another free sketch alien space ship deal. think they were inspired somewhat from watching scott robertson videos on gnomon workshop. i think they operate underwater.

the last one is a quick concept of some monkeys. my friend gave me an idea to work with, like practice. he said some crazy monkey 2 headed 6 legged. so i decided to try it, turned out REALLY fun lol i made pages and pages. so i decided this 2 headed monkey would be fast as hell. one was a killer, the other was a scientist/repair dude, and built weapons and other things. one would sleep while the other rested sorta thing. has throwing knives that look like bananas. And it is smarter than human, bc in that world humans were kinda in the middle of the food chain. lol

Hey man - Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook!

Joining up here and asking for critiques and comments is a great way to grow as an artist. There's tons to learn as you know!

Critique/comments:
It's pretty hard to see some of the finer detail since these aren't scanned - but you're well aware of that.

I see you've done a good mix of things as you're starting out here. The contour line concepts look pretty good.. you have tons of thumbnails too. How are you going about incorporating those into a larger piece?

What I'm getting at, is are you using the silhouettes to just sort of give you your boundaries? It seems you could better use them (and other early stage steps) to define your shapes a little better, even if you're drawing without reference. I hope that makes sense.

Just a small update for today. didnt sleep last night bc i was busy doing the flip art on my new dsi. ordered the r4 pack so i can do some COLORS ha cant wait. and hopefully my intuos arrives here this week. if not, i will scream.

so these are obviously thumbnails ha, what can i say, they really make me happy and i just sit and do them for hours.

oh and its the marine corps bday. cheers!

Keep on drawing man!
My one suggestion would be to make it a habit or keeping some loose ref on hand when drawing stuff from your head. Make it a habit to have google images up and just type in stuff even remotely to do with what youre drawing either that or grab a clothes magazine.
Just anything you can glance over at and go "ohhhh, thats how that goes".

so that way even when you dont feel like drawing from something verbatim or studying, you are constantly adding to that visual library.

Ill agree with Aveh, always use a referance of some kind!
I think you should try being a bit more fluid in your approach to drawing lines, definatly on the human form. Keep on studying!

yesterday my network blocked me out for some reason

ha and so i bought a scanner yesterday, hoping it would help with the sketches... and scanned all my stuff from today and yesterday, didnt look at it, until just now and the sketches dont even show up,

i think i know why it came out so bright, i put the whole sketch book in the scanner, and left the lid up... is that why? i wont be able to test it again until tmrw, bc im at wifi spot and stuff isnt here. cheers guys

hmm. well to answer you question about the scanner the lid doesn't necessarily have to be closed, if you placed your entire sketch book inside the scanner with the scanner the thickness of your sketch book would compensate as the new lid. When scanning single sheets of paper, then the lid must be closed

Also make sure your white balance and other fine tuned option are correct.

If none of that helps it a possibility that its a faulty scanner

SJ thanks for the suggestion. I couldnt figure out how to adjust the levels on the scanner. seems u can only adjust levels for the printer. but i got it used, w/e. I am just going to draw with a softer lead when using the scanner.

Hey those sculpture studies look like a pretty big improvement!!! It seems like you're focusing on softer strokes but you still need to work on more fluid lines for continuity of form. Nice work - keep it up!

Studies from Loomis book. was pretty fun because i had never known u can make a head from a circle, i always just used 2 ellipses! but anyways, love reading Loomis and Bridgman.
