quest for improvment :D!

hi all,
My name is Linda, i am 26 years old, and im from Croatia.
for some time now i have been only lurking around this place seeking inspiration from all these amazing artists that post here, occasionally commenting here and there.
And I've been trying to find courage to open my own sketchbook. For some time I was extremly unmotivated to draw or paint. I figured if i open up a sketchbook i might regain my motivation to draw and paint and update at least once a week, but preferably every day !
All coments and critique are greatly apreciated, i am here because i want to become a better artist, so please dont spare me.

ah anyway here are more updates.. practicing is hard ^__^
i concentrated a bit on hands, i opened up my good old burne hogarth book for some guidance,
also discovered i need to work more on portraits, hands and feet. on the last one i spend 45 min just doing the foot.. ugh--
and also decided that i will make a shedule: practicing during week, doing fun sketches during weekend

ah here are some small updates, i have been really busy these days and im very sorry i couldnt draw more than ;_; but here it goes..

first one was done with reference book called: comic artist's photo reference: people and poses

second and third are done without reference, but im planning to work more on them WITH reference

and the last one is referenced from the cube book about earth.

i concentrated in learning a proper skintone, and i will proabably continue working more from imagination on the next one, to see if i learned anything these past few weeks

here is a bit more progress, few days ago i made a sketch of the woman looking in the mirror and decided i want to develop it further, so im posting the progress, comments and critique are always wellcome, i drew it all without reference so its not as good, but im trying to remmember as much as i can.

i wanted to relax by drawing natural stuff like grass and ground..

on the last one i decided to practice more skintone. her face looks off =_= i cant figure it out what it is.. is it her lips??
ill proabably work more on it.

Interesting to see how you work. I see you rather go from section to section rather than working on the whole thing continuously. Your poses are really dynamic as well, need to find out how you do that.

ancientdrake: well.. it depends on the day, sometimes i want to focus on one detail, sometimes i want to lay colors first and do details last.
especially when i work on backgrounds, i love painting nature.

LA-Fairy: thank you ahah well if you like it you can use it^^ i dont know when ill finish it, im exploring too much things at once atm XDDD


here is some more progress,
i was reading some greek mythology and came across a story about Artemis, Orion and Apollo, the hawt one is Aphrodite XD. i imagined Artemis to be really childlish, messing up Orion's hair. too bad he ends up getting shot by her :/

hmm i dont feel like painting in pshop lately,i like pencil too much atm

also i was few days away to my grandma's house in the countryside so i decided to train my brain with traditional painting.

Love how the lady in blue is progressing, but I feel the position of the hands on the gun (?) looks a bit awkward. But maybe it's just me.

Hehe it's probably just the pose, what make it awkward~ I just tryed to hold it like her, it hurts a bit, but could be because I am so stiff XD.
Your sketches are beautyfull! Just on some poses you can see some errors in shortening the limbs in the space. But knowing your other stuff, you would surely fix it if you want to finish it =).

Klaus Reinbach III: thank you yeah i need to practice foreshortening like crazy these days, i only just started practicing dynamic poses few months ago, so im still a noob, learning is difficult and progress is slow but eventually its getting there
you are proabably right, ill try to re-pose the whole figure, ill try with a ref this time. thank you so much for your crit

Sulphur: thank you so much hahaha well i saw it in a game called Dragonica, they have a hat like that there XD its so cute i wanted to draw it XDDD


here is another sketchie, i had fun working on it tonight, i might refine it if i find it interesting enough in the morning^^
its a good old memory from when i was playing diablo2, about 2 years ago it left a huge impact on my artistic development i learned to draw many things that i never dared to try, such as metal, armors, weapons and skulls. i decided to try and redraw 2 of my favourite characters all over again

5:30 am here so its sleep time for me XDD

Nice progress on the b/w, I especially like the shading on the hand closer to the viewer. The hair looks a bit awkward in its movement tho, but maybe that's just me. Can't wait to see more progress!

Love your work, you are great The only thing I could suggest, maybe better to move a staff to some side off a head of this last b/w work, because now it looks a little stick to head and reminds horns. Except that I like this work a lot
