Recently I've been doing studies of paintings by old masters where I try painting characters into the scenes. I've found this to be incredibly beneficial, as I learned a great deal about how I could have better tonal ranges.

I also decided to slap some clothes on a Schiele, in sort of a concept art/art study exercise. I figured I'd make him a badass futuristic biker.

Nice work so far. Try to push your values further (for example, much lighter values for the background in contrast to the foreground to help your figures 'pop'). Keep at it!

Here's some more IPod drawrings. I did these over the weekend while hiking.

The app is Sketchbook Mobile Pro and I highly recommend it! I find it a great change of pace from what I'm able to do on Illustrator & Photoshop. In fact it rather helps with my painting because I'm forced to not rely on the smudge/burn/lighten tools.

As always, crits/comments/non-sequiturs welcome!
