    Photoshop or Illustrator

I am a 16 year old hoping to become a illustrator or conceptual designer or something along those lines. I currently use gimp, but find it quite annoying. I was wandering which out of the two programs mentioned in the title would better for an artist. I would be grateful for any responses.

    Cheers

Apples and oranges, rasters and vectors.

But to answer your question: Painter 11.

Of the two you mentioned, Photoshop - all day.

Illustrator is good for more graphical imagery, your logos, fonts and icons. Or vector art more often.
Where as photoshop is often used more for its simple yet powerful interface, it'll be easier to learn than gimp. I think photoshop is what you want.

Even for taking the first steps in graphic design there are much better alternatives like Xara, there's also Inkscape which is free and very buggy.

Photoshop, Painter, SAI, Sketchbook Pro, etc... there's demos of everything, for starting you don't need Photoshop.
