Trying this out for the first time. I went for the Samael at a low point, after his wings are ripped off. But at least he's nuts and smiling about it.

about 5 hours later i have my values in. gotta do some clouds. somethings not working with the wings(besides the fact that i got lazy for the day and copied over the left to the right, ill fix that tomorrow just didnt feel right posting with 1 wing filled in and the other just a silhouette)

Ming1918 Possible Addition: adding a highlight to the eyeball blood/goo could add some depth. BTW...I love it. The fire on the wings looks really good.

Didn't like the ideas from last night, so I wanted to mix things up a bit more. I think I will probably go with the last design here. A friend of mine suggested messed up legs made of eyes so he would have to drag himself around like a snake, and I liked the idea enough to give it a go.

I might still add the snake; I might not; depends on time and feedback. I'm concerned adding a third character will take away from the "personal moment" depicted between the main two.

You should add a center of attention with noticeable more details, propably on his head and upper body.

My initial layout for Samael. In the rendering phase I want to express the contrast between his light and dark sides. Where the divine light hits him (back) he is still beautiful but in the dark shadows he becomes death.

Done on my iPad with my blood pencil (finger) lol.

i decided to take it to a new direction. this one a bit more conceptart-ish... i think! i ll have him casually striding out of one of the portals to hell. he doesnt have his wings anymore so in mockery he wears a cloak that looks like wings. i couldnt resist the eyes either but i only gave him one (instead of a belly button which he doesnt have for obvious reasons).
what do ya think?

Hi all! Been a while... having an artistic low so its always helpful popping on Conceptart for a little pick me up.

So I was pondering this Samael character... reading all the different takes on him... fallen one, red dragon, Angel of Death, etc. and I like the idea of him being in "transition". Changing from an angel to a demon as he sucks up the souls of the damned. Hes really getting into his new job...

I think this idea is much better than Pimp Daddy Samael... LOL!
I really like the incorporation of wings and eyes into the clothing (well the grommets. They look like eyes!).... rather than being literal.

And I totally didn't think about the bellybutton... duh!

For a variety of reasons, I decided to try to use photograph textures for this image. I bought myself a cgtextures account, and went hog wild downloading rock images.

Anyway, I spent aproximately 3 hours learning and creating the following image. I'd like critiques if anyone would like to spare any.
