Wow. Big improvement from the first page! Your studies look really good - there's some great stuff going on in here. (You have a really nice style when you do your figure studies, especially.) Also, really like the last piece you've did with the ogre. Nice lighting!

Keep up the great work! ^_^

@Riley Stark: Thanks, now that I check through my earlier pieces, you're right, even I see an improvement, especially in the lineart.

Talking about lineart, I have some new nude sketches:

Really appreciate the Ogre Monk process. Always helps to see how a good artist still needs to change and adjust their piece as they go along.

    Keep up the good work!

I really like your figure studies, they're simple yet very solid.
The Orc painting turned out very good, specially the coloring! Great job!

It's an Ogre, not an Orc !...but still thx everyone. ^^

Some master-studies on colour for now.
I felt like I have trouble picking or arranging colours for a piece, so even simple copying of the old masters will propably already help. No colour-picker allowed !
Only to check on specific colours when I dont get them myself.

So what have we here ?

Recently there was a fanart contest for the upcoming Diablo 3.
It was titled: "Portrait of a hero" and was about drawing your hero from Diablo 3.
I decided to go for the monk.

Here's what I send in: A day or two more for the deadline would have been nice, but than again, I did participate as a practise for my skills, not to win.

1-2 days later I ended up with this version, which already looks much better. Right now I'm stuck though. I'm happy with how it turned out, but I still wonder if and how I could impove it some more.

    @monstertree:
Thanks, I think sketches have to be presented in a ,at least in a viewable, way.
After all, it's supposed to be fun for the visitors of my sketchbook to look at.

And I'm working on my ogre again. The anatomy still isnt right, but I'm geting better every time.
    I'll post something again later.

@Chermilla: Thx, I should do some more of these I guess.

After reworking the ogre, my diablo piece needed a bit of tweaking as well.
Looks quite good now, I'd say.

Really enjoyed going through your sketchbook. Such a big variety and all done at a high quality. I really like the time you take on your studies (I learned quite a few things from them) and working on the ogre.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean with "hard surface stuff".
If you mean rocks or texture studies, than it's a no.
I'm still fighting my way through understanding the human forms better.
It's coming very slowly and I'd need a book explaining how to construct the eyes with the fleshy parts around them and a complete guide on human planes onm the body.

I think Jarrad meant "man-made" ... like vehicles or environment or buildings... like what Scott Robertson does and teaches.

Possible...but that would be a no again. I'm not into Mechs, vehicles and such stuff, for now. I'm still conentrating on the human figure.

I really liked the free lessons by Riven Phoenix. These solid point by point construction plans are exactly what help me. I tried Bridgeman and Loomis before, but both kinda miss out this point that makes my head go "check".

Are there other artists that have a similar approach like Phoenix ?

Hey, I noticed your icon, is that a guar? From Morrowind? 'Cause it's adorable and looks like one, if with a longer tail.

Anyway, you've been working for a while on the ogre and the D3 piece and your dedication to both show. The ogre's pose, I think, looks like he's about to teeter over because of the way his legs are -- if you tried to pose like that IRL it'd be hard to balance. (Or, maybe that's just me. ) But the colours are great and I love the detail on him.

The composition on the D3 piece is excellent. Right amount of contrast and so on, and the glow on the weapon is rendered beautifully.

@Claudio Grassi: Thx buddy, I always apprecitate kkind words.
@Umbravita: Nope, not a guar. It's inspired by a creature from Shaun Tan's "The arrival"

And a new sketch, just for fun and to practise a different approach to painting.

Hey, that new one looks pretty dynamic! The colours and style are great. It looks a little unfinished, are you going to refine it a bit more or leave it as is?
