Just a few quick notes on this round:

I'm glad to see the amount of entries is picking up in IDW! I haven't been very strict on the quality control in the polls lately, and I don't want to be too tight with this anyway but I would like to issue a few warnings, or suggestions rather.

Ragnj: Considering you're the first one to post your final in here, I would consider spending a little more time on rendering it out next time. Also, it read much more like a creature than a mechanical construct to me at the moment (if you spend some more time on conveying details and design clues you could solve that easily).

FourTonMantis: Same as Ragnj, you might want to spend a little more time on your entry. Adding details would've helped giving your design scale and believability I think.

Chirp Chirp: Be careful not to lean on the 3D model too much

Thanks for the crits. I pretty much considered this a fail. At least I learned something.

Thanks for the crit yoitisi, I think its more my lack of digital painting skills then time put in thats showing. I also tried to give it some sort of an alien feel and look hence the not so mechanical approach.

The lack of shape suggesting shadows etc was an attempt to show the extreme depth its on, usually when pictures are taken on objects at deep sea they look rather flat since the only light hitting them is that from the camera, guess it showed hmm, not as good as I wanted it too.

I voted silikone, really nice design, rendering and an overall nice picture to look at, very true to the challenge.

thanks for the compliments ragnj. keep at it! your rendering skills can only improve.

i voted artiphats. i like the way the form above water is very clean and organic, like a carapace, and all the research biz is tucked below where it will be most effective.

    great topic - thanks yoitisi

@SilliKONe man great design. Futuristic yet clearly human technology, and it doesn't even seem so far in the future. The style reminds me of book illustrations I saw as a child. Grate work!
