SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS and THE ART DEPT. SUBMISSIONS BEGIN NOW

Thanks to the Art Department, students can now begin their applications for scholarships from the 2,000,000 dollars being given to support the future of art education and talented students from around the world. Students may submit their portfolios to The Art Department: http://www.theartdepartment.org/info.shtml The Apply link is in the upper right. The Art education world is in the middle of a positive change it doesn't see coming and The Art Dept faculty are making it happen. Join us for art.

Students may apply by following the application and uploading their portfolios beginning now! SUBMISSION DEADLINES ARE MARCH 7th for the scholarships with all winners being chosen by March 15th. Two awards have already been made. We will announce more shortly.

Scholarship winners may be granted one of many scholarships which are either partial or for the full ride, 100 percent tuition covered.

The Art Department has early signup and registration discounts which are very significant. For those able, if you choose to apply and participate in the early registration discount and later receive a scholarship award you will be refunded that difference so that you do not miss out on the scholarship program.

Scholarships are available regardless of your country of origin or economic background. We seek to reward the most talented students with the opportunity to learn and those of merit and need shall have an opportunity to learn to create.

Select scholarship winners will be awarded a coveted seat in one of the four on site schools we're calling TAD PODs. Space is very limited.

The TAD Hybrid program is flexible and focused. All students enrolled in TAD are only required to attend the online courses, but are strongly encouraged to participate in the two TAD workshops, occurring twice a school year in June and January, to develop their education further.

    We are here to help.

Full scholarship award terms shall be posted soon, but the time to apply is now.

Excellent news. I am interested in hearing more about these "pods". Disappointing to hear that there are now only 2 workshops. I would love it if it eventually went back up to 3. Also i know this is probably impossible but it would be nice if there were a way to browse portfolios that have been submitted.

I'm not sure I'll be able to apply this year... I only have one more year of school to earn my degree, and I would have to get a scholarship if I wanted to afford TAD, otherwise there is no way, and I am not quite confident enough in my skills at this point. However next year after I graduate I will be making it my number 1 priority. I'll be working hard on my portfolio until then.

I need to really work on my portfolio now! Can you send any number of applications at any time? Or can you update your current application if with newer pictures?

Would it be possible to apply this year but choose next year for entry if you get admitted?

Would it be possible to start this next winter instead of the summer? Because I really think I should finish off school before I jump into this (probably going to go another semester this Fall) but I also don't want to wait a whole year either.

I ask because you described this as flexible, but I didn't know if this also applied to the starting date of the program as well.

Also, if I was to get a scholarship of some kind, could I possibly "hold onto it" for a year or would I have to reapply? I'm guessing the latter, but just checking.

    Thanks!

    Did I understand this right?

Only a few of the people who receive scholarships will be allowed to attend the pods? I would love to be able to attend the pods.

I am currently beefing up my portfolio. I can't until I finish Everything up!

how many free ride scholarships are being given out? it seems like it will be rare to get one, and that is the only way i can attend.

Hi Jason, I want to apply for the entertainment and art program, what if my actual portfolio it's more 3D than 2d, my story is that i'm better prepared as an digital sculptor, my 2d skills aren't the best though I keep my 2d sketchbook on hand, trying to study drawings, but i'm still not on track I think, That's why I want to take the entertainment and art program, I want to get better on concept and foundational concepts. What do you think?, thanks for your opinion.

Hey Jason...I'm graduating from an interior architecture school in May and consindering TAD as a grad school option. Hopefully that will allow me to get some govt. grants and loans and such. I live in Columbia, Missouri so if the KC option is still open It would work great! Is there a school in KC and if so what are the grad school options?...
I've always wanted to study art as you guys instruct it (i'm going through Discovery right now) and what you guys are doing sounds like the perfect plan for me since its opening right when I'm finishing school. Any help is appreciated!

    TAD in KC!

    Saurus-

The KC Pod is not full. The suggestion of taking TAD as a graduate school option will not work unless you mean replacing grad-school. The TAD program is not an accredited program, our focus is on creating practitioners and careers!

Feel free to contact me, I am overseeing the KC Pod:

    Kirsten-

Yes, you can start the TAD program in June or January!

The scholarship question is dependent on the availability of scholarships at the time of application. I will encourage you to apply as soon as you are capable.

Hope all is well and I would love to see you attend TAD!

