Hey man, thanx so much for the kind words in my book mate.

Hogarth - looks very interesting. Don;t have one of his books yet but I'm planning on buying the 2-book package thing from amazon which coincidentally costs the same as each individually.

The studies are great, very believable and a great sense of form. May want to work on your line some - Laim.c suggested a method to me where you put your pencil/pen down and start drawing, but you don't pick it up. Not picking it up means you tend to think more about it - try it out maybe.

Overall really like what I see, so I'm returning the favour.
    ciao dude!

Wonderful man, looking great. Glad you found the exercise interesting and helpful, and Ill have to second that recommendation.

The books in the double package are the same you have - very reassuring to get more positive comments on them, looking forward to them. Of course, living in the world's armpit means I'll have to wait some time...

These are looking great, line looks lovely - great improvement. Really got me in the mood to rehash on some anatomy mate!

    ciao!

Good studies! Check out Loomis and Bridgman for studying from as well... Just Hogarth has a tendency to become very bubbley

About your question... yeah... learning to backflip on your own is very possible... I haven't had anyone to spot me for learning any of my flips... just go about it carefully! Find someone that can tell you how... live... and maybe show you... If you see a traceur or bboy or whatever on the street, try and talk to that person and see if they want to let you know a couple of tips... Since I've learnt on my own, I'm not too sure about the mechanics of it... I just kinda jump and do the summersault... ya know

you've got some nice stuff in here, but my crit is actually about your sketchbook thumbnail: i saw it and thought "shit, this guy looks awesome! I'll have a look at that!" and then when i came in it was like "oh... okay."
by having that as your thumbnail you are just setting yourself up for people to be dissapointed when they actually see your work- which is of a good standard, but if you are expecting something else...

    ::EDIT::
i just read my post and it comes across as really pissy! i didn't mean it like that, just wanted to give you a heads up.

Nice attack on the anatomy studies madcat, keep working on your anatomy skills along with stuff from your imagination, it will only help the two worlds intigrate with one another. Wonderful strong lines my friend, keep it coming. Also try to mix up the anatomy studies from other artist like mentler, he has some really awesome antomy drawings to learn from, Bridgeman is another good one. Keep it up.

There is something very...appealing about your anime. I wish that it would mirror your anatomy studies though. Try applying some of the stuff you learned form the studies in your anime. I agree with Darktwin, to study Mentler. He shows little secrets that are wonderful and make drawings more realistic.

Good drawings. I like the hatchingwork on the enviroments, but not too sure about them when used on the figures though. Keep at the fundamentals, theyre looking good. I think some of your lines can be cleaner too (but im not one to say that:p).

It's so good that you keep working on your anatomy. I find Hogarth is quite stylized, so it's hard for me to want to draw his stuff, even though I have both his books. But I guess others have already told you to try other people, so I won't repeat that . I really like your crosshatched work, particularly the landscapes, they've got a nice quality to them. Just keep drawing!

miguelslo thanks, i take good care of them and soon enough i should think man.

Darktwin i will, i'm actually having probs with imagination at the mo.. damnit.

Nyx702 thanks, well its hyung tae kims anime actually haha. i'll keep working on my anatomy, see if i can mirror it and watnot.

'stoph. haha, I had a crit saying i should forget rendering and sticks to lines so i know wats going on underneath, but i guess i could give it a try, for you

Bendragon still experimenting with shading techniques and stuff, as for the messy lines, its because i'm trying out a '1 line picture' technique, quite fun really. thanks man.

spiffiness I guess he does make things kinda.. big haha, but its easy to see and understand where everything goes, but nothing wrong with mixing the masters hu. Glad your liking my crosshatching, thanks alot.

    ATTENTION
I'm feeling kinda pissed and down at the moment because i've just started working on a tattoo my brother may get on his leg if its good enough, so I've been drawing away and yet again this nasty little cartoonish style keeps popping out and making my work look babyish, and on top of that, my imagination seems to have pissed off on holiday. What i wanna know is this because I haven't studied enough, and the right things that things are going like this? This style I have that keeps coming round is kinda stylized and sometimes cartoonish and works its way into things i don't want it too.
How long does it take to pound that understanding of watever your studying ie anatomy, machines etc, into your head? I can see progress in my works, but alot of the time when i'm not studying, i seem to forget everything and fall victim to the style.. how do i solve this and get rid of this damn style?

has anyone else had this problem? help would be great guys, I wanna get this over with!

