I'll just post some of my favorites to start it off. Not sure how attachments works, so I'll wing it till I figure out.
Drew this stemless pepper thing today, Oil pastels in Painter 11.
The skull is from reference in Photoshop Elements 8
The dragon is... well, a dragon thing.
Ok, I think I got this uploading thing down. Here is a dragon I liked in my sketchbook, so I decided to add shading in Photoshop.
I got really lucky on this one, it conveys more emotion than my usual lifeless doodles.
Ooh, you're 16 eh? You've totally got an eye for art, I would say.grab yourself some anatomy books and you'll be great in no time!
Great to see another 16 year old!
LovelessDevout is right about you; you certainly have an eye for art. All I can tell you is to start studying immediately.
Study from life, anatomy books, whatever you can draw really![]()
I really like your skull, how smooth it is and the really good shading on it. I can't really put my finger on it but something about the outline of it really pleases me. Also the use of red instead just black and white is really cool too. The shading on the bell pepper (it is a bell pepper right?) is amazing. The texture on is is great, the fact that there's a tint of orange-brown on the edges gives it life.
On your first dragon I like the torso part after the front leg because it has really good shape, like what I'd think would be on a dragon. The back claw in the front is wow. There is some small things you could work on. The tail looks very stiff (Though admittedly this isn't a movement sketch so maybe not to biggie) And the horn. It's just a matter of personal preference but for the middle to be the thinnest part isn't really making too much sense to me. Also on both of your dragons the necks are bothering me, maybe too smooth? Draw some scales, they'd look amazing on both of them.
Draw more soon! (And yay for young artists!)![]()
i like your dragons man, always have enjoyed drawing them. if you're looking for an awesome teaching tool google or you tube "riven Pheonix" (i think thats how he spells his name) he offers these amazing drawing tutorials for really cheap. i have his how to draw the human body from your mind DVD set and its amazing how quick you can learn to draw super realistic characters just from watching these videos. check him out and you'll be hooked. good luck!
Still figuring out how this thing works. If I quote someone to reply and say thanks, does it notify them? eh, whatever.
Anywho, here is todays typical sketchbook page. The head is pretty messed up, eyes are much too low I think. Pepper from memory/imagination. McDonald's cup. Faces.
BigBadSheep: Thanks! The dragon was mostly to help with anatomy, so it has no scales or anything on purpose (though I normally don't draw them for the sake of being able to crank out more anatomy studies.) I try to do things by week, but I'm postponing that and drawing whatever the heck until I finish a book. You are correct about the horn, it does not fit the design. I really shouldn't have drawn more than a circle a square for that head though. Not sure what would be wrong with the necks, maybe they are attached wrong? Sometimes I have trouble debating where it should go. I'll look into that, thanks.
everydayartist: Thanks! I will have to look at those.
All in a day's doodles?
1st one is my favorite page out of my drawings from studying my new book Dynamic Anatomy by Burne Hogarth.
2nd one is the same deal but from memory at school.
3rd one is a Picasso inspired drawing/sketch for a school assignment.
More Hogarth studies before bed. trying to get the torso down, it is sort of difficult. Oh well, practice makes perfect (or near perfect.).
Great work man, keep pushing the observation and studying and you'll see some big improvements. Really slam that anatomy!
Draw draw draw and you'll get there!
Keep up the dragon stuff too, they're pretty badass.![]()
eekolite: Thanks! Slamming anatomy sounds like a good idea.
More sketches today.
A robot and some dragon looking things. As always criticism is more than welcomed and appreciated.
fantastic stuff for someone just starting in march of '10!!![]()

Nice start!
On your dragons, remember: the best fantastic animals have some anatomical basis in reality. In other words, you'll do yourself a favor studying real-world animals and how they're put together, then applying it to your dragons. (Jack Hamm's How To Draw Animals is a good starting point; it focuses on mammals, but it also shows how many animals have similar points and structures.) Dinosaur skeletons and reconstructions also make excellent dragon inspiration points.
Now keep drawing!

Go find something flat, and scribble on it. People have been doing that for tens of thousands of years, and it's mostly been ok.

Brightdreamer, Thanks! I can sort of relate to what you are saying actually. What I have now is loosely based on what I observed from drawing big cats, but it definitely couldn't hurt to mix more animal anatomies in there. Thanks for the suggestions, I will keep them in mind.
olivepalm, Thank you! Always room for improvement though.
This post is just another page of sketches from school. I REALLY struggle with 3/4 views, any suggestions?
And are we not allowed to make different font colors on the forums? (silly me, out of place questions.)
I gotta say, I do enjoy your dragons quite a lot. =)
Nice start. Too few pics there at the moment to give advice. Maybe do few antomy studies. Looking forward to seening more.
Banrai, ThanksDragons are fun to draw.
Mitze, You bet, looking forward to drawing more.
Pretty much all heads, all the pages I did in the past couple hours.
Today got 5 sketchbook pages done in school. Craziness I tell you.
Only posting 4. As always, any critiques welcome, even harsh ones.
Yet another thing I struggle with sometimes, emotion.
1st one is a bunch of dragon heads attempting to be 3D, yet failing.
2nd one is a dragon and a person with so very many bad things wrong with them.
3rd one is 2 dragons, and me seeing the effect of different proportions (wasn't aiming for anything anatomically correct in a way).
4th is a bunch of random stuff.

Remind me to finish holiday related pictures BEFORE the holiday is over.
I know that "HALLOWEEN" is spelled wrong, by the way.![]()
My own character. I drew this one for a collab. I wanted to do a nice pose, I'm happy that I at least gave it a shot. Not sure if I succeeded at all.
Just a sketch for a WIP of a request.
School doodles again.
1st is an attempted 3D object study.
2nd is a bunch of random conflicting words by some doodles.
A knight I drew the other day and a load of emote-ish faces. There is an empty circle in the bottom too that I apparently didn't draw a face in.
love it-- keep up the great work. you've inspired me to start a sketchbook on here16 ftw
Nice work!
Something I wish I'd done back when I was 16 was let observation fuel my personal drawing more. If I'd been looking at the anatomy of living things when I drew dragons then, they'd look far cooler now.
Check out this http://www.skeletaldrawing.com/psgallery/gallery.htm
And look at loads of living animals, and draw how their body parts connect and move and try to bring that into your mind when drawing dragons.
Keep it up, don't disappear, keep posting art.

True progress means matching the world to the vision in our heads.
But we always change the vision instead.
Bethany K. - Thanks! I will make sure to try that out soon!
daart - Yaaaaaay!
HAJiME - Thank you! That will come in handy. I can't say that cooler dragons aren't, well, cool. I guess I should take heed of that.
For today I have A bunch of angry faces and random pen doodles.
