[The Blue Pill]

Man it seems the more I've tried to learn about art's fundamentals, I have gotten worse at actually drawing. Does anyone recommend anything to help my construction drawing(contour) get better other than practice. It seems like I'm just practicing alot but getting nowhere my shading is getting better while my drawing is getting worse. Please Help! I am getting WORSE the more I practice.

Like most things in life, when you abandon your old comfortable habits to try to learn new, better ones -- of course it's hard at first! It gets worse before it gets better. That's life. Keep drawing and studying and you'll be fine.

I second that.. the same thing happened to me, just stick with it... construction is more than a way of drawing really , its a way of seeing the physical world.. just stick with it, look at any free stuff u can online (trust me theres a lot) and get tips from anyone you can

Get an artists work you admire, trace it, then draw it freehand, then compare the freehand to the tracing, then correct it based on the tracing.

I am getting WORSE the more I practice.

I would think of that as an illusion, like when you suspect your train is moving when in fact it's the other one across the platform. Someone here posted this graph not long ago. It was made by Marc Dalessio and I think it's great.
And along what Armando said, I'd say keep it about something you enjoy, practice ≠ chore.

You're probably not getting worse, you're likely just seeing more mistakes than you used to.

This is fine, if you can see the mistake you can fix it, the problem is when you can't quite tell what is wrong here..

To add to this;

When something looks off, that's when you use reference to help in corrections.
