Hell is other art students - Year 3 - startling Elwell collaboration piece

first week of school. no time for sleeping.

I swore I'd never do an ironic Super Mario piece, yet this sketch exists

    never used watercolors before.

Muddy, I know. But she was such an unnatural, overly-tanned color that it threw me off.

this sketch isn't working conceptually. I chose the wrong career.

I didn't bother scanning the whole thing.

what the hell is this bug

I've just been informed it's a plume moth. And apparently, it's a totally boring looking plume moth, compared to its superior brethren

and the collab with Elwell and classmates, as evidenced by the horse. We crammed in rim lighting and lens flare for good measure.

Oral pleasure eh? You're stuff is great so far, and I really dig that Super Mario picture you did as well. I don't really have any critique to give you, it seems like you're already on the right track. Keep it up, I'd like to see where your art goes from here.

    sketches for The Juniper Tree.

just found this old sketch for The Spray. Nothing special but it pointed me in the right direction.

You're barely a few posts into your sketchbook and I'm blown away by some of your work.
Interesting themes and executed pretty well.

I'll be watching out for your updates, most definently.

I keep avoiding updating until I get some polished thesis sketches together, but I threw out everything last week. I'll post the rejects eventually. Until then, watercolor studies and sketches for A Space Odyssey

She really did have weird, stumpy shins, I swear.

Thanks for the kind words. It's especially nice after the head of the illustration department tore me apart, leaving only bloody meat in teeth.

Break starts tomorrow, so I should have more to post soon. Or I'll just completely fail to accomplish anything. There is no middle ground.

I have a bunch of sketches I'm going to try and post this weekend. Class with Donato Giancola seems like it will prove interesting. Need to go to bed.

latest birthday self portrait. I was having a shitty goddamn day. Was going to do a weird composition, then I pulled back, then it just ended up kind of awkwardly designed. 3.5 hours, whatever.

shitty watercolor for A Space Odyssey, just screwing around with it in Painter.

Wow. For someone who doesn't like drawing mechanical things, you sure do it well. I really like that you do a lot of watercolour work...I would have drawn lines first for the models, and THEN coloured them in, thus ruining the look of the thing.

Sorry to hear about the department head. I think they sometimes have been where they are for so long that they forget where they were, and how long it took them to get there. They forget that art is a journey, and that just like life, we're always learning new things, always growing and developing. Sometimes it takes longer to reach a waypoint in the journey than others. Don't sweat it. You're a fine artist, and as far as I can tell, you have nothing to apologize for.

let me show you what thesis has been for me.

I've had to throw out everything I've done and start again. Twice. The journey for one of the pieces:
the artsy conceptual direction that gets me smacked down

embracing that it is a story about a retarded boy killing animals

more of the same, unsure of the direction still

    finally approved by my teacher

and this, the silly final in progress. But I am pretty pleased with that arm. Look at that arm. Just look at it.

Funny thing is, I was so worried about being too tasteless, but I've only recently realized I haven't been tasteless enough for the story. Oh well. I suppose my goal is now to deliver deviants rendered to the best of my ability

I miss the more freaked out kitty from the earlier version you showed me. I know some people hated it, but I liked it.

Elwell! I liked the scared kitty as a concept, but it was really, really hilariously poorly drawn. Not that this kitty is much better. But yeah, people were not enthusiastic.

Feathered-Thanks, though I haven't used watercolors in months and have likely regressed to the point of infant-like ability.
