hello, why dont you try different shading methods, instead of lines you could try to block the values and work in layers towards the darkest tones, from light grey to black, you could use some smudging too, its easy and gives interesting results. just try things , there are so many things you can do when drawing. keep it up!

somehow sick stuff dude, I think its really important for you to attend some lifedrawing sessions, to see and exp your favourite subject in real 3d life, rather than from photos.

it's also important that you take time with your studies, to get all the overlapping lines and proportions right. spend an hour minimum on a figure till you get it right.

    cheerio,

    -antonio

This sketchbook is very... wild. No big critiques... keep practicing! Also I agree with the guy who was recommending trying different materials. Soft charcoal, inkwash, etc, are all good.

First I tried to draw without a reference (left picture). But I realized the missing body concepts and searched some fitting arm and leg position reference photos. With these photos I changed it (right picture). I think I'll have to draw hundreds of human bodies to get into the "from mind"-stadium which allows to draw the body without reference photos. Can't wait.

Keep updating, man. But remember, it is not just the levels, or the shading, or the hatching. The line drawing is important, too. Please take your time getting the lines right.

Hope my feedback helps. It was a pleasure looking through.

really liking the amount of work you are posting. keep pushing it!!
just one thing that you really need to keep in mind:
as far as I see it you're putting some big effort into gettin those lines nice and clean, but keep in mind that that's not what will make your drawings look good.
Structure (anatomy, 3Dimensional shapes interlocking into each other, rhythm etc) is just SOOOOO much more important than having clean lines. I feel I wasted so much time, gettin my lines clean myself, especially because people always told me "get your lines clean" but honestly, there is so much more important stuff to learn where you definitely WILL mess up a lot of lines when trying to work on that it, but when you get the structure right, gettin those lines right is just a matter of days. seriously!

Vritra: Thanks! I'll go on drawing. I think "getting it right" was for me slow line drawing (like the crab above). But it has to be to look close to the the reference, not to draw slow.

    Gloominati:
Thanks for visiting my sketchbook! I think I see what you mean. When I saw Lukias' fast scribble style, I tried to draw my presteps as "unclean and fast" as possible and "overdrew" the wrong lines with darker lines. That was the picture of the Roman. I also started the following Russian girl this way and erased the wrong lines after overdrawing with the darker clean ones. I also realized that every of the 5-10 minute-drawings (when I have to start fast and speed up) contains often "right positioned lines" even if I think drawing faster would contain more mistakes. But as every habit: it is hard to remove the "slow clean line trial" and change to "fast, maybe chaos scribbling".

Yeah, you're right, you should take your time and really look at the things you're studying. I don't remember the exact quote, but Jason Manley said something like - When you're studying, you should really take your time for anything that you find new. Speed will come later, with practice. Getting your work as close to the object you're observing is the primary objective.

    1st next 2 ca.org-members
    2nd some sketching
3rd I tried to draw a figure with legs of a horse or a cow, but I recognized that the figure would fall over backwards if I used the other two legs. It's impossible to stand stable for a figure if you use only the other two legs. I think it's an often drawn mistake to draw the other two legs of an e.g. horse only until the kneecap. There's a part missing which is above the knee of the animal and which is connected to the pelvis of the horse. But even if this leg-part above would be not forgotten, it wouldn't be possible to stand stable for a figure which contains the human body above the pelvis.

Feel free to correct me, if I got it wrong. I am very interested in anatomy functions of "invented" crossover figures like centaurs or creatures like the one here (skeleton, muscles).

You seem to be working very intensive with the traditional media, very good. However the anatomy of your heads are often a bit distorted. Try doing some focused loomies/bridgeman studies.

    P: Thanks!

Fumble: Thank you! I have to finish the 100 5-minute-female-figures and the 100 5-minute-female-heads/faces first (40 done, 60 left). I thought about doing another 100 male figures and 100 male heads after that, maybe (if there's some discipline left )

The drawing wasn't flowing yesterday and I did only this little Alfa Romeo Autopilot. Today another female figure. Many mistakes, but it was fun to draw again today.

From my point of view it looks like you are going backwards. The outlines on the first page were more anatomically correct than the stuff on this page...

I think you should really start breaking things up into basic shapes and work from there, especially on the faces, many of your portraits have perspective issues.

Also the shading needs some work, maybe you could just indicate the shadows with shapes instead of hatching those lines for now, and work on the shading apart from the figure drawings.

    Anyway, keep going!

Cranberry: Thanks! Do you mean a "shadow outline" of a shadow-area instead of the hatching with lines? Could you post or link a drawing which shows it the way, you meant?
