HI !
Here's the thing: I'm almost 22, and i really want to improve, because for now I suck and i just can't have a job with my level. I'm kind of stuck: i don't know what to do to progress, i've got a lot of problems with colors, anatomy, perspective... For anatomy i think i should read some loomis, for perpective and colors i don't know (if you have some ideas !)
As i'm posting this thread i'm seeing that i don't even have a landscape, i should try to do some arrh.
Some doodles, studies, speedies, things from imagination or life, lkhgleqrih etc..
Say anything you want, i really need another opinion !

Well, it seems like nobody has critic or anything to say, i must stick to my motivation.
By the way I did this, and, i must admit, it's very hard. I think i'm gonna do this kind of thing more often... It's not finished but my hand hurts like hell !

You're work is good, and you're much too hard on yourself from what I can tell. As long as you keep practicing, you'll make progress. As for perspective, I highly recommend 'Perspective Made Easy', lots of useful exercises there. Your latest painting is excellent, great use of values and colors there.

Thanks a lot for answering me ! Maybe i'm too hard but when i come lurking here, i can't stop thinking that my drawing are really bad. I will check "Perspective Made Easy"... And for the latest painting, well, it 's a bit orange but i learned 2 or 3 things so it's cool !

Thanks for your answer Woji, i totally agree when you say "just channel the hate into productivity" and i will try that.. (will check your sketchbook too, but unfortunately i didn't have the time recently to check the forum, and draw.)

So, i just have a study for now : bouguereau color study (little things don't fit the original but it's not a copy and it was usefull for my eyes). I think i'll post more things tomorrow if i have the time.

I would have to agree with cgaddict, you are going the right way about this. Stick around and check out the other threads of this forum. If you want to succeed as an artist be sure to be around successful ones. Just because you have flaws here and there, doesn’t mean it isn’t worth paying for. If you grabbed a by standard attention by your work alone, which I know you had, you are good. BTW your figures are stiff I would refer you to http://www.drawingforce.com/ and check out the book as well. As I will keep on saying, don’t just look at the pictures, read the notes that the artist has taken. Give yourself a regiment. When I was in Art Center I had to do 30-40 clean line drawings. Glen Villpu when he was criticized for his line work being sloppy in his early days, he took a series 7 Winsor & Newton brush and did nothing but a series of lines pint to pint for the next 8 hours.
As for commission, I have seen works that are practically not so good carbon copies or drawing resembling a middle to high school work that have sold at the equvalents of $25-$30 dollars an hour. check out these threads.

Oh oh Sorry one more thing. Dont accept or deny your flaws. Observe. Surprisingly harder and easier than it sounds. Dont feel good about your color? Do a series of color studys. Dont feel good about your line work? do a series of line work studies. Compostion, perspective, anatomy, all the same.

if youre worried about color, try to start with values of things first and then add color.

is that first painting done on ds? and good stuff so far, i just started reading one of loomis' books today, the head and hand one. pretty good stuff so far.

Really speed study (for me) about 20" of a photo just to apply the colors..

Another study, but unfinished, and some sketches i've done at the zoo (approx 30sec to 2mn each). I've got some other sketches but my camera quality is too bad so the pictures are noisy and not very clear.

An autoportrait. Oh woa, it was difficult to draw myself while holding a little mirror in my left hand. Weell, i'm not really happy with it but i'll progress (i .. hope?)

And a question, what do you think i should do to improve, what kind of study ? or maybe landscape? anatomy?? aww i don't know, please let me know your point !

Lovely sketchbook. Yr a trooper to do a self portrait while holding up a mirror! I liked the pirate, little red riding hood painting, and the horse.

I have no real critiques. Maybe draw more from imagination while keeping up with your studies.

I want to draw more from imagination but i'm doing the same shit each time : characters like the pirate with a blank lanscape behind. I've got some ideas but i'm not comfortable with the technical stuff yet, so it's very frustrating. So i wonder... what can i do to train my eyes aarh

Yeah I think the imagination stuff is what comes the slowest. I'm having a lot of troubles with it myself.

As for any advice I'll defer to an artist much better than myself.

To train your imagination: When you do a referenced study, say of a figure, cover it up and make a duplicate next to it from memory. Then compare and you'll see what information you're retaining and what information you're forgetting.

Hogwash : YES, i agree, i think i'im afraid to try new things, afraid to fail because i failed so many times, now i want to progress so i MUST step out my comfort zone. I'm gonna make some duplicate like you said, and try the had working "method" that lancer_idenoure explains.
