Here is your chance to win a pass into DISCOVERY and VLP!

    Your assignment:

Those with the most pics of posters they hung get a free pass to the art dept 5 week overview and the VLP.

Please ask permission from the respective institutions when posting your flyers.

    How to win:

    1) Print out copies of the flyer image below (right click then click print picture-you may need to resize so it properly fits on the paper)
    2) Cut the dotted lines so that passers by can take the link home
    3) Hang the flyers at your local colleges, art schools, art stores, libraries etc.
    4) Take a photo of each flyer you post (this should show your flyer and a larger view of the area its posted in)

This is really incredible! Thank you, Jason, for this opportunity. I'm on this, too. Thankfully I'm off work today, so I'll see what I can do.
"Contrary to the belief of the layman, the essential of art is not to imitate nature, but under the guise of imitation to stir up excitement with pure plastic elements: measurements, directions, ornaments, lights, values, colors, substances, divided and organized according to the injunctions of natural laws. Made my first round last night! Many more posters will be put up today.

EDIT: Okay, big update time! Been making the night rounds at various points this week... the semester has just started and already my internal clock is all messed up!

    EDIT 2: New batch below!

EDIT 3: Another new batch towards the bottom!

Here's today's batch... had to endure a snow and ice storm today! The posters started to get a little wrinkled from the wind outside, but you can't really see it normally, the flash camera just brings it out.

Another batch! I wanted to put more outdoors but it's too wet and windy out today. That's okay though since I don't think anyone's trying to go outdoors this weekend if they don't have to.

Hey there! this is what I got done so far.

I got most of the major art schools, although two of them wouldn't allow me to put anything up as all fliers have to be approved by "Student Services" or some such. Of course, those people were gone for the weekend, so the guards took some fliers to be approved and I have to go back later in the week to see if they got put up and take pictures.

I also got all the art supply stores in Philly (except Pearl, as they just went out of business here...) and various other places artist types might be found. Anyway here they are:

    Anyway, I hope that helps!

I'm back to work tomorrow but hopefully I can find the time to do some more!

EDIT: So, thanks to my work schedule, I wasn't able to get up that much more. I got some in University of Pennsylvania, Community College of Philadelphia, and the Fleisher Art Memorial. I got some in the Free Library as well, but what a battle! I don't really what to talk about it, but I can't remember ever being so dismissed. They weren't interested even slightly in what I had to say when I tried to explain what it was. In the end, I got a couple in, though.

Also, I went back to the schools that said the fliers would be hung after approval by Student Services and I couldn't find them anywhere. When I inquired about it, no one seemed to know what I was talking about. Who knew I'd have trouble hanging fliers (about ART, no less) in Art Schools and libraries?

Anyway, I also got some up in places on South Street. Here they are:

In different places in my school...

The Art Department is made up of WIN!

Emergency? Head to the Art Department!

    Double trouble!

Both in the Mac room and in the PC room! We're building bridges here!

    In the local supermarket

In the local art supply store

EDIT: Here's some more! In the bookshop, some more super markets, the museum, the artsy café....

EDIT2: Some more. On telephone poles, trash bins, and in different schools in town!

EDIT: So, it turns out masking tape doesn't really stick that well in -20 degrees centigrade!! It was windy and it was snowy, but I soldiered on until my camera battery died from the cold.

day 1: places around austin: starbucks, hobby lobby, central market, telephone polls downtown, whole foods, sun harvest, book people, et cetera. a few of them were pending approval so i got the clerk holding it up before i left.

day2: austin community college northridge campus, UT campus, jerry's artorama, texadelphia, starbucks, telephone poles, street light poles...etc

day 3: acc rio grande and south austin campuses, library, street light poles, telephone poles, soco store sides etc. strangely enough some girl took a photo of me for the austin chronicle i think she said? she wanted my name before i left. maybe she'll mention DISCOVERY in her article? ;D

day 4: acc nrg and pinnacle campuses, hit the other half of soco. i enjoyed the rain even though it was hard to tape anything to poles, luckily there were random band posters up, on almost all of them, so i just stuck in on that.

day 5: acc riverside, 6th street

I put these up around my school in Houston.

Note: I have already paid for Discovery. Is there anyway that I can be reimbursed if I win? Even if that's not possible, I would love to have the subscription for VLP and you can give the free discovery to someone else.

its interesting...as i was making my way through all the art departments at UT for 2 hours, i remembered its reputation for shunning foundational skills in image making. yet those students pay hundreds of thousands of $ to 'get kudos?' while im running around like a bagman with a backpack full of paper supporting and promoting the very thing they mock. hopefully my time and energy will pay off.

ditto liffey , DISCOVERY starts february 1st, so im guessing the cut-off would be before then maybe? idk. oh, and jonbronx nice job! but i think its 1 photo for each flyer, i noticed there were sometimes 2 for each in your post, other than that keep on truckin.
Yea your right. I was taking the directions literally and thought that the "AND" was like a separate photo. Thanks though.

I hope this helps reach the masses to learn more about DISCOVERY and VLP!

Holy cow, what a response in here! I don't think I'll be able to compete with you guys, but I'll help spread the word! I walked all around campus here (Arizona State Univ.) putting up flyers wherever I could.
