    Need help with my portfolio

Hi guys & gals, first time posting on here, need a little help with my portfolio, so far i've only got my pen&pencil stuff photoshop stuff will come later, as i lost all my previous photoshop work and i'm waiting for my new laptop to arrive. The reason i'm asking for help is i applied to Rebellion games and they replied saying they didn't have any positions which is fair enough, but also said that my work wasn't realistic enough which confused me, dunno if you guys could shed some light on what they meant by that, feel free to be as harsh as you like anything that'll help me improve and get a job I'll just upload a few for now

    thanks again guys & gals

Hey Rattle. There are a lot of good moments I see in your work. With regard to what the company said about your work not being realistic enough, I think from looking at the drawings you posted, they were mostly talking about the overall style you seem to have which is to use relatively strong outlines in your drawings with not much value variation (especially in terms of expressing overall lighting).
Secondarily, I'd say that you could work on realistic perspective and anatomy as well.

I'll second what wooblood said, your anatomy needs work duuude. Like your imagination and composition is great, but the anatomy is what's off. Try buying some anatomy books (or find free ones online. I know Loomis has at least one free one online) and study. Do gesture poses ect. ect. I think, since you are a professional, you will catch on quickly and it will add to your creativity and get youuuu a job .

Also, you need to study humans more. Do more portraits and work on just humans for a while. Your tech is good, your humans... Not as good, but not bad either.

Ditto what was said above. Particularly about the shading, it feels like you're gouging holes in your characters. Swish cheezin em so to speak. Not only does this detract from the realism, it also makes important details disappear.

Cheers for the help guys, really appreciate it, i shall definately work more on my anatomy skills and i know what you mean about the shading etc. it's more of a graphic novel type style than concept work, i'll do some more work and report back in a few days for crits if that's ok,

    thanks again guys

One further point is that if this is what you're submitting for your portfolio, it looks quite unfinished. Sketches, if you please. Sketches are great but if you're applying for a job you should be submitting your highest quality and most polished work. You'll want to clean up those scans, get rid of the dirtiness and the unintelligible notations, make them really presentable.

If you like video games design i suggest you start working on some MOD first. This could be great experience.
