Icon IDW #127: The King's Bathtub

    Topic: The King's Bathtub

Background: This weeks topic is, as usual, a bit different. The challenge for this week is that your design should be aimed at a younger audience: children! Imagine you're making the design for a childrens' book, musical or movie. It does not have to be realistic, it can be as stylised as you want -just keep in mind that a child has to understand it's a bathtub still.

As for the King...it's up to you to come up with the context here. Again, it has to be clear this bathtub is for a King and not any ordinairy rich guy (and yes, if you want Elvis is an option here ).

Be aware, you are required to come up with a description to go with your entry this time!

    Brief:
    1. Design and draw the King's Bathtub!
    2. Add a description to your entry!
    3. That's it... now draw!

    Deadline: Saturday, May 8
Rounds are usually closed around noon on Sunday (GMT +2 - Amsterdam time)

As you might've noticed, IDW has a new banner! I finally got around to making it, I'm sorry for the long delay. Art was created by Daniel Clarke, who won IDW round 100!

Oh come on people! A bathtub isn't scary!

A wip from me. A raj's bathtub - I assume that can be considered a king?

Pixie Trick: Yep, seems like people are scared of the subject I'm not sure if I'll draw a line here but, be careful not to make it too much of an environment illustration rather than an ID drawing.

Yeah, I was bit worried about it being too enviro-ish. I've started a different one anyway.

Yet another wip. Just a little detail 'cause the rest isn't much to look at yet.

Hello all, I'm new to this community and thought I'd post a quick introduction.
I'm a industrial designer and illustrator who has been working in the toy industry for several years and recently have begun working towards a career shift in the direction of the entertainment design industry. I'm going to make an effort to try and find time to participate in CA's weekly activities as frequently as possible and I look forward to getting to know you guys and hopefully developing as an artist.

Anyway, I just read how Yoitisi said to try not to make it too much of an environmental rendering (i did this sketch before reading that) and figured since rule two states a background is optional but not required it was alright. Also, the design on the bathtub itself relys heavily on the environment in this case, as the natural waterfalls flowing down the mountain are what provide the "faucets" so to say.

Its the bathtub of Sun Wukong, the famous Monkey King from the ancient Chinese tale Journey to the West. Its built on a mountain side and uses the natural water falls to fill the tub.

Any feed back is greatly appreciated, cheers.

    Wink

    Hey all,

Pixie Trick, prefer the second one with a swan tap on it.

Yeti Ball, that is a huge bathtub. Very interesting theme.

Truepinkas, awesome idea.. I would like to do a steampunk too if I have some more time.

Here is mine, Victoria era is always a good theme for fantasy.. I think. To add some romantic atmosphere this king’s bathtub is actually connected with a hot air balloon. The king can enjoy the moment in bath and sunset at the same time.. (considering he is soo busy, time management.. )

Sorry for running a bit late with putting the Finals thread up, had a busy week again. There's still about a day to go on this round though, so make sure you've posted your finals in there before I close it:

Pixie Trick: Watch those hard bathtub corners - one could really hurt themselves badly on those! Ouch! ; p

designfox: Those are some serious drawing skills, man! Very beautiful style.

Yeti Ball: Is that traditional ink wash I see? You piece gives us more than just the tub, but a whole setting - I can imagine using that tub is a privilege, as it comes with an entire shack on a mountain top! Nice!
