update
the composition and lighting is not my idea. it was taken from here http://yogfingers.deviantart.com/#/d4cbxc8 . This is another type of study where I take elements I like and incorporate it into my painting.
An album cover I am working on for my friend. this is the block in stage. looks a bit muddy

2 hr still life painting I did from life. Its tough to paint glass!
![]()
Love your environments, especially this Noah Bradley inspired piece looks great!
Glass really is hard to paint, but you managed goodI don't like the apple much, though, especially compared to the green apple you posted before. The colors are a bit too intense, apples seldom just are "green" or "red", but more of a mix/structure of different color, which then make you think it is "red", while it is not. The last apple you posted was a bit better in this regard, as you mixed some yellows and greens, not only one color.
Looking forward to the album cover, I like how cool she's sitting there with her gun!
@ Lyraina! Thanks for the generous feedback! Yea I do feel like this apple study was not as good as my green apple one. The green apple I did from a photo ref and this one I did from life so maybe thats the issue. I also did not spend nearly as much time on this study as i did on the previous. The colors were actually pretty intense because I used florecent light and it was shining very close to it. There still could be some color migration I would have to agree. I was timing myself on this so ahh I just left it as it is. Thanks!

I will be participating in the Crimson Daggers Death Line Challenge. For more info click here here.
My 365 days Goal are:
1) work on my technical skills
perspective, line, color, value, edges, ect.
anatomy, architecture, vehicle
2) do a study every day
paint from either a photo ref or life and try to apply it to my creative work
3) start making (3-5) strong pieces of sci-fi illustrations a month for my portfolio
sci-fi work/fantasy/horror is my area of interest
4) expand my vocabulary to become a better speaker
I have terrible public speaking skills and I need to start brushing up so I can present my ideas more clearly.
5) stay fit and eat healthy
I'm slightly overweight because I eat unhealthy and don't exercise enough. Healthy body = healthy mind so I am going to strive to be fit and have a good diet.
6) Network with a lot more people at the school I will be attending during Spring Semester (either SVA or MICA)
This list might go through some revisions but so far I like it how it is.
------
Anyhow, my DAY 1 started yesterday so here is my Day 2 study. Ahh not satisfied with this study! Taken from a photo ref. Still going to post it weather its good or bad cause its part of the challenge. The purpose is to show the struggle and also that not every study will be a success. I think I spent a little over 2 hrs on this.

Started doing figure studies again. I had it down before, but now I realized that im back at square one. I got to keep these figure consistent until its pounded into my brain!

Day 3
time spent: 2hrs 10 mins
I wanted to carry on further with this painting but my aim for this month is to do 2 hr studies (roughly). I could go on all day fixing my mistakes with this skull! I am more satisfied with this study compared to yesterday's.
Day4
2hr 10 min study. Not going to spend more than this amount of time on a study for the month of November. My first attempt at a metallic object. I did an armor study because I have to make an illustration for my art workshop class and its based on a story that involves a dark knight character who I will be illustrating. I have no clue how to make armor so I need to get some practice in!
Day 5
2hr 10min limit. Ahhh I need to work on you cylinders and spheres!
Day 6
2hr 10min limit study of Sargent's painting. Really hard! Wonder how such master painted beautiful paintings like this one.
crazy amount of studies man! inspiring..and i really dig the characters too![]()
@ Gibi, Thank you sir! means a lot to me!
-----
Day 7/365
2hr limit study
Pennywise fanart. Looks nothing like him. Need a lot more work to do on it!
Day 8
2hr limit study done from life. This one is for yesterday because I didnt do one! eeek! oops! ahhh Gotta do another study for today!
hey man great improvement and studies you've got going here. one thing i would say is try and think more about the volume and form of your imaginary work as at the moment its a but flat. try and pull from the knowledge youve gained through your studies. because you have some cool concepts, id like to see them really pop out. either way im sure you'll get there soon![]()
keep up the good work!
@ dog-faced, thanks a lot man! I see what you mean! I did notice that I struggle more with volume in my personal piece. Maybe ill do more 3d drawing exercises to get a better grasp of it.
-----
Day 9
2hr limit study done from photo ref. I chose to do this subject matter because I will soon be making an illustration for an art workshop class I am in and I will be making a painting of a dark knight. Since I have never drawn a knight before, I thought this would make a good practice. I really struggled with proportions in this one.
Day 10
2hr limit study from photo ref. I fought this to be a challenging painting in the sense of getting the detail down. need to make my trees look more convincing. The bank of the river had texture but I had no clue how to draw it so I left it out. I need to do alot more texture studies! The reflection of the river was also hard to convince.
Daniel from Crimson Daggers just did a crit on this and it was really helpful. Im gonna make some adjustments tomorrow and take his advice. Thanks Dan!
Day 11
2hr 10min limit study. Supposed to be me but I totally butchered it. Need to do more head studies! Gonna crack open that loomis. I did this study because I will be using the same lighting for my Pennywise the clown fan art.
I am actually starting to catch a lot of mistakes I made on the face. The left side of the face needs to go in more towards the base. The colors also need to be a bit more saturated.
Day 12
----
Concept WIP
needs to be more saturated and have cleaner edges
Day 13
2hr 10min limit study. Supposed to be me. Still not quite there. I think It turned out a lot better than my previous one. I enjoyed painting this.
Day 14
2hr limit study. Photo ref from Blade Runner the movie. At first I hated it and was about to give up but things turned around. Some of the proportions are off. I need to crack open that loomis books real soon! Heads are tough to draw!
that IT painting scares the hell out of me haha. i hate clowns. studies are looking great man! your colors are not bad dude, actually pretty damn good. would be cool to see you start working on some more stuff from imagination too, mix it up you know? anyways, thanks for dropping by my book, keep it up dude!

Some updates
The following are 2-4 hr studies.
----
2 illustration I made for my art workshop class. The one on the right is Dave Rapoza influenced.
----
11 hour study. I spent majority of the time on the drawing proportion. I need to have better planning in the beginning so I dont spend as much time on fixing mistakes. I used a movie screenshot for reference. I add some elements like the blue in the background and snow. I am still struggling with fur and need to give it a more systematic approach.

This is my set up. If you are looking for a wacom tablet stand, this is the one to get! For my Wacom Intuos4 Large tablet I bought the "Rain Design mStand - Notebook stand" http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Design-mS.../dp/B000OOYECC. It is a very sturdy stand and I highly recommend it. Some of your monitor might not be visible because of the height the wacom tablet sits on the stand. Easy solution, put a thick book or whatever you can find underneath your monitor to bring up its elevation. Other than that, it easy really comfortable to work on and does not give me any problems. Hope you find this helpful! Cheers! P.S. Sorry for the dirty tablet. Hope you look past it : {B
