Hey everyone! I've realised I really don't know how to draw and I'm determined to start learning seriously.
All crits and observations are extremely appreciated!
Thank you![]()

more sketches, there is a little outdoor/indoor stuff and I started Andrew Loomis's Head drawing book and his Figure drawing book.
the animals are done from photo ref, the hands are my left
this is all I managed today:
The ball was done from imagination, trying to do some "value". I'd never really tried it before. I tried to do the same with the mouse, just noticing the bigger "blocks" of darkness and lightness and distinguish them properly.
the little bits on my desk helped me see how hard i find it to draw simple smooth lines and things with proper perspective
could anybody give me some pointers? anything is helpful, thanks
i got deflated and demotivated the past few days but today I was back on my hands.
I did some more loomis heads, and then some figure poses while watching Appleseed (Which I didn't like and I soon realised wasn't any good for poses because they make the legs ultra long and the torso extra short; but I noticed the nose-eye to ear proportions were still right).
I then did some from Jackie Chan's Legend of Drunken Master movie
I realised that when drawing from life I have the tendency to try and quickly scribble and bang something out without really looking at it. I guess this comes from a strange idea that you have to draw real subjects in real-time (and since they move so quickly you have to kinda bang out the lines). But I guess the real trick is to observe well, and then just carefully put a few lines right where they need to go? I'll practice that.
Nice start! Some of those hands look very good and the pencil work on the animal sketches compliments the hair and form nicely! For learning perspective, I think there's some very good exercises at the first lesson of environmentoring. Keep the Loomis studies coming, they'll do you lots of good.![]()
smuli: thanks a lot man! I'll take a look at that thread, it looks really good. Loomis, will dooo
a tiny bit of this guy (my opinion of which has now changed): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AP5VIhbJwFs&feature=fvw
and some fun guitar stuff , first is regressive teenage fantasy thanks to some old hardcore band i used to like,
second is thanks to isis and pinkfloyd and is regressive present-day fantasy

Hey AKS, thanks for your comment on my sketchbook. You should link yours in your sig, I had to dig around to find it!
Really nice work you've got going on, keep it coming! I love the animal drawings especially.
inimic youre welcome, and thanks. good idea about the sig, I'll do that
did some poses from posemaniacs yesterday, and I worked on the perspective tut, I'll upload that later
Great start to your sketchbook here! I would give some advice but I'm fairly inexperienced. I say, keep going!
That's all i can say, too. Keep it up!
I hope you get a lot of useful comments (well, more useful than this one) and stay motivated!
Take a look at my SKETCHBOOK to help me improve and take your jobs!!!
Stolensky: I guess I know the feeling! same to you!
kraeutemall thank you! so far motivation is on high mode
not uploading, but still drawing:
(loomis heads, 2point perspective as per smuli's recommendation, and some foundation shape practice...)

cylinder chain from imagination to practice basic shapes, guy from posemaniacs, and the hands are from imagination (with occasional lefty reference) and turned out way better than i was ever able to do from imagination before starting this sb
its only been 5 days since my last update yet it feels like two weeks.
I've done loads of figure sketches, so I'll just upload the "better" ones.
I've noticed that after some time, I start to understand the shapes better and get a sort of intuitive grasp on how the body is shaped, each drawing session it gets slightly easier for me to "get" this.
Yeah! The figure studies look great! I should do more of these too. I also noticed that every day it's getting easier to do the forms and proportions right. Feels fine!
Take a look at my SKETCHBOOK to help me improve and take your jobs!!!
kraeutemall: thanks buddy. are you using posemaniacs.com? very useful. progress whooo
a bunch more poses, im not uploading them all because theres just way too many and nobody is actually gonna look at each one
also i finished off the 3-point perspective that was suggested by smuli, and some quick life stuff
when is ca going to bring in a batch uploader??
any crits at all very welcome
2nd bunch:
very nice posemaniacs...
the drawing.. of the guy drawing.... I hope you know which I mean... his head seems a little small for his body (sorry if anyone's already said that. My computer is very fragile, and anything can cause a blue screen, so I'd rather not scroll all the way up again to count uploadsgotta get it sorted..) anyway yeah, small head. Of course maybe the guy HAS a small head in real life... I don't know.

- "She is a suggestion, as I have said, of a new manner. I find her in the curves of certain lines, in the loveliness and subtleties of certain colours."

"critique needed!!"
Dipz108 aaah yes, he does. that one is copied from a photo, and i ended up doing the body after the head, and it got progressively larger. keen observation, thanks!!
you're welcomevery good idea to always start with the torso (unless the reference is at an awkward angle or something)

Sooooo next update.
During the month of august I've challenged myself to learn basic anatomy, and be able to draw basic poses from imagination more or less correctly. We're now halfway through August, and I can already kinda-really-noobishly do it, much more than I could only two weeks ago. Feels like ages ago, but post-dates on the sketchbook don't lie, which I guess is one of the benefits of having one.
Some of these are from imagination, most from observation. And I really wish I could comment each image inline, instead of having them all miles away down at the attachment section.
Any criticism or tips on where to focus to improve is veeeryyyy much appreciated.

some more from yesterday, a balance between stuff from imagination and stuff from observation. this first image is all imagination, yeeeeh
Your studies are really good, you've improved a lot! That colored hand is one of my favourites![]()
Keep those studies coming! I like how you're making sure you study anatomy, perspective, and basic shape drawing. I need to do the same! Where do you get your Loomis heads stuff from, I have no idea where to find it!?
Keep going![]()
in2eternity: great to see someone else who thinks I've improved, it's not just me! Thanks a lot
StolenSky: Hey again, I got the Loomis stuff for free somewhere, they're apparently legal to download. I've been using his book "Drawing the Head and Hands". Here's a link I found with a quick google search: http://www.placidchaos.com/AM/index..../andrew_loomis
And this lil tutorial got me into taking the basic shapes seriously http://www.autodestruct.com/thumbwar.htm
Hmm nice studies you have here. I specially like the hands
Nice work, keep it up... Oh and thanks for the links, i was looking for something like that
you are doing grate , try draw more objects

zat: thanks a lot! glad the links are useful
ranubafshari: yep, i gotta work on that. i spent a while here doing lots of circles and elipsis xD its hard.
got addicted to sc2.. me and my 2v2 buddy got qualified into bronze league, woop
so i actually went an etnire day without drawing and breaking my streak (which had kinda been dwingling with sc2, not doing full hours on posemaniacs) so I braced down and did 10 pages for two hours this morning
so heres some stuff from the last days and some of the posemanics. my sb page is starting to look like one big bleak sequence of posemaniac studies -_- and i think ive gone through all the poses, its been a while since I come across I don't recognise. guess that means i should break out and start doing less pm and more from other sources
i adjusted levels on some of the ones with lighter pencils for clarity
robot hands are from hodong la's http://hodongla.cgsociety.org/gallery/895431/

wow amazing studies, love the hands
keep it up, want see more![]()
thanks zat! more hands soon
back to drawing everyday.
anatomy august is over, time for faces now
i more or less have the super basics of positioning face elements on a head, so im going to go through facial features, then back to face positioning, then drawing lots of faces.
Noses oh noeses!
