Nice updates. I think the red character is really strong. The illustration, I reckon you could take the lighting up a few gears and the drama with it. The colours are fighting against each other to me they need unifying. Good to have you back!

GEB: thank you! I didn't spend enough time on this illustration and it was the first time when I did a black and white sketch first and colored it afterwards with overlay and normal layers. I'll try to apply your advise in my next illustrations

    here's some stuff from work.

Also I've made a decision to change my job (because I'm fed up with social games - I don't feel that I grow as an artist at work) but before I need to make a normal portfolio with various creatures, sci-fi, more serious character designs and other stuff. I decided to make 29 Feb 2012 my deadline. Now I have 124 days remaining I'm now working quite hard on my portfolio and I will go on.

this one needs a small explanation. I've been to Italy and I saw a huge amount of really VEY FAT KIDS on the beach. That was quite frightening.

Changing things up ey! I'm trying to find some new workflows too. Trying to use colour sooner to get some clean colours rather than the muddy ones I usually end up with... Been looking at MrDelicious SB it's f@cking mental! Check it out! Though you may cry a lot after I've only just stopped

yep, I looked through Mr.Delicious' sketchbook a while ago but I didn't pay much attention to it. Need to study it thoroughly from the first page!
I'm now watching Gnomon videos and Feng Zhu's tutorials from here http://www.artbyfeng.com/tutorials.htm There's such a long and lonely road (out of hell, lol) but I'm going to get what I want though I'll cry a lot... and I'm crying a lot now because I feel like my arms are growing from my damn ASS! >_<

thank you very much for your kind words, miss! I'll be really very happy if I go far with what I have and what I will achieve. I'm working hard now and I will work even much harder

    ---

    some new stuff from me:

these are patterns which I was asked to draw for my art class.
I had to draw 1 piece of a tiling pattern. My imagination really doesn't work that way >_<
and the dinosaur pack reminds me of that movie... "Human centipede", you know... *FACEWALL.jpg*

This is the drawing of our lead artist at work. I was asked to change the face... but I decided to change it more to make it less vulgar and... you know...
The pic on the left is not mine, so please don't comment it. It's just an example of the drawing that I had to change. The right one is mine. Yes, yes, those grey locks are damn vulgar, they make her look like... damn that english language that doesn't have the word "BUFETCHITSA" in it D: well I think those grey locks make her look really cheap and I hope that I can persuade my boss that I should TAKE THAT DAMN GREY LOCKS AWAY sorry I'm so emotional T__T

and here's my first attempt in 3D modelling, did this in Mudbox. I'm not planning to study 3D seriously, I just want to understand the form better. Completely failed the eyes area... well I'll watch some tutorials and then do better.

haha thanks a lot yes a B-Dawg is a funny name for a white girl

    ---

    well today is 11-11-11
and I consider it a good day to make wishes and define goals and whatever

thanks to Mr. Gloominati - I now know about Crimson Daggers group and their deathline challenge!
I didn't have much time to look through the thread so I googled and I found this link http://networkedblogs.com/poi9T

and here's the deathline video: http://www.livestream.com/danielsdan...b-1cdd756b0fda

I decided to accept this challenge So I have my own personal deadline on 29 Feb 2012 and Crimson Daggers deadline on 03 Nov 2012

    Goals before 29 Feb 2012:
Make a good CG portfolio with various works including environments, creatures and more interesting characters. Draw not only beautiful, but also ugly things.

    Goals before 03 Nov 2012

1.) Become much better and varied artist than I am now. Study human and animal anatomy, perspective, color theory and other stuff. Make more volumetric drawings and paintings - I think now my drawings are too flat.
Work with various textures like metal, fur, low contrast objects etc. Watch a lot of video tutorials and use that knowledge in my work. BECOME MUCH BETTER AND SERIOUS ARTIST. That's the main goal.

2.) Get a fulltime job as a concept artist in a more serious project than those that I'm working on now. No fucking social games EVER! D:<

3.) Participate in various freelance/outsource projects. I'd be very happy if they will be outside Russia.

It'd be also great to lose 5 kg (I'm not overweight, I'm just not satisfied with how I look) and start doing some sports but I won't be very upset if I don't do that, it's just some kind of dream which I don't think I will achieve.

So here I start, guys Good luck to me with all that stuff.

Woah! I can't believe I haven't seen this sb before...

That being said, you have a very nice eye for detail! (example, the eyes, hands.) And I love this last page with all the sketches and studies.

Keep it up. I'm going to be watching this sb from now on. : )

Hi again, guys. At least I've bought a new scanner and scanned all my pics.
    Take some popcorn

Here's the finished mage girl from post #97.
I know it has several problems, eg her right hand and the design of the stick... but I had no time to finish her as I wanted her to look. And thanks God my boss is very happy with this work.

