Thanks for the response. I like the idea of basing characters on people that I know, and the things I am interested in. I come up with a blank so often when I am trying to create an interesting person.

BTW I love your female subjects, so much character, so much beauty beyond superficial prettyness, I wish I saw more women like this portrayed in media.

Killer Napkins- Thanks man Glad you like!
    n1frit- Haha Thanks dude!
ForScience- Awe thanks man I try! Females are so interesting, wish I could apply the same to males! Definitely try to do some character designs, I'd love to see them

    I went to the MFA today for the first time in a while, and booked it straight for the American arts wing, and sat in the Sargent room, and cried a lot, because his paintings are so beautiful and he is my favorite painter ever. And then I did a master study from one of his works, and a random greek funeral statue >;

glad i found your sketchbook viki oh, very niice piratey stuff on last page! to give you a crit, on your Sargent study I think you went into detail too soon on the face,Sargentwas a master of suggesting with collusions, or meeting points of big brushes. I remember a quote from him saying to model the head like an apple. Its still a mystery to me how he got into detail, one guy said the mouth ''bloomed'' out of the face as he worked and eyes were dropped in like a poached egg.

Wow, nice studies lately. I really love those commuter paintings, the fact that you're capturing both form and personality in such few, simple strokes is kind of crazy. Are those museum studies also on the iPad? They're great, I love the colours.

I really like your style in that no-ref sketch from the 23rd, though I think the feature placement is off for the tilt of the head - the underside of the nose/ ear placement indicate more of a tilt than the chin and eyes seem to.

I like your work more each time I come here - makes me want to keep pushing to keep up!

How do you find the ipad? I've been on the fence about buying one forever - but I always put it off waiting for something with good pressure sensitivity. I'm such a line-snob lol.

    Happy sketching!

Flaskpost- Hey thanks man, glad you like the designs!
llex_paul- Haha glad we share the emotion of their works lol, thanks man!
insane lemur- Thanks for the advice man, its really appreciated. Ill try to pay more attention to the overall form when I paint the face in the future!
Revidescent- Hey rev, glad you like Yes, the museum studies were on my ipad! Yeah thanks for pointing that out, I'll try to be more aware of proper facial features angles and alignments, I really appreciate the advice, gotta make mistakes to learn right?
ForScience- Haha thanks man, sargents work just has that effect. ;0; glad I am not the only one who openly gushes tears of joy!
Rhubix- awe thanks dude, ;u; I basically hated the ipad when I first got it cause i was using a regular stylus and getting pissed at everything cause of the 'learning curve' I was on the fence forever too but broke down, cause it's good for doing studies out in the world. But I got a stylus called the pogo connect, its the cheapest 'pressure sensitive' stylus right now. does it's job, it's not as good as my tablet and photoshop, and probably wont be for a while, but it's good enough for now that it's eliminated that annoying feeling you get from a regular stylus. no pressure. no cause and effect etc. basically like what we are all used.....ipad is not quite there yet to replace my sketchbook and drawing, not even photoshop can really replace pencil to paper or pen to paper for me. but it's really good if you want to improve digital painting-wise.

I have no idea how anybody can draw on an iPad, especially really solid looking stuff like this. I guess the pressure sensitive stylus makes a difference, but I'm really impressed all the same. Super Bowl Guy is wonderful, I love the sense of warmth and light you've captured here.

ForScience- Thanks man What apps do you use? Have you tried the procreate app? It's my favorite I also use a pressure sensitive stylus!
Overtoom- Thank youuu so much It was really hard at first to paint on one.
Revidescent- Thanks rev! Have you ever seen robb ruppels work? He is like ipad painting god of awesome. He sometimes posts stuff on his blog, and he was making that stuff WAYYYYY before they had pressure sensitive styli, but yes it does make a difference, I almost threw the ipad out the window, it was pretty aggravating. It's like trying to paint in ms paint. It's like awkwardly trying to relearn how you've been 'naturally working'.... such a pain in the ass!
mundanity- hello there thanks so much you should totally try it ^_^!
kikindaface -hahah hellz yeah thanks man!

This was my excuse this morning to make something fun, no pressure!!! In photoshoppuuu!

Pencil sketches on the last page were beautiful, and I am in love with that portrait of that guy watching TV. The colors are so awesome. The lamp kills me. ;-; Great job painting white there. The funeral statue study is also really beautiful, great use of texture.

    So much I like here~~

It might be nice to see more highly finished pieces (get a range of finish!), but you're doing great already. :D I can see you pushing your comfort zone and that's awesome; something I need to try to do more of, too.
    Keep it up!

I like your colours, you seem to be doing pretty well on that front. I like that study with the lamp, above. Would be nice to see it more refined and polished.

JesseM- hey jesse, thanks so much glad you like the studies and sketches. That's a great idea, I really do need to start doing more finishes, I have some in the thumbnail stage right now, hopefully i can bring them to finish soon Lets keep pushing!!!
Umbravita- Thanks man! Glad you like the colors, I'll get more refined and polished the next time I do a study It's a little tricky on the ipad!
sony- haha thanks man Glad you like it, hope I can do more of these in the future!
Lyraina- Heyyy thanks so much! It was cool after a while cause you start to notice little colors after staring at your subject so long

Sketches from imagination in my sketchbook , I normally draw naked females over and over page after page so this is finally some kind of progress. And some new ipad studies from life drawing! The past 3 classes have been canceled thanks to 2 snow storms and spring break ;0; so sad! Regardless I'm loving these little studies because it's so cool to really see how light works on human skin :> 3-10 minute studies!

Some new stuff! 1st is a loose painting study/interpretation of a photo I took today of my neighbors backyard, 2nd is a quick speed concept of an interesting setting I wanted to paint I would like to tighten it up and finish it and also approach more things the way I approached these 2 tonight!

I love how your stuff is so loose, but still so tight and controlled - The line work in 202 is brilliant it reminds me of The Secret of Kells
