Copied a drawing from Classical Drawing Atelier in my moleskin.

This was done from Juliette Aristides book Classical Drawing Atelier. I copied the copy of the Charles Bargue drawing that was printed in the book. It was good experience in practicing precise drawing.

Thanks a lot guys. I'll be honest, I have never put so much time into a single sketchbook page before this. After purchasing a new moleskin and wanting to start out the book with a bang I decided to do something that would test and push my skills. And it certainly did, but the mileage I got out of it and the satisfaction of completing it was worth it. And the lead holder was fantastic for rendering intense detail in a small space and the 2B lead stayed sharp for awhile. Lastly, I have waaaaaay more respect for Charles Bargue now. That man obviously had Jedi draftsmanship skill, but must have also had incredible patience and motivation to complete so many drawings.

Once again, thanks for the compliments guys. This drawing took many hours to complete and therefore was handled over many sittings. Every square inch took a couple hours of rendering with the lead holder. When drawing with the tool I lightly pressed and built up the rendering slowly. There was never a time that I pressed down hard when beginning an un-rendered area.

Here is a picture of me and the drawing. I propped the book up with a table easel so that the book was flush with my vision being head on. Had the book been laid down on the table the natural perspective of the book would have thrown my drawing off. I began the drawing with a light brown Col-Erase pencil and blocked out the figure and paid very careful attention to my angles in my preliminary drawing.

Thank you for the comment. And I certainly would be sad as well should this drawing get smudged... Which is why I spray fixed this page before ever closing the sketchbook on this page. Spray fixing the drawing took a little detail out of the rendering but will surely keep it safe. I have noticed that the first thing people want to do when I show them any kind of artwork is that they immediately want to run their fingers on it.

Thanks Virg and Spreggo. And Virg, Juliette Aristides book is truly amazing. Also, check out the book Charles Bargue and Jean-Leon Gerome: Drawing Course. It is absolutely LOADED with Charles Bargue drawings. That book is the bomb, ArtRenewal.org listed it as a highly recommended item to pick up.
