I was super super annoyed by all the gigantic pictures in here so I'm going through and resizing things. My sb should hopefully be a little more cohesive and less painful on the eyes soon! Here is a dump of my resized old studies and stuff, hopefully still in order.

I promise I won't do this again, a ha ha. Maybe I have OCD?

Hi welcome ! Nice sketches. Just want to point out that on your second drawing, the right eye is much to high ! It should be lower. I always draw a line where the eyes are suppose to be when i do portraits.
Also, the right ear seems to be to far behind, but im not sure about that one

I'm really glad I decided to do this... Scanning in my sketches and seeing them from a different perspective really helps me see the areas where I can improve... I didn't even see how much the bottle looks like it's leaning or melting! And I think the girl's shoulders are really narrow, but I like the values I got there. I'm off to browse some sketchbooks and draw some more now I think I'm going to work on some digital stuff now, woo~

I try to do lots of drawing from life but I also like the variety of stock images around the internet, it's just too fun to draw some of them



I'm adding more resized goodness to this post. I doubt anyone will ever see this, but am putting this little note here for my own purposes. (like when I inevitably read back through, this I'll know what the hell is going on. :p)

I suffered a bit of the ol' depression for awhile and didn't do a lot of drawing (or anything) for awhile... but I have compiled most of what I have done in the past 6 months or so to share. This is not including any sketches as my sketchbooks are all over the place and I don't have access to a scanner at the moment. Expect sketches to show up more often soon though! For now... here are my speedpaints, doodles, and whatever else was sitting in my hard drive starting from oldest to newest.

I like the girls in your images, they've got spirit and personality! Definitely see a nice style here.

In terms of drawing, I would say, draw more from life/photos to get the hang of drawing people. Loomis books are good for getting the proportions and stuff too. And just draw lots and lots Thanks for visiting my sketchbook by the way

I saw that you've made a study from posemaniacs, you should try doing the 30sec ones, they'll really improve your hand-to-mind coordination!

Thanks guys! I've been working on the loomis methods for heads this week and I think it's really helping a lot. I've always struggled with picturing things in 3-d even in life and studying planes is really helping. Still a long way to go though.
Here is some gesture work and a couple figure studies I did today. I know the gestures are a hot mess but I don't like to break my 'groove' to start a new canvas...
Sometimes I feel like I take a two steps forward and three steps back, so I'm really trying hard to push myself and not be lazy. I am going to start a 100 heads project working with the loomis method and then maybe 100 figures as well. Then someday work my way back to perspective, composition and environments (hopefully before 2012.. -_-)

hand studies and random crap from the past few weeks. i've been working on loomis and boy does it make a difference. he's certainly right that sound knowledge beats a "knack" for drawing something. i have so many little drawings on random scraps of paper that will never see the light of day. this post consists of some of my head studies, and the manga type stuff is just me testing myself to see how my loomis studies are affecting my ability to draw without references. i am pretty happy with the progress i've made so far.

also, i've been using sai lately instead of open canvas - it's dreamy!

I've been working from photos a lot lately so here is some work from life, featuring my lovely mouse during just one of it's LED color rotations. hooray for rainbow led targus mice!

Hey thisby, thanks for commenting on my sb! I'm glad to see you're studying the construction of the human figure - that foundation will really improve your figurative work overall in the long run. I would suggest that you focus a little on improving your proportions; you have a tendency to emphasize the head and the length of the legs, leaving you with a wide, shortened torso and a cartoonish stance. If you can train yourself to sketch out the figure accurately from the beginning, you'll save a lot of time otherwise spent locating and correcting these kinds of mistakes when you get into the painting stage. Those hand studies are looking very nice! Just make sure you're thinking about the forms in 3-dimensions rather than just copying the lines and shapes that you see. Try doing some of these studies without the reference to see how much of the information you've retained after the drawing is done. Then pull the reference out again and compare to determine which areas or poses you still need to work on. Good luck and keep up the good work!

Good variation of different studies here! Seems like you do the serious learning stuff together with the fun part. That's good =)
I think you go more into anatomy and start learning more details about muscles. You can do some gesture drawings already, so go the way on and into the depth of the human body. You will be surprised which details you will learn to see in photos and on the real human photo.

some figure and gesture studies....
so many times i sit down and imagine myself churning these out one after another, but i get through three and then get discouraged. i know practice is the only key to my success so i am not giving up, i just wish i had more focus sometimes (all the time...-_-)!
my biggest problems with gestures and figure drawing is i always end up starting my drawings too big and i run out of canvas space or paper which distracts me. i'm trying to start with little boxes and envision the figure inside of that box, which is definitely helping so far. any advice or criticism is always happily taken! i want to get better, so badly.

getting my wisdom teeth out monday so there may be a week or so where i am not submitting. i'll try to keep a sketchbook around so i can draw a little. maybe i'll have a pain-pill induced stroke of genius! or not...
