Luckers-glad you noticed! I couldn't figure out what to do with the mountain in yellow sky. I tried to make it cooler and it looked terrible, so yellow it went! Obviously that means I need to study how atmospheric perspective works in warm skies....
Vaejoun-thankyou
dan- thanks, haha i'm happy the recent ones are your favs.
this is nothing much, but I've been thinking alot about lighting and basing painting stroke decisions on lighting, I notice alot of subpar work, including my own is overlit-
![]()
Heh - yeah it would be annoying if everyone loved ones old work instead ~
And lovely update once more ~ are you starting to calm down a bit while still keeping your style? I sense more control in these without you losing what made it yours.

preety cool stuff right here!
i love the painterly look of your work ... it makes your paintings look so lively and dynamic ... keep it up!
dan-thanks! yeah I'm trying to calm down texture use mainly and think of lighting more. What I'm realizing is how textures/certain details tied into lighting alot more than I thought before- as in textures will show in certain types of light and in others will flatten out quite abit- halftones, the areas that are lit but not direct lit seem to show detail and colors clearest.
Elophant- Thankyou! I hope to get better with dynamic looks!
heres a few sketches, and a memory painting of some stuff in the bathroom, memory painting is fun but the result is gonna suck cause it was too complicated. Maybe I should take out color and do something simpler next times.

a tree and another crappy knight- this profile thing is plaaaaaayed out lol, could've used with some ref or studied a spoon at least...there is next time hopefully if i don't bite it first!

aye- as you say halftones (I do too many of my pieces in mostly half-tones actually, sadly so) does do that.
A friend often emphasized that, pushing the halftones areas harder detail/texture wise.
& nice updates, I prefer the first two of the 2nd to last (#186).
& I really like the highlights to halftones on the car.

thankyou sir, just experimenting with exposure levels in painting. Where to pull out my flattener and where to pump up da volume hehe.
fixed that fucked up knight head and drew a tank

hey lemur, seen your stuff on sijun and what a pleasant surprise to see your stuff here at ca. your strokes/economy, lighting, form, materials...just all great. damn good paintings. keep kicking ass man!
Now this is some cool stuff; is this Painter?
Great economy of strokes, great texture. And you're keeping your values in check. You're doing very well.
Lovely update to the knight/armour & the tank is nice too.

takashmen-glad you get inspired!
eightball-good seein ya- thanks for stopping by!
drd-thankya, its photoshop, just learned a few tricks to make it look sortof painterly.
dan- that knight really needed some changes lol
Howie-whatup dude! thanks for the kind words
Just did an acrylic/wc of the knight head, great medium that needs alot of thought. I need to start juggling these cause the time for washes to dry hampers compared to digital-what a brat I am

awesommmmeeeeeeand you who rate this gold lower than 5. do your homework! edit* there fixed that for ya
Man you got some awsome stuff here, makes me want to go burn a fat one and let er rip like the good ol days!
You touch on many things I am working on such as lighting, texture, and edges. As you stated, I think the thing that helps me most is life studies. I just try and render things as true to life as I possibly can, because as Hudson river school(James Guerny) states "you can never hope to improve upon life, only to be improved by her"(or something like that). Anyways, enough blah!
Im subscribed, inspiring stuff.
Gosh, amazing brushstrokes everywhere! Love them so much. Wish I could work like that.
Last environment is very interesting with that lightsituation. It has a very forbidding mood in my opinion
takashmen-ah your screen was turned down or somethin? lol i do that sometimes
Dile-hehheh thanks for the star jump! now i can sink into complacency til i get downvoted again.
brentos-haa let er rip! I love Gurney and have learned alot from his blog/books. Of course I love stylized stuff too, i guess thats nature too-nature of the brains interpretation maaan
Valyavande- thanks, lately I've been using additive subtractive working method to get that sortof painterly effect. Especially carving with layers, put down some strokes on a layer above then use the eraser on that sucka till its right-also use smudge tool can help get some weird shapes on a new layer.
A couple grey sketches cause i was looking at Jama's stuff and got really inspired-

i think it was because i had sun behind the screen
nice sketches
the second one in gray need some texture or sth to define levels of men walking towards screen and standing
perspective in the last seems all right, but hmm a bit too maessy
cheers

takashmen-thanks for pointing these things out! i'm trying to learn to be looser/smarter and frankly im just not good enough at it yet-usually its cause when you don't have as much there the stuff that is there has really gotta be spot on.
nickybeats-haa makes me feel

woooooooooow! just beautiful! love everything![]()
Your brush efficiency is insane.
Very juicy colors with awesome dramatic lighting.
Sometimes your values are a little plain in comparison though.
I'm trying to find out how you manage to make all those different brush shapes look so organic together, and i just cant' figure how to start out on a pic like that. I just looked at the last two pages so i don't know if you already have this, but some sort step-by-step of your process would be very appreciated![]()
Pkmike-thanks!
Xelar- thankyou, i think i know what you mean, sometimes I could push the contrast a little...will be thinking of that
walnut- i'll put a step by step in the next one, theres one 3 page back I think of an interior scene. The key is to start abstractly-ruin an old painting is a great way... Think of lighting design, general gesture and volume before trying to get specific edges/details too. The key is to have it "hint'' at volumes and light in an interesting way, which then you rationalize with more specific shapes. Theres alot of dimensions to it that you have to juggle, and alot of different processes. It can quickly get into an infinite discussion from here lol, but basically hint the painting instead of trying to outright say it from the start. Or say it and then screw it up and repaint it!
Came back cause I painted this badboy and thought he'd be a good replacement of the gorilla...rimlight and all lol-
