Thank you BlueBerry! This is one of my attempts at creating a non-human creature; I really don't draw much of animals and all.
Surely you will be seeing more of Meow soon!![]()

Don't bother looking at my sketchbook. I haven't updated that thing in years. :/
hey man, nice bunch of sketches you got there! i like especially how you give them 'tension' in their stance if you understand what i mean. that said, i think you should really try to go more in the direction of the last picture of post no#29, than the first of the same post.
but yeah, just keep them coming, you're already improving![]()
@DerMonkey
Thanks alot mate! Even personally, I hate drawing with pen; I can't seem to get it right. Its just not for meI'll be trying whatever technique my hands want to practice in that certain moment of time

So here is from Sunday's PencilJam sketch. Its not much; I was always afraid of shading, and please bear with me if they are wrong, I'm just starting
The first is a life sketch on site of a Devotee Sculpture at the Bull Temple in Bangalore. He looked pretty rad sitting there like that so I thought I'd sketch him
The second is from the previous PencilJam sessions I attended, at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Bangalore. It isn't much, I was just trying to capture the nature of the shapes than the actual volumes. Got alot of critique saying its way too flat and has no depth.
Some of the lighter details on the darker side of the stone got lost while scanning? Any tips on better scanning?

I definitely like the second sketch quite a bit more; you've got some great work here! Makes me want to actually invest in a copy of Bridgman...gah.
Anyway, the only thing I would comment on would be the foot and leg on the right side of the first drawing; they don't seem quite in place, and the foot seems too small.
As far as scanning goes, could you tell me which scanner/printer you have? My HP allows me to manually adjust the images afterwards, so that I can at least bring out the darks a bit more. The other option, of course, is photoshop...
@FerrousCranium
Thank you for the comment FC!
Something about the sculpture looks weird cause it was so far away. It was in the top of the temple and I couldn't really make out much of the details (so some of it is my own). But as for the leg, I'm pretty sure it was like this due to the distance, and it being so high up.
Mine is a Canon scanner, and comes with a scanning package known as MP Navigator EX. I had a Genius scanner previously, and it allowed to precompose and color correct my scan. In this there's nothing, just controls for adjusting dpi and a few miscellaneous settings.
Right now I'm using PS to edit every pic after the scan, it is tedious and time consuming, but gets the job done. I think I should go for batch editing.

Really impressed with what you've posted so far.
I'm a beginner too (you posted on my thread) and I know what you mean about frustration. I truly SUCK at the moment. Your enthusiasm is contagious though, so I'm off to draw more!
Thanks man, keep up the good work!

Hey! I haven't posted here in awhile now.. Those blue pencil sketches of Meow look great, especially the one where it's runningHumanoid thingi, the propertions of the arms are quite odd, but I guess its description kinda overrides all of that
![]()
And is that George in the PJ sketch? That sketch looks great! I'd mail you my nature study assignments, you're good at them trees and leaves and thingamagigs.. hehe.. Keep drawing those hands nd feet! from life too, not just from books.. Never mind that the comp's not working.. That's no reason to keep anyone from sketching!
@donthedragon
Thank you for your kind comments bro! You're not bad, we all gotta keep practicing right?
@Sharon
I really enjoyed the Blue Meow sketches, they were pretty fun to do. Remember the kohinoor lead I told you about? That's what.
About my computer, I'm too lazy to borrow a friends lap to scan up a pic. I am sketching, its just that I'm not uploading them at the moment![]()

Saw your sketchbook.. they are very impressive. Very strong lines.. Keep up the good work..![]()
I am Legend Screen Paint
I finally managed to fix my computer to a degree and completed my latest painting (problem in this thread, help appreciated)
An experiment to copy a scene as closely as possible, both by colors and content. I used one of my favorite scenes from the movie 'I'm Legend'. Yep, I know Will Smith doesn't look like Will Smith and Samantha doesn't look like Samantha. Its my first attempt to do something as realistic as possible. And I'm not there yet.
Used Sketchbook and PS. Took LOT of time.

Hey Milad!
Sorry I haven't posted in a while mate, never seem to get any spare time!
Dude, I love that painting! It might not be as realistic as you want it to be, but it's really stylized, kinda like contemporary pop art. (I know that's not what you're going for)
All I can suggest is check out some tutorials on rendering work in PS, there's plenty on youTube from what I can see.....though most of them are way above anything I've attempted. I'm having the same problem at the moment.
Don't give up on it, and keep trying your hardest bro! Thread subscribed.

I like the hand studies in the first post and the man sitting and drawing in what looks like a garden? The detail in it is nice.
@don
Thanks for the kind comment bro! Yeah, you're right that I wasn't going for a stylized look. I wanted it to be fairly realistic- but at one point I realized I couldn't render skin tones properlySo I went for the dog instead and gave it more of my time.
@AubreyOwley
Thanks for the response. Yeah, I like that pic too, but its too flat, and there's pretty much no depth.
So here comes my newest work. Its real rough, done in one and half hours or so, so it doesn't really much detail. It was mainly an exercise to create some kind of ambience and make give the viewer an opportunity to tell their own story with the image. I purposefully exaggerated the perspective and many other elements.

