Teapo - haha, yeah I can really feel those steps too. I'm a very lucky individual to have the chance to learn and be supported by others.
kostas - thanks buddy, glad you approve! Hopefully this learning curve will stay steep, and one day you'll see me up there with the alpenpfleger's and others (plenty of others!)

"We make our own fortunes and we call them fate" - Benjamin Disraeli
Hey Tom, this portrait of your Mum looks great. I obviously can't comment on the likeness but the rendering and line work look really good. All those fun form studies you are doing are paying off! My approach has been far more traditional studying from the casts but you are obviously learning and gaining a lot of skills. Despite your heavy workload are you enjoying your TAD studies and is it all you thought it would be? I really appreciate you finding the time to post especially as you have so much uploading to do for TAD.
I am so excited to think what is to come, and I will have to try to work even harder myself to try to catch you!![]()
Great still life!
n1frit - cheers!
Marian - still trying to squeeeeeze that time in to post yeah. I always will! I'm loving TAD and although there are always going to be ways to improve your education, it is far better than I imagined it would be! To be honest I naively thought TAD would be about learning and consolidating fundamentals. It is... but it's much more than that. Its about image making and design. The fundamentals are something they just assume you will develop over time (rightly). As proof of that, I feel like last term I pretty much "conquered" perspective. As in.. it doesn't give me too many problems these days and I can understand it to the level where I am satisfied it won't trouble me. This term for me is about Light and Form. On that note, here are some more studies.
I've been working hard, and I can see definite improvements in almost every area of my image making. Good job TAD, you're living up to my expectations!

Drawing skulls from imagination is hard! Well worth learning though if you ever want to learn portraiture from observation or imagination. Or characters.. or to work in any visual art-based industry.... or just for fun! It's all good!
Looking at these is interesting for me. Some of my "construction" drawings are starting to have more form than my older observational drawings where I had the reference right in front of me. Very motivating to see! Oh and thanks if you're one of the many who has just added me on facebook. I logged on the other day to 200+ "friend requests" and hundreds of people had seen some of my art online. Very grateful to facebook's existence for that, and thanks everyone else. Onwards to page 100!

Wow I really like those lighting studies. I really have to do more of those and really get to grips with lighting. Did you find these studies quite useful and did you use any lighting references for them? Keep up the good work.
Always looking for feedback, so feel free to stop by any of these, cheers.

Your progress from page 1 is really inspiring! I will browse this thread through to find some ideas for exerciseAnd in the light of your previous post, do you suggest focusing on linedrawing before approaching painting?
Keep it up!

My sketchbook - Please, help me growCritique very appreciated
jakubvavrik - Thanks, and YES definitely. Painting IS drawing, but with more elements to think about. You wouldn't start learning the piano by attempting grade 3-4 pieces, you'd start at grade 1. By that logic I strongly suggest to anyone reading this that if you have the motivation to learn as fast as possible, stick to drawing for a good while. Hope that helps.
Some more design and composition work. Slowly getting there.... in Ink

Axelga - Yeah Toppi Inspired. But also generally doing a lot of composing and image making at TAD. Constantly thinking about composition now.
NickyBeats - Thanks man! You're not doing too badly yourself! Gotta keep grinding to page 100
Some digital still life's. I prefer traditional media in terms of paint quality, but digital is great for composing and planning things like colour and big shapes: (sadly I'm not as competent with oils as with Photoshop, but that will change I'm sure!

Hey Tom I am so glad to hear that TAD is all you hoped it would be and more. I still hope I might get to do a class or two one day. These updates look great. The lighting studies are beyond my understanding of light so they are great to see. I doubt it will be long before you are doing more traditional studies and I am excited to see what comes next. I would so like to ask you a million questions about it all. Thanks for finding the time to still post.![]()

Hey Tom, absolutely yes to meeting up in London to go sketching. I always really liked your pen and ink architectural studies you sketched in Cambridge so it would be great to see how you go about them. Just let me know when you return from your travels, it will be really cool to meet up.![]()
Nice work fella
