    updates o.o!

    @shadow studies

    - shadows have nearly the same value as the "darkest side" of the object.

    - and the shadows get softer as they move away ( but i think you know that )

    remember that!

    Hey Diarum,

As always, thank ye fer the drop-by!

Heh! Like the work on the morning-wood-pole-guy.

And, the concentric rings/cross contour studies will serve you well!

Get yourself a copy of "The Human Figure" by Vanderpoel! It'll teach you a lot at this stage! [Just check it out from the library. . .]

'cause-- you should have a stack of library books up to your knee checked out, at this point, if'n yer serious!

Heighten the contrast on those eggs - really darken the darks. Otherwise, nice overall. Keep studying anatomy and continue those value studies!

Nice work with your drawings. Your lines have improved and so as your quality. On tip I have for you.

Try working on learning to see contrast and highlights in your drawings. All of them have a lightest and darkest shade. Think of the different shades of dark and light as abstract shapes and it will help quite a bit. Keep it up!

You might want to draw out areas of light and shadow, can help you see tone gradients much better *referring to your egg drawings* Integrate that with your anatomy and figure drawings too. =)

Haven't been here for a while, good to see you're still going strong! Keep going.

first and last are a bit stiff, but theyre ok. second one doesnt make sense at all- dont really understand where the pelvis and legs are pointed/how theire angled it just looks a bit obscure, have you perhaps considered using skeleton-dummy for the base of gestures like this?

as for the third one, its a good example what a lot of your work lacks, while the proportions of the bodies seem all right (legs, torso, hands as long in relation to each other as supposed to) they lack the human movement, they look like stiff puppets or wooden artis mannequin, when drawing a pose, perhaps try it out yourself and look in the mirror to see how and where your limbs are, how the body is balanced, people dont really stand 100% straight and stiff like that.. its uncomfortable, dhe waist bends, hands and knees bend, it shows weight and makes the drawings look realistic,

heres a lil example i drew for another guy to illustrate the same thing (also the same pose it seems ^^)

just look around you and try to capture the weight and motion of figures.
hope this helped a bit, have fun with your studies!

    The hands are looking good!

as for the scanner, its the software not the hardware that sucks, if youre using scanners own program, try using windows fax and scan (should be on any windows computer, most likely located on control panel) if you are using windows soft get scanner's soft from the producer's website. if all fails, try to adjust the settings... reduce brightness or smth.

Hey Diarum its always nice to look at ur sb cause I have been here since u started. I see ur eye for poses and the human body construction is getting better and as well ur linework.

A tip for you - try to draw faces even in these faster sketches, i know you leave em out cause they are hard, I do that as well. But we need to practice on what we think is hard. So for your own good try to draw them faces aswell.

    Just keep ut up m8!

    hey Diarum,

I thought I would check out your sketchbook since you've helped me with mine.
Looking through it I see a lot of improvement since the beginning so keep it up.

As for hints, I would say try to draw as light as possible when you begin, and just keep trying until you get that perfect line, then u can draw it in harder and clean up the rest. A lot of my stuff sucks when I dont have the patience to start light and wait for the right marks.

Back for good... which means whatever time remains after freelancing and my life long weight loss mission :p

Beautiful arm constructions. For these pieces there's no need to be concerned with the shading; the form of the arms comes through beautifully. Less is more.. in this case. Don't neglect the light and shadows though. Are you scanning in colour or b/w?

    Hey Diarum!

About the scanner, that latest piece seems to have been scanned in black-white-only setting. Try to open the scanner software and change the setting to Grayscale, and it will fix all your problems.

Good stuff Diarum. Remember to try and go into practice sessions with a specific goal, asking what do you want to get out of this drawing? Take something memorable away every time (whether it be line weight, construction shapes, balance, proportion, accurate cross contours, etc.)!!! You may be doing this or have a better method anyway, but it's something that helps me a lot so I thought I'd pass it along. In my opinion, it's the fastest way to grow.

Good luck man, keep it up!
