    TAD RVA Open House!

    TAD RVA

    What: OPEN HOUSE
    When: Saturday, March 27, 2010
    9am- 5pm

Where: The future site of TAD RVA, The Art Department's Richmond, VA based POD.
Who: Potential and Future TAD students.
In attendance: Sterling Hundley (Director, TAD RVA), Josh George (TAD RVA, Studio Lead), and Jeff Love (TAD RVA, Resident Assistant)

    Rocketts Landing
    210 Rocketts Way
    Suite 120
Henrico County, Virginia 23231 (Just East of Tobacco Row in Downtown Richmond)

TAD RVA will be holding an OPEN HOUSE in our future TAD RVA location on Saturday, March 27th from 9am- 5pm. TAD RVA's OPEN HOUSE is being held as a forum for future and potential students to ask TAD RVA specific questions, as well as to offer insight into future TAD programs at large. The TAD RVA location is under construction, but the OPEN HOUSE should give future students a better understanding of TAD, TAD RVA's connection to the city of Richmond, our Faculty and Curriculum, and the Region as a whole.

Sterling Hundley, Director of TAD RVA, Josh George, TAD RVA's Studio Lead, and Jeff Love, TAD RVA's Resident Assistant, will be in attendance to answer your questions.

Sterling and Josh will be doing live painting and drawing demonstrations from 11am until 4pm during the OPEN HOUSE.

Please come to meet us, we have amazing things in store for our future students!

For questions regarding the TAD RVA OPEN HOUSE, or the TAD RVA POD, please contact Sterling Hundley directly at: [email protected]

Sterling, Josh, and I did some cleaning and prep work for the TAD RVA Open House today. It's always exciting and energizing to be in the space - we hope you can make it out this Saturday!

The space looks incredible now, especially those clean windows, but wait till the concrete floors are polished and the place is filled with artists making art.

The students attending the Pods will have their own studio space and 24 hour access to the Pods. The Pods will have proper lighting, wireless and print capabilities. Each student will have a drawing table, chair and taboret They will also have optional equipment such as drawing horses and easels to work in different mediums.

We do not want anyone working outside of the studio, true immersion is what we are after. These threads were started to introduce the Pods, faculty and students. I hope they will also introduce the students to other students and help facilitate apartment and roommate searches.

There is plenty of cheap living space in Richmond and the whole city is convenient to everything. It takes me 10 minutes by car to reach most of the city end to end and 20 minutes by bike. Most of the city is flat and easy to manage on a bike (except Church Hill which has a bear of hill, that is why it has a Hill in its name). But along the James River there are bike trails which can go around the dense urban parts and it is beautiful. Skyscrapers on one side, white water rapids on the other and Civil War ruins in between.

Sterling and I spent part of the day setting up the space for the Open House tomorrow. We will have two digital projectors running video and slide shows in addition to Sterling and Josh's painting demos.

I hope to see some of you there!

Hey guys I just want to check that google maps are giving me the right directions, is this the correct location for tomorrow's events? The satalite photos look kind of old so it's hard to tell.

    http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&sa...01206&t=h&z=20

I'd hate to miss the fun just because I got lost

Oh yeah, what is parking like down there? I drive an old Volvo wagon that is long enough to make finding a spot in tight conditions... interesting.

    Chance,

That is the place. The photos look like they were taken during construction of the main buildings, but the overall idea is there. If you go up (west) from where it marks the location you will see Orleans Street. The parking area that is in-between Orleans Street and the building will probably be the most convenient place to park.

    See you tomorrow!

    Jeff

The Open House was today, and it was a great success - thank you very much to everyone who came out! Josh George did a fantastic painting demo, Robert Meganck did a great digital illustration demo, and Sterling Hundley followed that up with an ink and acrylic painting demo. In between all of that we met some great prospective students and local artists, talked about The Art Department, and drank a lot of coffee. It was really exciting to start making some art in the space, and see people getting excited about the education that TAD will be offering.

What a great morning! It was fun meeting everyone and learning more about the pod. I'm sold. Now it's time to start figuring out the logistics, but as they say, "where there is an obsessive compulsive art student, there is a way"

I've got to look over the video I shot, Jeff, but if there is anything salvageable from my tiny camera I'll l send you a link when I upload it at school this week.
