having a ton of fun doing these imagination characters. im doing imagination-figure work that i didn't have the ability to do at all just a month ago. as amateurish as many of my figure studies look, they've given me a small foundation on which to build some imagination stuff, and it's been lots of fun

tree from life,
tried a quick value painting from imagination
and prog on char

got work and haven't had much time to paint the past few days, but i spent some more time on this study
i was thinking of doing some very light mentoring to anyone who thinks they could benefit from it
this would be for beginners who would like a helping hand, if there is something you see in this sketchbook which seems slightly out of your reach and would like some help on working on the basics.
send me a pm if you're interested! all free of course, and through instant messaging or whatever is most convenient. my timezone is europe GMT+1
sunday, a little bit at a time

almost done with this! won't take it to a highly detailed finish. i really want to be doing a higher number of figures, getting fluent, and faster. i can see that its possible to do anything if you go slow enough, i need to do much more iteration to really get some of these things memorised. long studies like this are useful but only a small part of the picture of being able to draw and paint figures from imagination

Wow.
I don't know what to say, other than you are truly inspiring and that I hope to be at least half as good as you some day. Some of your digital paintings made me question whether or not I was looking at an actual photograph or a painting. And your work seems so alive and natural. People like you inspire me to work harder. Because, I mean, damn that's incredible.
Aves: Wow to you too Aves, I've been thinking of something meaningful to say but there's not much I can say except, thank you, your comment inspires me in return and I hope we both take this inspiration and make the most of it

getting closer to finishing this at last ~
I've subscribed now so I get to see it finished![]()
oh no!![]()
Aw yeah, so now you better finish, or I'll be really disappointed, and then you'll have to live on with the knowledge of having disappointed somebody! Real bad! :0
eh, this'll do for now. subtle changes, mostly skin freckles and hairs, etc.
some crap in spare time
![]()
Really nice with the imperfections on the guy, can't wait to see where it's going. Are you also going to continue on the second one you posted?
I think if you'd render the "crap in spare time" drawing more, it would look coolanyway, nice progress. I admire your patience with the naked guy study. When I paint I usually want to finish the piece while its still "fresh", I think painting one guy for this long would surely kill me
keep it up!
thanks guys. i wasn't planning on doing any more with that last monster thing, i tried rendering it the same day i sketched it out but it turned out too terrible to post here. i might give it another shot for practice
i squeezed in two comp studies, and some imagination comps based on the colour palette.
not happy with the first two, i think things started to come together with the larger landscape at the bottom
and then some comp and sketch stuff

Giant came and placed his amp on top of castle to rawk on his flying v, what is not to love? :0
I'm determined to start learning seriously.

great studies! keep it up want to see more!
thank you guys ~
based off second-to-last sketch in previous post
Chyeah buddy! Sick progress! Your figure drawings have improved so much, and your digital studies are excellent! Rock'n roll!
thanks whizzkid! BWARGH. limits. fek.
ggrrrrrrr
WIPPPPPPPPPP
actually i guess fig drawing has helped even with this stuff
painter 12 is fucking amazing you guys
any of you on twitter? im going to start posting and sharing stuff and it would be nice to connect with other people on there, i'm not in touch with anyone really
add me whoever you are!
@000aks

I only have photoshop elements 8(Got it for free with my wacom tablet years ago). Luckily Autodesk offers their software for free if you got a student mail. :U
I do hope you continue on this one, 'cause I can't wait to see this piece finished. I mean, that's some badass char you're working on.
Don't have twitter, because I'm a weirdo who likes to join popular things years after it goes mainstream, and after being hassled to a sufficient degree by family and friends.
i am really into this piece, it has a future
thanks a lot aves
there's something to be said for minimal painting apps, i'd be curious to play with some. i'm actually fascinated with painting software, more on that soon....

She seems to get more and more otherwordly as you progress. What colours do you think you'll use? Or is it gonna be greyscale?
And have you tried Sketchbook Pro? If I remember correctly it's very barebones(atleast compared to photoshop). When I one day earn the big bux, I think I'll invest in Adobe's master collection. I wouldn't mind having a pro version of photoshop, illustrator and the other what-have-you-nots. :p

ive been somewhat busy, but still drawing every day
i really want to make time to connect with more of you guys here on CA. sometimes it really feels like im just here spamming away all alone on my sketchbook, getting the odd visitor stopping by, but not really connecting with much.
nice to see you here regularly, aves. i have tried sketchbook pro, but not very much. my first impression was pretty good though, i should give it another go. i really like painter 12, ive been wanting to get into it for a while but i found it daunting. after giving it a more patient test, ive sort of fallen in love, i must buy more RAM so i can run it better. the symmetrical sketch ive been doing in the past few posts is done in painter 12, but at 4000px wide i get a lot of lag.
ive not really tried illustrator very much, i can't comment on that one..
as for this char, i was thinking of mixing in both warms and colds, some reds/yellows and blues/greens. very unhelpful description i know. but, probably won't stay grayscale
a small update:
and random thing which isn't finished.
