. Can i make a request, a female character. So far your sketch book seems to be focused on demonic macho characters and don't get me wrong they look sick. Thanks for sharing your work with us, and keep it up.

Yup, demons/monsters and warrior macho characters is something I like very much. I am still not satisfied how my female characters look like - but I may try to draw one these days.

Im fascinated with your sketchbook! you dont over render things so much which is really good, you know your values and shadows really well, you dont need to show every little aspect of the drawing which is great! so youre not comfortable with your female figures yet? i encourage you to break out of your comfort zone and experiment things you wouldnt have done before!

Thank you very much. Yes, I know I will have to tackle the female figure at some point - I will probably do something in the next couple of weeks (I should be on vacation now, so I will have more time to draw). A lot of times I found myself doing something inside my comfort zone - exactly as you said. I am completely aware that the only way to truly improve is to get out of that comfort zone, so that is something I am really trying to do.

I try to experiment and improve as much as possible. I also try to learn something new on a regular basis, which is not easy, because drawing is my hobby, not something I do for a living. I am self - taught, never went to art school, but I was very fortunate to be around some very talented people, so I picked up a few things here and there. I know I am lacking a lot of knowledge that professional artists have, but I'm working on filling up those holes.

So, expect to see some females soon

Wow really youre self taught? i was convinced you were a professional, but even if you are a hobbyist self improvement and new things will keep you interested and keep you going, you never know you might end up liking something that you otherwise thought was boring

This was done fairly quick - Warhammer 40K again, not as detailed as I want it to be, but I think it manages to get the work done.
