    X13's Dismal Drawings. (Crits wanted!!)

Hello! I am X13, and I've been drawing for as long as I can remember. I'm pretty much self-taught, save for the drawing classes in school, and I'm looking to improve myself! As I'm new to the site, please tell me if I'm doing anything wrong. D: I'm currently fifteen, and though I could ramble on forever about myself, I'll just get on with the art! :3

Enjoy! (and feel free to critique away!)

Its good to see that your more or less studying the form of the face right now and not going off to draw totally crazy balls stuff and posting it. All improvement comes from studying really bland, boring things that take a lot of time to draw and the result is not always going to please you. But in the long run, you will be improving vastly more than some one else who just scribbles without any care to technique.

With that said, you also have to keep yourself creatively active from time to time or you'll feel like your not going anywhere and want to give up. Its a balancing act trying to take drawing serious and at the same time keeping it fun. You'll probably understand what I mean if you go into art school.

So far so good though. Your measurements are off right now, distances between eyes and the side of the head, and everything seems to be moving on a tilt. But anyways, keep practicing, you'll be really good one day!

    Also, red pandas are awsome.

I agree with panda, your measurements are off, but I can see this is not hindering the overall appearance of your faces as much as some other people's sketches are. You make up for it in the line value.

Do some anatomy studies and figure studies. Poses really help.

You do have plenty of skill, you just need a bit of practice. Actually a lot. But everybody needs practice. That reminds me...

Redpandafire: Thank you very much! I'll definitely watch for that tilt. I wasn't aware of it when I had been drawing, but looking back on it now, I can most certainly see where I erred. I'll be looking to fix that next time!

Olivepalm: Oh, I'm very glad to hear that! :3 Thank you very much for the encouragement and taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it. I'll be putting more care into my measurements from now on.

Going off of what Olivepalm said, I did some gestural drawings. I went through more advanced sketchbooks and was thoroughly intimidated/inspired. It's also good to know that I'm not the only novice on here. xD I was a little stiff at first but got more confident the more I drew. Anyway...

I find it a good habit to glimpse away from the lines that I'm drawing and make sure they fit in with the rest of the piece. It helps to see perspective problems, facial symmetry issues, etc. A highly recommended practice.

Ok so pretty much I haven't really been updating, even though I've been drawing more than I ever have before. It's crazy stuff. I just don't like uploading it here because none of the drawings are studies, even though they help me improve. I'll get some studies up soon though, I promise!

For now, here's some of my normal drawings...

derp derp derp attachment manager won't let me upload everythingggg

I'm working on that weird eye-tilt problem, and my scanner makes the lines look really light...

I'm planning on going to the mall or a starbucks with some friends and drawing people/getting some gesture drawing done. I work better when drawing things from life.

That bird is mean to me.. ....

Yowz, good start haha, digging the animals, they've got character. Dog on smokes, hell yeah!

Careful with those gestures, it's good that you're starting with them but try to simplify them by breaking down them into segments i.e Arm into shoulder, upper arm, lower arm, wrist, hand etc. Once you have found a good way of understanding the body drawing getures will become so much more fun and easy.

You've probably been told this before, but checking out Loomis and Bridgman is.. almost essential I dare say.

    gogo draw! take care

I think the maniquinnes on the figure drawing will really help you out.

and lastly, them animal studies you've been doing are awesome D: >
so Keep up the good work, I'll be watching you. C:<

Hey X13, I was drawn to you're page due to the name being what I chose for the first part of my car reg (October 13th my DOB), yeah I'm pretentious like that

Love the digital stuff, very emotive and the pencil stuff is sweet, love the flow you have with the figure drawings!

Where are you!? Have you moved profiles? Just noticing there hasnt been a post in here in over a year

    Please come back!

Sending this in hope that it inspires you to post all the awesome work we have missed out on over the past year and a bit!

    Get on it!

    Peace
