Some more studies
My Sketchbook ---> http://conceptart.org/forums/showthr...42#post3225942
I drew something for the CHOW gunslinger alchemist.
Don't think that i am taking part anyway, just found the topic challenging.
And i think i overdid it a bit, searching for an original idea..

Tried to be more confident with the values..

I liked your studies, they had a style going with them.
Watch proportions with your most recent drawing.
Another take on CHOW gunslinger alchemist...

Haha! I think I will raise a jug of GROOOOG for your skechbook. Anyhow i like your characters and the way you use color...and that Guybrush was brilliant on page 6!
Thanks man.
Did some painting on a female pose.
Crits are more than welcome!

Hi man , good that you post constantly. Just don't stop and draw.
About your question: i think is really good to find balance between painting with strokes and flat color. Combining two ways of painting creates contrast and can make piece more entertainig.
Next thing- it's good to use big brushes whenever you can(instead of thousands of small ones) to simplify forms and reduce your hand movement(especially when you draw a lot and your hand starts to hurt)
hope i answered your question
keep it up man![]()
Witek thanks, indeed the hands are starting to feel pain...
Crappy studyyyyy

Hey there! You are doing great with your studies. Keep doing them! About the girl. I think the hair doesn't look quite right. You should make a hair brush for depicting hair instead of using a very small brush size and painting each hair one by one. Look around for photoshop brushes. I'd also be careful with the composition. The bright window on the right is distracting to the viewer. The eye is always attracted to the points of higher contrast.
Keep rocking!![]()
Thanks man!
About the hair, they really are with a brush, except two or three spots where i did with quick little lines.
Thanks for your time man!

The thing that bothers me the most about the woman's face in Mrgn is that her nose, forehead and cheekbones are all kind of taking up the same space in terms of depth. That is, her cheekbones, being further away from us (and presumably the lightsource here) should be a touch darker than her nose and forehead.
Always check with you reference though. I'm drawing that off of a rule of thumb. SO!
I do like a lot of things about that though and it is pretty nicely drawn. Keep it up!![]()
Thanks for viewing my sketchbook, i really like your quick sketches the quick and clean brush strokes. Looks like your finding it hard to colour aswell, il link you to a colour tutorial i found really useful down below. Good luck.

HI there thanks for the comment on my SB.
Looking through your recent pages you seem to be improving alot, which is great. I do think that you should still be keeping up with the anatomy studies if you aren't still doing them. It's very easy to get to a point where you think you are good with it so you stop and just go mad with the paintings then you get to a point where you realise your anatomy knowledge isn't as good as you thought. Which is what happened to me.
So i suggest going back and doing your anatomy studies, perhaps in pencil or pen, a mix of the muscle structures for loomis / bidgeman and also full body gestures - to keep your proportions and poses on track. I also suggest more photo studies, both in black & white and colour - without the use of the eye dropper this will help you to become much more confident with values and colours but also more confident with painting different texture types aswell as building up a visual library for you to work from whilst not using reference.
Hope this helps, keep it up!
Hi knut. I think your Mrgn piece is quite good, but to me it seems like the beginning of something, not the end. I feel if you took a bit more time you could really make this piece a lot stronger. I find the background especially to be distracting and also the features of Mrgn's face could be softened a bit.
love the marks your are getting out of that chalk brush. nice studies keep em commin!
The values on the last update is looking ace. However, I have to say, there isn't much to the image, so I can't really tell if you're improving.
The one before that, the one you called 'crappy', actually looks quite good to me. The structures and values have been captured very well, I think.
Guys thank you very much for your time!
You are really helping me improve, i always keep your words in mind.
cause i have no time right now, i will respond to each one of you on the next post!
Here's some quick character design i did today.

So i found some time to post replies.
lemming-clone- maybe you are right about the levels of depth. I will leep that in mind thanks man
lukiza and andres333's thanks. I can totally make some use of those and yes, i find it hard to use colours due to my daltonism.
glaudarien thanks for your time. I rarely do anatomy studies in a strict line. I focus more on the form and planes now, but you are right. I tend to use referenses if i want to make a specific bodytype or smthing though. Maybe i am a bit lazy too..
Sycra you are right about the background but the photo referense was like that... I know it's a bad referense but i just wanted to do it.
dlincoln83's thanks man
Vritra thanks man but i still find them crappy though.. I think i have to improve on edges and more confident lines using thick brushes on phtshop.
kingkostas thanks re trela. The truth is that i am keeping it loose cause i am lazy and i want to make many different things at the same time! I try to learn from those "studies" though.
julianR thanks man, i will.
So, some more of those little post-it drawings.. I try to improve on illustration type of drawing having in mind every time (ok not every time..) a theme or smthing.
