    Smithsonian, Museum of Natural History

Hey CA, Just saw this new graphic section, thought I'd share. I have a new freelance job creating most of the art, design, project management of a new web site for the Paleo Indian Dept. at the Smithsonian Institution, Museum of Natural History.

They found me through this piece of art that I created for a book cover 20 years ago. The cool thing for me is that I get to be super creative and make shamanic/ dreamlike work, and not have to be realistic. I am just beginning the project, filling up my sketchbook, making early works while I drop in over the next 6 months plus. Site to launch spring 2011.

I recently had in my hands the oldest found artifact in the Americas.... a 20,000 year old carving knife found off the coast of Virgina when a fishing boat brought it up with a mastodon skeleton.

Congratulations! The Smithsonian sounds like a sweet gig. Do you have an art director? If you do you might want to work closely with him/her. Personally I think we could steer you in the wrong direction. You are dealing with folk art. We could critique all of the folk out of it. I'm sure the Smithsonian wouldn't appreciate that. Looking at your (awesome) portfolio did give me ideas.

Create some colorful, abstract, Paleo folk art of the exhibits and make realistic highlights. Sort of like dreams coming to life.