    Numbers vary!

    Liffey-

The spaces for the Pods will vary in size and that will effect the number of students.

The Kansas City Pod will be able to except 25 students to start, Richmond and San Francisco are about the same! The spaces are currently being finished, I will post photos soon!

    Thanks,

    John

This may or may not be a dumb question but I need to ask it.

First off this all sounds awesome. I have graduated with my Bachelors in Media Arts & Animation and have been toying with the idea of getting my MFA here in Austin. Since graduating I have been looking for that elusive foot in the door opportunity. This definitely sounds like it could help. But, I would only stand a chance at this opportunity if I got a scholarship since I am already neck deep in student loans. So, my question is, if I were to apply and not get a scholarship could I back out since I know I wouldn't be able to afford it?

    Thanks.

Thanks! It would be great to see you again as well!
I'll probably be starting this coming January, if all goes according to plan and I do as well as I'm trying for, scholarship-wise.

So you're saying that the SlideRoom will be open at other times besides the time between now and the end of February? So someone submitting in the summer might have an equal shot at a full scholarship as someone submitting right now? (I ask because most of the things I did last semester were based more on quantity than quality, so I feel like, for a limited piece portfolio, that I could do better if I gave it another couple of months to do some higher quality work.)

I also have a question about the "coveted" pod seats. Do these mean that scholarship winners would be able to have year-round access to the studio spaces, while people who didn't get the top scholarships can only come during the select 3 week times and must leave to make way for the next batch of students?

Also, would these scholarship winners have to commit to a certain pod or would they be able to move around to different ones?

There has been a number of questions regarding the PODs, and the number of seats allotted to each one. The specific locations are being finalized, and we are securing open spaces that can accommodate a number of students. If there is the demand, we will simply lease more space and make room for more students. You will still want to wait to move to one of the four cities (Richmond, San Francisco, Austin, and Kansas City) until you have confirmed your acceptance into TAD, and you have verified your place in the POD.

    Hope this helps!

I have a question for Sterling Hundley. I've been accepted to VCU for Communication Arts for the fall of this year (2010). Would it be possible to do both the course at VCU fulltime and TAD at the same time. I was going to finish my BFA at VCU, already have an Associates degree, so I probably only have another 2 years left! I'm really into representational painting and illustration. I've recently taken off 2 years from my formal studies to do some travelling (Spain, Morroco, Germany, and Greece this coming May) and to study from some painters that I admire, like Burton Silverman and Donato Giancola. I believe TAD sounds like a great fit for my ongoing studies. I guess my question is, do you think the two programs would compliment each other or would you just focus on one program?
    Thanks,

    Roy

Sorry for bringing this question up again but I have to add to the question about starting in 2011. I also want to finish my current university, which ends in jan 2011, and apply for TAD afterwards. Since I'm from Europe and I don't know if I can afford the full program, I want to apply for the 18 months. What would be the best way to do so? Apply now for later or is there a second opportunity to apply when I can actually start next year?

I dont really understand whats starting in jan 2011, because if my little creative math is correct neither the 12 months doundations nor the 18 months major starts there. Hopefully you can fix my confusion

Onisan - When they say they are accepting students in January and June. I imagine that they have classes for you. If you start in January of 2011 and get accepted for the 18 month program, then you finish 18 months later. There are two ways that you can leave the school. Either you complete the required degree and length that you applied for (which could take longer if you did not succeed in mastering the material), or you drop out.

Don't worry yourself whether the 18 months or 12 months start their. The school is in their first semester and they are are working their asses off to get the school running.. for june. All your questions involve them setting a date for Spring admission. Patience young grasshopper. Also the Fall semester starts one week after we return from the 3 week workshop, I would imagine that Spring Semester starts 1 week after the January 3 week workshop. Payment setup is due 1 month ahead of the June workshop, so I would think that payment setup is due 1 month ahead of the January Workshop.

But what I'm still confused about is the application time for scholarships. I seem to remember being told somewhere here that, even if we wanted to attend in January, we should still apply for scholarships before the March 7th.

What I'm hoping is that there's some time to re-apply for January, giving me more time to get better work in my portfolio.

Also, if we get a scholarship we like, can we "hold on" to it for a year or two, or is there a limit where we have to either go to the school with or drop and reapply if we want to try for it again?
