    Faces in the crowd

Some face practice. Just ovals with practice placing the features in the correct locations. A great way to learn facial proportions without being stressed out!

    More sketches

Her's a few more sketches. I'm just using graphite on cartridge paper. I find that drawing like this gives me the quick results I like. Gonna have to get a wacom soon! Sorry about all the white space.

    Marvellous updates

The last post reminds me of Mrs Marvel. Don't know why. These sketches are fun to do, and I don't worry too much about finishing them. They're more a way of generating ideas for characters.

    Drawing from imagination

More sketches from my head with no reference. Well, I guess I've got eyes, so I must have used reference to draw these from something I've seen, or felt, or whatever. You know what I mean. By the way. Where are the pirates? Whoops!

    Mannekins and more

I find studying and drawing mannekins, the shorthand skeleton, a great aid to accurately depicting realistic figures and characters. I have to slow the pace down when i draw these, it takes time and patience to get accurate. Drawing mannekins in action poses without reference takes some doin!

Where the big girls play. And Frodo!

Hey, how did Frodo and Gollum get in here? Some more gladiatrix, with a little blood and violence. What more could you want?

    Early concepts

I keep EVERYTHING I draw except the sketches which are just warm ups and practice with proportion for faces and figures, so here are some really early concepts i had for a gladiatrix story. And yes I do have a girlfriend and a life.

The first two images are just there because I like how silhouette can so successfully suggest a pose without much other detail.

    Figures and faces

See, you didn't think could draw faces did you. The second image is a sketch trying to show the movement of a gladiatrix as she goes through her paces. Keep on drawing!

I can see that you have a decent feeling for form but your figures lack structure. Try combining your curved lines with some straighter lines for contrast. Play more with the design of your shapes to add interest. Keep it up!

    Structure vs form

Studying the structure of the human body in order to improve the quality of my sketches. Mmm drawing REAL people may help too. But its so cold outside, think I'll just have another coffee.

    Babes doin battle

These battles were very easy to draw, they just come naturally to me when i glide my pencil over the paper. I think they're a good starting point, like an initial sketch. I just draw lines and the figures find themselves. Each one takes about 10 mins. Onwards and upwards folks. Keep drawing.

    My process

The last 2 images show an battle composed from my process of merely finding the shapes on the page through gesture drawing. I've posted them in this order to show how the image develops into a final illustration. The other images are ideas for other gladiatrix characters. All using no reference. I really must use some!

Cool stuff. You've improved alot since you started. Lots of movement, rhythm and flow which is awesome! It's taking me ages to get that down.

I will pop back to make a proper comment when I don't have heaps of uni work hanging over my head. I've recently read an awesome book on gesture, figure drawing etc that you may like. I'll try to scratch it up when I have a lil more time.

    Keep leveling up. ;D

Thought I'd post something while I'm working on other things. Found these sketches I did before joining CA.org. I thought I'd post it to show my thinking at the time and compare it to what work I produce now. Its just a little sketch, but it means so much.

    Cheers.

You are brave, yes indeed you are, your poses are awesome and I really like the flow of your lines tons of potential.
now all you got to do is abuse those anatomy books and head studies, lots of work awaits so don't waste time on reading this useless reply and spend it on studying something useful!
