Round 94 :: The Crown

Just a note
Hi everyone, you've probably never seen me around this forum but I'm a long time lurker. I haven't seen a new challenge for over a week now and no reason why, so I thought "What the heck, I start the next one." Hopefully taking charge will allow to pick a theme I like, and make me feel obliged to actually try for once, haha. -Crrristian

Topic: The Crown
Another open theme, that can be interpreted anyway you like. You can present it as an item, the one who wears the crown or maybe even the place that holds and protects the crown. Be creative, push yourself and try something new. And most of all, enjoy yourselves!

Topic will be chosen by whomever won last week.

P.S Just a little change I want to make: When posting your final entry, just include somewhere in your post (but not your entry) the theme you'd pick if you win. That way there isn't a delay or problem in picking the new theme!

Lemmingwing, I really like the idea of having the gaping head of a bizzare creature as a head ordament!

allright, well, I have began blocking in the colors for my entry, I will begin rendering it shortly... I'm working around the idea that this is the chief of a remote island tribe, a tribe that holds it's ancestors in great reverence... they tell stories of the time when their ancestors flew accross the sky in great birds supported by gas filled turtle shells, and fantastic spears that shot clouds of hot vapor at opposing forces... as well as the day many hunderds of cycles ago when the bird of their forefathers fell from the sky and dies near the coast of what is now their island home...

each new chief dones a headdress featuring the last surviving remenant of their glorious ancestors. rumors claim that a substance like solidified water once coated each round orafice, but they cannot possibly be true...

Been so damn super busy lately I had no time to even post up here. I was also waiting on the previous winner to toss up a new theme but this is as good as any.

Exasm Aaahh! That's adorable. I love the expression on the dog, maybe work on making the cup seem a little rounder? It looks a tad too flat at the moment. But it's looking good! =)

can anybody help me out and draw a little sketch for me ( my ideas of the theme,not the sketcher) cause i want to paint it, and i cant make a sketch with a mouse ????

Btw we have to make everything including the sketch ??

@ Ban Kai, maybe you can try to draw a sketch by hand and scan it.
did it myself cause I too think its to hard to draw a sketch with a mouse

nice idea but i am not so experianced at drawing things with the consideration of proportions( thats why i allways use other members sketches, well i do lineart of manga but thats different.

Perhaps Ban Kai, trying on your own once or twice might get your further in the long run?

I'm not sure if anyone other than me is going to be able to tell what on earth this sketch is saying, but the blob on the ground the guy is staring at is a toupee and the stuff in the foreground is a purple velvet and ermine cloak.

Here is my WIP of my take on "Crown". These are the mushroom fairies of Elftree valley. Mushroom fairies grow in small groups together and vary in size and shape. The largest top is called a crown which adornes the leader of their group. Hope this still fulfills the requirements of this challenge, if not let me know. Any critique or advice would be great!

Lemmingwing: the crown and character are verry cool, and honestly quite creepy. i like your style

Miki Tikus: keep it up. my only crit would be that the crown dosnt seem to be the focus of your piece, rather your character

@skyline: thanks for the comment. cant really say much to your first sketch but i saw what you did in *streets of babylon* and after that, i got the highest expectations^^

Lemmingwing I liked the progress of your piece although I think the final loses some of the awesome styling you put into the character. I understand this may be to bring the viewers focus more on the crown which is completely understandable. Very unique idea!

Zypherex Your piece has an epic feel about it that is incredible. A little more shading in the eyes I think would make it more realistic but as they are it really pops! Can't wait to see the final.

Question... Should I try and just finish the lineart or maybe shade all in black and white or what. I'm not sure if the requirements are color or not but I don't think I'll have enough time to do everything I want to it. I'm thinking of just finishing the lineart and then making it look like an entry in a magical field guide book or something.

Hii everyone, I'm so glad to see you're all inspired by the topic.
Anyway... I probably picked a bad week to start things, because I'm leaving for vacation tommorow.
Now, it's very likely I'll have access to a computer, but just incase, could someone set up the finals thread?

P I really loved the colors on your piece, It brings a childish charm with a slight bit of "offness"... very cool!

Lemmingwing I actually thought that the stylized disfigured hand really added to the piece. Either way I greatly look forward to seeing your final piece. Hope to see more work from you on upcoming challenges!

I hope to be able to finish the linework on my piece by tonight which I'll post but I think in order to do all the things I want to do I'll work on it past this deadline. I'm thinking that the root system of the mushroom fairies absorb magical energy from the earth which causes their tops to glow. This green luminance serves as a warning to potential predators not to consume their lethal tastyness. Here is the update on the linework, please feel free to critique!
