GTFO bitch, I'm doing Art! (Update 3/22/11)

Hello everyone, my name is kendall sant. i suppose i should start one of these fancy sketchbooks as to hopefully catch a glimpse of the improvement i see everyone else here acquiring. i can't wait till i can put "please skip to the last page, my early stuff is crap" right here.

Some new stuff, the mountain (which im not happy with at all) is from ref and the rest is just mindless doodles. The color wheel is kicking my ass. I really want to work on getting more realistic colors. Before i'd just grab the bottle of acrylic that was closest to what i wanted and did very little mixing, kind of regretting it now. Hopefully doing a bunch of photo reference might help me train my mind to think more along the right terms. I'd really appreciate any tips or advice in anyone has the time.

Ehh, i suck at updating... i've just been pretty buys but that really isn't an excuse. Here are some lameish drawing i've done the past few days, i really need to make the time for myself to finish something nice up. i'll try to sneak some drawing in today at work and hopefully update again tonight.

Just a few random sketchbook pages

Lav: Thanks! I know, my lines are lacking terribly... maybe trying to draw more in pen would help? I really love your sketchbook btw! Teach me your lines!

Just a quick update, random sketchbook page i scribbled out instead of doing my job! woot!

Some really interesting drawings going on, I like it.

Course, I'd like to see some hard-core studies too, since I see some anatomy errors in that woman you drew.

    Keep up the good work!

About the lines, i think everyone elarns it in a different way, what helps me is to try and draw some really fast sketches with a pen. But you look like a fast learned, your update is looking really good!

@ Forrest_I Thanks man, i really appreciate it. you have some crasy sweet sketches yourself!

@ Naidy Yea, i do need to sit down and really focus on my anatomy, it's a frightening concept though ha ha. Tomorrow i don't work so i'll pull up the posemaniacs site and start the slow process of burning some human figures into my mind ha ha.

@ Lav Thanks! It means a lot coming from you, i love your sketchbook!

Here is a really quick/lame update before i go to work. Spent about and hour and a half on it. Maybe i'll do some more on it tomorrow, not really sure how im liking how it's turning out.

@Ikeman! Appreciate it man, a very fine start to a sketchbook you have yourself! Hand with lips? maybe my paintings are more abstract than i thought, i don't recal posting anything that would fit that description ha ha.

Just another dumb update. where does all the time go? more drawing tomorrow for sure! just some faces from imagination.

Do studies dude. Learn facial anatomy. Don't spend more than an hour on each study. Buy the vanderpoel anatomy book. Also the Peck book. Copy every single thing in each and you'll be 1000 times better. Just dont give up. If this is really what you want to do, go out there and kick ass.

@isso09 Thanks for the advice man, i actually was just given a copy of Vanderpoel's book and i love it, i defiantly need to spend more time on studies from it though. i'll look at Peck's book next payday.

Just a quick sketch tonight, i've been so hella crasy with work and some commission stuff that i can hardly find the time i need to on studies and sketches for myself. Ahh, that's a cop out, the time is defiantly there and i know where it is i just need to make myself do it!

@ Lav: Thanks! it's just pencil and acrylic. It was actually reffed from a pic of Ellen Page

So me and a few of friends and co-workers have each decided to take on the task of starting up a blog and updating it everyday, i will be doing a self-portrait everyday.

Sadly, it is going to be a huge task to jump straight to drawing everyday but it is a change I need to make so any encouragement would mean the world to me

A quick doodle while listening to God Is An Astronaut. It's nothing amazing but I had fun doing it and I learned a lot. I just need to build up my confidence in my drawing about +100 points. I think that is, debatably, one of my biggest hurdles at this point. Thanks for looking!

Looks like you've posted a fair amount since I last checked. I'm liking the still lifes.
I think there might still be a weakness in your faces though, you've got a good eye for detail, but I think you need to start thinking about how the features relate to eachother in size and what sort of forms lie around the features too. I have the same problem myself sometimes, but if you neglect the areas around facial features, they appear to be stuck on a flat board.

But I think you're making progress, just keep on working and setting yourself small goals.

@ Velocity Kendall - Thanks man! I appreciate the support. I'm glad someone else beside me is nerdy enough to play The Game of Life ha ha, my interest in it has gone under appreciated for far too long!

@ Naidy - Thanks for the advice! That makes a lot of sense, I'll have to put more focus on it in the future. I'll post another SP I did a while ago that I think looks a lot better and is a better representation of how most of my portraits turn out. The one I put up on the 15th was done really quickly. Tell me what you think and thank you so much for the advice.

Did some more work on the painting from a few days ago. I think I'm done with it now, I'm really excited about how it turned out. I should have paid a bit more attention to the lighting but aside from that I'm pretty happy with it. Onto something new! Please tell me how I can continue improving! Thanks!

People who dont think turing complete 2dimensional cellular automatons are probably the most interesting thing people have ever created are just boring.

Try Genepool 6 and DanBall Powdergame, if you have a year or two to completely destroy

Very nice sketches mate!!! Keep up the studies.
In color when u try to bring up the tone dont use only white (and the same goes for shadows and black) Adding white or black desaturates the color, the color tends to grey.
Do some studies by using photography or something to check how the things around u appear with more light, what happens to the color and stuff
    keep going mate

Nice pencil sketches! Watch the perspective in the last painting, the one with the flowers and candles.

    Keep up the good work.