Hey, thanks a lot for your post on my sketchbook, sorry that i didn't notice it until now.
I think your studys are great and i like the clean lines. In the later Photoshop paintings you might want to consider using harder brushes, makes it look less digital.
I love these peeps.
Love the latest update Milad.
You got what you wanted this time; I love the way you've used a range of sepia looking colour for this one, the tone's brilliant and keeps things simple and more effective than if it was completely rendered.
MOAR!

Hello again! Your last posts have been very interesting- good use of colours + composition?
Anyways, keep up the good work!

Oooh lotsa uploads
Like I said earlier, Love the velvety fur on the dogTrue they may not look entirely like their movie selves, but you've got the lighting looking great..
The next upload with the silhouettes, again, lighting's looking good.. Especially liked the objects on the shelf and the frames on the wall.. Thought the kid looked kinda weirdHer shadow doesn't correspond with her shape too well, guess that's why.. Did you use gradients here? How'd you bring that lighting effect in it?
Sketches looking good, love the one with the people.. You're good with drawing the leaves!Coulda worked more on the dog's legs though.. Our profs would always say don't use shading as means to cover up errors in a drawing
Miss the mindless chats :/ I've gotten into trouble with attendance in class.. So no choice but to go and rot, do absolutely nothing, from 10-4.. 12 to 4 actually.. 10-12 is trying to get myself to get ready and go O_o Visiting the library more nowadays.. Got some good books![]()
@Sharon
Oooh, Thanks for the reply!
I noticed it was a bad piece of work AFTER I thought I finished the image. And rather that site there and try to fix it, I jumped onto my next visual. Anyway, that lighting was easy. I had an overall gradient mask with a Blender more as the topmost image. I selected a rough shape of the door (freehand) filled it and feathered the edges. Then I passed the image onto Paint.NET and blew up the highlights and decreased the shadows using the Glow option in it (I don't like the Glow option in Photoshop). Thats itThe next upload with the silhouettes, again, lighting's looking good.. Especially liked the objects on the shelf and the frames on the wall.. Thought the kid looked kinda weird Her shadow doesn't correspond with her shape too well, guess that's why.. Did you use gradients here? How'd you bring that lighting effect in it?
Guess what? The dog's leg WAS like that xD I mean, it was a crippled oneCoulda worked more on the dog's legs though.. Our profs would always say don't use shading as means to cover up errors in a drawing

Nice updates here. As for critiques, I would say to avoid using pure white in your digis, it gives images a very fake, plastic look which is something you should avoid. Keep posting!
wha! good updates! love the latest work![]()
Howdy! Thanks for buzzing through my sketchbook! I came through to see what you've been up to, but you haven't updated in nearly a year! I like all your life drawing and such, but im going to hold off on a critique until i can see some of your newer work!
Hope all is going well, i'll check back soon for some new art![]()
Its been a year since I last posted D: I got too involved with other activities, hectic academics and using all my spare time learning the guitar. Gah- I've done a fair bit of sketching and drawing during this time, but was too lazy to scan over to CA. Darn. Uploadin' to FB is so darn easy
Anyway, here's a few digital stuff I did recently. As in the last few months.
The first 4 are some images I did for junior to as part of an architectural design competition. The water looks bad, I know, but they wanted the pool to have some focus, and time was too little to make it look better. Base model was made in Blender 2.5, rendered in Yafaray and painted over using Photoshop. I still prefer Gimp and Mypaint for some reason, though I like the selection tools in PS.
The next 3 titled 'Hope', 'Confession' and 'Light' are some of the comparatively better images that I made as a b'day gift for a friend, a few months back. Entirely done in Gimp, except for the grass background, which I ripped off Google
"Chemistry" is a fantasy tale about the relationship between a Kiwi and a Robot. Although visually simple, its conceptually a collage of a wide variety of my ideas / concepts. My attempt at Blender's Hair system is a mess. Blender and Photoshop.
"Goodnight, Dear Giant" is my version of one of my favourite scenes from my all time favourite animated movie, The Iron Giant. After watching it for supposedly the 200th time, I felt compelled to make something dedicated to these two lovely characters. Done with an Intuos and Gimp patched with David Revoy's awesome brush kit.
Hopes this fairly big post makes up for my lack of updates![]()
Sharon must've seen some of these updatesDon't scream at me x(

WHOA!!!!! yours paintings look really good........ well I dont think you need any suggestions from me........ =D
Nice paintings you've got here.
I suggest you try to using some hard edged/textured brushes for blending as well.
Keep painting![]()
O.o When did you get so good at painting??! D: Ahem.. I mean, yeaah I've seen about half of those earlier, but I'll excuse you since ur back to posting now
And that's a cool concept! Did you put in all the coconut trees to show that its the homeland?Don't have much critique, I guess you know where you have to improve.. You're good with the textures.. Aand anatomy could use some work if you have time for it
Keep going!
Post a snippet of you playing the guitar next time?![]()
The paintings look great! keep at it!
