So, I finally got to doing my own sketchbook thread. I'm really looking forward to learn from your criticism, so go ahead and show no mercy! Thanks!
My very first is a sketch from a photo of Satchel Paige, whom I heard about a couple days ago:

Already loving up your ink work! Now post MOAR
And a whale astronaut. I think the Mignola influence does show a bit, huh?
BTW, I'm using the attachments to upload the images... Is that the right way to go, or should I use links from somewhere else? Thanks!
EDIT: Righty, I read the sticky, so now I know I was doing it the proper way... Never one to read instructions through, myself![]()

Hey, Ikage!
Thanks a million, buddy! You've got a whale for your consideration right here!
Uploading is better so there isn't missing links.
I have been doing digital art for 15 years, and oil paints before that. It has been a while since I have seen a lot of mediums, but is that ink and watercolors?
Thanks!
In fact, it's an ink wash, which I later put a multiply layer on with photoshop. I prefer to first focus on value and then applying colour digitally... Never quite seem to get them right with my El Cheapo watercolours![]()
Love your stuff so far mate! love it, fantastic lively and vibrant lines. Just starting to do inking myself, soooo enjoyable! =)
Pop on over and say hi in my thread when you gots the time =)
Hi Magic Man!
I'm really flattered, thanks a lot. I recently switched from brush pen to nib pen, so basically I'm finding out how to work it in publicWhat's your current weapon of choice?
I have to say (again) I loved your process videos and how polished everything looks.. Reminded me I really should pick up on the rendering!
Thanks a lot for your kind comment!
So, I submitted this as a tee design to Threadless, and they turned it downAnyway, I'm quite fond of it, and will keep trying to score a 5 there. Now, THAT would make my day!

Alright, no mercyI love the first two! That ink/digital combo worked out really well. The last one though is dull. With green and yellow I would expect more vibrant colours. The hair should pop out a lot more. The skull is clearly off: the perspective of eye sockets and lack of teeth. The hand of the lady is also a bit akward.
Hey, Pixel Cheetah, thanks a lot for your lack of mercyThing is, I wanted to use a subdued, sort of 70's palette, and guess I ended up make it a booring one. I'll revamp it when I have some time and repost it. Thanks again!
hehe, your cartoony work looks awesome... wanna see more!
Thanks, papervampire!
And just because you requested it (and I just scanned them), here are some studies of random people in the street I did. 5 minutes tops, pentel brush pen (so the line may be a bit funny at times...)
Hello there! You have some nice stuff so far. I really love that whale astronaut.. and I never thought about doing that process. Impressive!
It came out really well. Your random people drawings are great and I love your work with the shadows. You should try doing that with different mediums sometime. Cool stuff man
I like that you're developing a distinctive style. I would experiment more with different mediums and do some more studies. You're on the right track, though.
nice! those last street studies are great! you really capture some personality with those few lines. Thumbs up for that!![]()
yo man thanks for stopping by my sb, and particularly for being honest. it means a lot. awesome work man i like your ink work a lot
Sonia Leticia: Thanks a lot! I still have a lot way to go on the live studies, but hey, that's what we're here for, aren't we? Regarding trying different media, yeah, I think I'll be giving a shot at digital painting tomorrow: it's been ages since I've sat down and been serious on it, but it's about time, I guessThanks for dropping by!
ninjacat11: Thanks, buddy! Well, I'm not sure if that's a personal style or a collection of my shortcomings as an artist, but hey, whatever it is, it's mine!As I told Sonia, I'll be doing some digital stuff tomorrow for you to check and criticize. Thanks for taking the time to write!
Vloth: Hey, thanks for dropping by! I've had a quick look through your SB, and will definitely take more time later on and comment there, but it seems you do have a great command of inking and linework, so that makes your comment specially flattering... Thanks again!
offwhite: No prob, man. I really loved your stuff, and see a lot of talent there, and I just told you the way I'd try to go if I were you. I'll keep pestering you in the future, so you can make me swallow my wordsAnd thanks a lot for dropping by... I'll be uploading a couple things in no stuff for you all to tear to pieces!

Alright, people!
So I got some photo ref and my nib pen, and got to rocking it. These are 5- minute sketches, some of which I inked later on, and they're rather... hmmm... sketchy, I guess. Anyway, no excuses: this is what I did today! I should have done more, but had to update my webcomic...
Also, as you told me, I'll be working on digital tomorrow on some of these. Suggestions?
BTW: These are just from ref photos I found round here. I sorta liked the fighting guys, because it was a chance to see some real life muscles working, but would just hate to watch a whole fight. That's me, folks...![]()

So here's when I try my hand at digital painting the Teddy boy old man... Not sure why, but I can tell something's a bit funny with him. Any ideas?
Another try at digital painting... This is some fanart I did for Bleurgh, a Spanish webcomic of a girl who shares her flat with some cute green monsters. I think something's a bit off with the color, but can't quite tell...
Hello, you're stuff is looking pretty good! Keep on working those studies.

Here's some stuff I did with watercolor, just for fun. It also reminded me just how much I hate trying to draw trees. Those guys are waaay too complicated!!
Hey cool stuff. The first guy looks a little top heavy, but the second one looks really nice, just take a better look at the wrinkles and folds. I feel you could get a more effective simplification.
The watercolor looks a little too uncontrolled. Try carefully looking for the big shapes and record those. So for the tree just look for the overall shape of the foliage and the trunk, then if you want more detail, look for the gaps and holes in the foliage, then the smaller ones and smaller ones, etc. Don't try to draw each branch right away.

Thanks for the comment! Thing is, the man had a hunch (that may sound a bit insulting, which is absolutely not my intention... Please remember English is not my native language!) I totally agree that I should work a bit harder on the creases: I'm trying to go for a more optical/less structure-based approach now, if that makes any sense...
And yeah, the watercolor is a wild beast to me. And those pines and their needles kill me, man... I'll try to look for big masses next time. It's just that they're such... abstract shapes they're hard to nail. Thanks a bunch for the comment, again!
hey man you're doing great.. i like this style since forever, but i have never actually tried to use ink.. maybe because it's gonna be messy as f**k haha.. but i might try that sometime..
well i don't have much to say, but there is a dude here in conceptart that might be an inspiration for you (or not lol).. i think he's awesome..
here is the link to his sketchbook:

Hey man! Thanks for dropping by... I tell you, if I can pull this style, anyone can! Just remember ink stains can be easily removed from your skin and clothes with warm milk
Now, that guy's SB looks amazing! Thanks for sharing it with me!
OK, so I have to do a 4-page comic with dinosaurs in it. Here's a couple sketches!
Dinosaurs! That second one is looking really cool. I'm liking the colored bg and white character. Make some more!

Great start!
You're inking is pretty interesting, especially with those studies. Now I know diddly squat about inking, but comparing those 'random people' studies to your 'fighting guys' studies, I really like the heavy inking lines in the random people.
Also, totally looking forward to seeing that dino comic.