Hey, great work here from page one! Great studies as well. As to your question above: I've always had an anime style (specifically my faces) before joining this community. I started to do more life ref studies and such. I'm thinking the reason is that you've been working with this style for so long that you're very comfortable with it. When you're doing your studies you are focused on that aspect. But when it comes to creating something that is your own you fall back onto something thats familiar. I do the same thing. My no referenced works are completely different from my studies.

Hey, thanks man, though the cartoonish style i'm refering to isn't anime, in fact i'd love to be able to have that as my style, well drawn anime or manga compared to wat it actually is. though i guess wat your saying also connects too to any style that i may be refering too.

Hi Madcat, you have some nice things going on here and there. You should try and get the basic fundamentals down of figure drawing and anatomy, which I see you are doing with the Hogarth studies, before going the anime route. I like anime and I'm not saying it's a bad thing and there's alot of brilliant work out there done in that anime/manga style. But I just think that you should be you when you draw before trying to be something else. Your work will show more honesty.

Hey mad one. Love the little creations you are doing, keep at it, it must be forever fun you know
Try to keep away from the cartoony, or else you'll just get stuck in it, draw from life instead, make you own shortcuts, cuz that's just what catroons are.
Good to see that you're doing anatomy studies, it'll pay of, I promise. Every time you draw something, a bit of it will get stuck in your head. And then you'll remember stuff from your sub-conciousness.
A think that'll help you when doing studies is to know proportions, then the arms will get the right lenght and the overall size will look good.
Another thing, I read that you have problem with your imagination. A great tip is to doodle, put the papers with the doodle away, then look at it from time to time. then make something out of it, draw a character or an environment from it. And with doodle I mean abstract-shapes. Just keep at it. And good luck.

    Hugs!

hey.The anatomy is getting pretty good, but don't worry about making it look clean.Anatomy studies are supposed to to show us and yourself how much you know about how the human body works, so show how you build the human figure, not how clean your lines are.Its very important to get the proportions and the shapes right first.About those manga head studies, i respect that artist, but i actually think they are useless. The head studies you should really concentrate on are the ones that focus on basic contrusction, planes and the sort.
But overall, you're doing good.Make sure you keep this updates tho, his still is a small SB.Keep it updated, whatever your grandma says

    ciao

    sabe2003 hey thanks alot man

_^SlayeR^_ I'll post up some of the style tomorrow, I think you may be onto something with the renders haha i'll get it a try.

Ostrander hey man, yea I reliese its important now to understand wats wat, I love anime but i also love serious style, like Wes or marko, if i could draw one thing like them it would be noses haha, though i do love manga I yearn to be able to render like the masters.

Pencilator Hey Mr hugs! Thanks for all the help and stuff, i'll bare it all in mind, and if it doesn't work, i'm sueing you! haha, I picked up somewhere drawing anatomy from your mind to see how much you remember is a good way to get better too. thanks!

TheGnoll Thanks for dropping by. I totally know wat your getting at with the anime heads, i think it was more of a tribute of sorts or something haha. I'll keep it as updated as possible man!

Sorry no pictures today or for a while since i've been kinda busy and haven't had much time for drawing, but will update tomoz, promise guys!

BTW can anyone recommand any good bone and muscle sites? I've been studying hogarths stuff, and i've been meaning to study mentler too, but i find his stuff very chaotic as awesome as it is, is there something wrong with me? Also can we stick to sites for the mo since i'm love on funds sadly. thanks alot peoples!

Good progress here - keep working on the anatomy - it's paying off.
I recommend Bridgman a bit more, just because he focuses more on how everything works together, instead of breaking it down into seperate pieces. Just an opinion
    Keep it up!

Thanks for the recommandation, I'll be sure to try find some of his stuff, if it helps i'm happy to use it!

Update now: Gunna post two pages of the stupid cartoon style I was on about, any help would be great.

A few other pics of some studies and more fun simple anime creature things i love doing and would rather have as my style instead of the shitty cartoons.
