    IDW # 136 - Sea Plane Launcher Year 2600.

    Topic: Float Plane Launcher

Background: It's the year 2600 and humans have colonized the planet No223354. This planet is 90% water. The remaining 10% is mainly small spits of beach-like land and rocky land, the largest being approximately the size of current day Iceland. Due to the lack of land, the human colonists live on a variety of floating colonies. However, the military has deemed is nescecary to maintain a pressence on the land. Instead of creating or purchasing a new set of equipment to operate on land, they have decided to create a landing and launching platform (in essence an aircraft carrier) for their state of the art sea planes.

    Inspiration and Info:

    Brief:
    1. Design and draw a Sea Plane Launcher.
    2. That's it... now draw!

Final entries must be posted in the final thread.

I would like for it to be a land base for sea planes, not a sea base for sea planes. However it may have both land and sea capabilites if you want ie. amphibious. So no, no floating platform.

Why wouldn't they just build a carriage for the float sit on, while they use a conventional runway?

Then they need the equipment to make a runway and once they're done what are they going to do with them? Why would you build a stationary aircraft carrier for that matter? Same thing. And who said the plane had floats? Its about 600 years in the future and even as of forty years now some just look like they have the underside of a boat. You can design the plane and the carriage as well if you really want.

Alright guys, I've had a situation come up for me and I'm not going to be around for about ten days. I've contacted both Gorgonbunny and Yoitisi who hopefully will be able to figure out poll and new round for you guys. Thank you both once again.

Ok, I have sketches and singles but I need to finish them and compile them into some kind of finalized image. Here they are so far.

Good presentation of how to solve the task.

Powerful construction. Nice to have legs to make it able to clime rocky terrain.
Gues it has to walk very smooth to not make waves. I like the military approach and how the plane goes in.

sozo- I really like your concept and your execution is good... If I may suggest a few quick tweaks to help with "scale" in your image though? Add some atmospheric perspective to the background, and blur the shadow a little. It will make all the girls think your structure is larger (hur hur) and help the perspective.

    Icon

didn't think i'd get a WIP in for this, but this is what i have so far!

went with tracks for stability, i think sloshing will be a huge factor

also went with a split deck approach for landings on the top and taking off on the bottom, and went with a semi-conventional lift to lower aircraft.

the central passages would have a powerful current to aid in landing and taking off, etc

extra water is stored in side tanks which also add buffer in case of of long range strike

    blah blah blah!

    hope to add more soon!

JanJager- Very unique concept! My only crit is that the scale of the plane that is landing in the background looks somewhat large and makes it seem as if the planes have to stop and take off very quickly. Maybe making the plane smaller and moving it back further in the water would help a bit.

KarylGilbertson- thanks for the crit! Too bad I already posted in the finals thread but I will definitely remember to use that info next time I draw something that is suppose to look huge.

Legato- Nice start! I'd like to see more planes or objects in your finished piece to emphasize the scale of the carrier.