Here's more work stuff - several dwarfettes.
At the end my boss said that she must look like "Lara Croft\Angelina Jolie" and no dwarf stuff like small height, big head\hands\feet\etc, dwarf is only the name... so now I'm drawing a new version of it.

You know the hand holding the staff feels like it's on the same plane as the arm behind it. I reckon if you lit the fore arm and rim lit the edge of the fingers with that globe it would help bring the hand foreward. The light would probably catch the side of her face neck and boob also

Cool studies, you've got nice sense of perspective. Geb is right there, I think it's about the shadows having the same intensity on both planes.

Hu... your stuff is very good, i see a lot of good practice here, and some really nice 2d art, do you work for a mobile game or something? post 103 is cool, specially that painting of the mage girl, but that anatomy study could use some tweaks here and there. show some more!

Thank you very much for this useful comment! Though this drawing is already used in the game, I'll make my own version of it to place it in my portfolio. What you wrote seems helpful for me, I'll try it, thanks a lot!

Thank you! The main problem in that drawing was that I understood the problem but could not understand how to solve it, GEB helped a lot with that.

Thank you! I work in a small company which makes MMO and social games, I work on 2 projects. I agree with your thoughts on my anatomy study unfortunately I don't pay enough attention to studying anatomy. I did that sketch using a photo of a muscular guy and then drew over this sketch muscles using a book... need to do more of this.

I'm going on vacation from Monday and I'll have 2 weeks for sleeping and serious work on my portfolio. Now I'm trying to make a plan for these days:

    1. Draw everyday studies of human and animal anatomy from books and photos.
    2. Finish a couple of WIPs.
    3. By the end of these 2 weeks get 3-5 FINISHED works for my portfolio. Ugly characters\creatures\environments. No women. No "beautiful" people!
    4. Draw a complicated architecture concept. It'll be difficult for me so I'm planning to spend 1-2 hours on it every day. But FINISH it by 12 December.

Hope I'll manage to fulfill this plan

    Hello B-Dawg!
Can you please answer my question. What do you do at work and how you found a work in game industry? Was that difficult?

I like your last update though the right arm on the right version (with more hair on the right side) doesn't look right for me. It doesn't finish at the right place, I mean shoulder. But it's not difficult to correct. Keep up the great work!

It's been a while since I've visited and I'm still amazed by the variety of artworks from you. Whether it's digital or traditional I enjoy looking at your works. Keep up the good work.

The albino piece is awesome, as well as the graveyard witch and the "grey" streaked sorceress.
Lovely sketchbook. Hey, what flower/tree/bush is that, where you are showing us your dreadlocks?

I love how you set your goals for yourself here, very inspiring. Maybe I should start doing that too!

Did you get a concept art job yet? If not keep going! Merry Christmas from the US!

    you are clearly goal directed

I like the subtle details you manage for example the follow through with the folds.

    nice work

    64 days - portfolio challenge | 314 days - deathline challenge!

    GEB: Thank you!

I found work using Russian game development forum gamedev.ru. I just placed my works there and wrote that I've been looking for work. It was not difficult and I did not have any special portfolio.
At work I used to draw various objects for a casual game but now I'm working on another project, where I do some concept art (we don't have much concepts in that project, only a few ones) and draw various stuff, generally pixel art. Hope you can understand why I want to change my work I want moar and moar drawing & concept art and less or no pixel art.

Thank you very much for your advise about the right arm! I'll fix that.

    luigi marchione: thank you!

zeichenwut: thank you very much for your kind words!

    in2eternity: thank you! ^_^

LA-Fairy: thanks a lot! That was sakura, I think it's kinda japanese cherry bush.

liquorbleu: Thank you very very much! That's really pleasant to know that my stuff can be inspirational for anyone. ^__^ I didn't get concept art job yet but that's more about that I didn't try to find it. I'm now concentrated on my portfolio which will help me to find new art job. I'll start doing that in March

    sombertwin: Thank you! ^_^

Okay guys... I've been away for more than a month. Some things changed. I've really been on a vacation and first week of it I spent in bed with awful cold The most stupid thing is that now I'm sick AGAIN! facepalm.jpg I definitely need to eat some vitamins and other stuff to boost my immune system...

Ok, here's some of my recent stuff. I'll show it in parts to keep the intrigue
Well I must say that I almost managed to fullfill my plan for vacation though I've been sick. I'm having another vacation from 31 Dec to 09 Jan, the plan remains the same.

And by the way, guys... Merry late Christmas to you all! May you achieve your current goals and find new ones in the year 2012!

Colored my zombie sketch during vacation. I've been quite happy with it 3 weeks ago but now I think that I need to work on the background to make this picture finished. Anyway, I'm quite proud with it!

An update on that "dwarf" girl which I did even before vacation. Now my boss brought me back to that drawing, he wants to change some stuff... I'll do it.

I think it has to be finished but now I don't know what to do with this pic so I decided to leave it for a couple of weeks.
