i tried painting in oils. I've never taken any lessons on how to use the tools so it was kind of scary. I figured since I might ruin something I would just paint the same old same old to avoid botching something harder.

my friend who actually knows about art and painting said he would teach me about oils

I'll scan the initial sketches for this character sometime and post the colors when I've got a little more done on them. I really want to learn more about environments but this is all I have to post for the moment.

    don't we all...

I thought I had left a comment the last time i came here because I remember seeing the mar 13 post but ah well seems like I didn't. I do like how you draw hair, I'm hopeless at it right now...is the game your own project or someone else's? Also you might want to take a look at the coloring of the woman's nose, it stands out a bit too much I think.

Thank you, her face does bother me for some reason, so i'll mess with that.
There are 6 different groups I am doing game art for, along with another stop motion project. I kind of took on a lot without realizing it. Thank you for the compliment and sympathy... haha
If nothing else, I guess I have gotten a little faster and more confident, and I have started working more with perspective and backgrounds. There is an endless amount I have to improve on but I will try to be happier about small victories.

For hair, I find it's really easy in photoshop painting if I use the default hard brush at about 70% opacity for blocking in colors/values, about 30-40% for blending, and about 85% to draw in individual strands.

Here is a wip of a little space station for one of the games:

hey eyestrain, very nice sb! I like the fantastic creatures and character sketches here. nice colours. but don't forget to study anatomy regularly, it's very important to do such studies.
by the way, your animal drawings are very beautiful, too. really enjoyed looking at them.

Thank you, Lux. I tried doing some anatomy studies today. Drawing from photos or other drawings is a lot different than drawing from life. Then did a sketch to practice (arms), though i think the painting got confused.

Two game title screens (first one is wip still), ap splash screen, practice with split complimentary(?) color scheme.

    Priorities to study:
    Color schemes
    anatomy, figure drawing
    perspective

the only one directly referenced is the green and blue sketch, from "Strength Training Anatomy: Second Edition" by Frederic Delavier. The rest are pieced together from looking at other references, or from imagination.

That is such a kind thing for you to say to me... Thank you so much

I feel like i'm on the cusp of actually beginning to get some skill. But there is a lot of study that needs to happen before that. I really need to do a lot more life and figure drawing. But that would require me to be around other people...

Here's some of the stuff I've been doing over the summer. I've done a lot of paintings, pushing myself to use color, and have tried to do more drawing and lineart than before. Practicing with dip pens is helping me break away from only painting. There is still just so much I am not doing!
