    Northern wind

Pretty much the first experience painting in photoshop, done with mouse (still waiting for compusa to get me my wacom).
    About 6 hours altogether.

alright yeah it looks pretty good for your first digital painting. the first thing that really jumps out at me... did you mean to give him two elbows on one arm?
    Be sure man

    Yeah, that was the idea.
I desided to give a little something to the traditional design.
It's supposed to be a war machine.

Your coloring job is very nice, especially for using a mouse. Even if he does have two elbows...it doesn't look natural for him to be holding his weapon that way. To me it seems as though he should be holding it out a little bit more. It could just be me though. Anyways, nice job.

dude man. looks pretty good for a mouse. not you, I mean.

to me, the best part is the axe head. you used more values there than in the rest of the image. watch out for too much black.

party on. btw, i saved 200 bucks getting my wacom on ebay.

Thanks guys, i appreciate the feedback.
The problem with this image is that i did it over a period of time taking breaks from it, 1.5 hour here and there, so i changed the plan many times. sea minus, funny you should mention the axe, it was the only part that had zero on it in the end, until i went to http://www.anry.ru/eng/gallery/gallery.htm site and got a solid dose of inspiration, not to mention motivation.
I do need more critisism though, give as much as you can and try to be specific.

Yeah, and i still can't get confirmation on my wacom order from compusa.
For crying out loud, the only reason i'm ordering from there is because bestbuy has it listed as "coming soon" indefinitely.

Damn...A mouse, u get 2 thumbs just for that. Anyways, nice coloring job my only critique on the coloring is that the the mood you are trying to seet seems very dramatic but the lighting scheme does not fit it. I'd say play around with different lighting schemes. Add some warm colors to show the heat of a battle just finished or cool colors to show the grief he is feeling way after the battle.

By creating that contrast it will push that drama back into it.

As far as it being a war machine, the multi elbow joint thing is a cool idea. However at first glass I thought it was a humanoid and the 2nd elbow threw the image off for me. If it is a war machine try to show more of the mechanics of it. Show off that elbow joint, if it were clothed maybe the cloth got ripped off in battle and his 2nd joint is exposed. For one it will give the picture the battered look and 2 it will help to show off the joints and help explain to your viewer that this is a machine with mechanisms and moving parts that i am looking at.

One more thing, i would thicken his spear a little, right now it feels like its gonna snap in to with all the robot's weight on it.

Hope this helps and hope that darn Wacom comes in already.

    Good Luck.
