    Madbot's Concept Art

Hello everyone - been painting on and off for a few years now and would love to be a concept artist/illustrator. I would very much appreciate any critiques, advice, etc, that would make my art better and help me to get into the industry. Thanks.

wow amazing work! the only thing I can critique here is the 2nd piece, i would like to see more of a middleground. the foreground is quite dark and the background is very large and light, it needs some more detail to contrast in there to fill some blank space. absolutely love 1, 4, 5 and 6. keep up the excellent work!

    Thanks for the feedback guys!

I wasn't sure if this post was successful as it took ages before I saw it published in the forums. When I saw it I realised that my pic called "The Descent" had lost it's connection with my photobucket gallery. So just to confirm you are both referring to my Dante picture and not my pic with the Sub?

great work! I love the environments!
The only thing I'm really seeing that's making some of these less interesting than they could be (especially the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th piece) is that they look either too monochromatic or the contrast between light and dark isn't enough. For instance, in the 3rd piece, I think you could bring in darker reds or even black on the skulls to bring out the bright yellow. As it is now, it's kind of hard to read the details as the colors kind of blend into each other at this point. Lord of the Rings can be your friend on this one:

Thanks for taking the time to look at my art. The suggestions you bring up I completely agree with and I can see what you mean with the LOTR pics. Funny you should post the Balrog scene as an example, it's one of my favourites (visually) of all time. I think the Balrog is just an awesome creature and whoever the lucky people were to work on him at Weta must have been pinching themselves at the opportunity.

Awesome, you're definitely on your way, keep painting, and practice painting simple forms, and try to maintain their depth from sketch through final render.

Your painting of that guy with the mask on looks like something I did a while ago haha.

My design isn't as cool as yours, but the reason mine has more depth to it is because the textures and the light / shadows curve around the form of the head (it also might help you to angle your subject at a slight angle)

I've see this a lot in people who switch from physical to digital

Try to work on depth, I think your stuff is probably going a little flat once you render it out. Focus on the form and the way the textures recede in space.

    Keep it up!
